Celebrity Jerks I Have Met

Danny Glover - I was in the Portland airport checking in when the lady at the counter station next to me got pissed because she couldn't buy her dog a seat (it looked like a beagle) because the flight was full. Glover mocked her from the line. While I was waiting at the gate, he sat down next to me. He said "excuse me" as he sat down and I said hello. Then the dog lady walked by and he said "I'm not sure whether she's the ***** or her dog is." I chuckled and told him I liked his movies. We made small talk for a but before boarding.

Hakeem Olujwan, Rodney McCray, Robert Reid, Ralph Sampson, Allen Leavell, John Lucas, etc. (the 1985-1986 Rockets) - a friend of ours was a gopher for the Rockets and I got to follow him around for a game. After the game, we went into the locker room. Hakeem was quiet but seemed friendly. McCray was in the shower and I wasn't going in there. Reid was super nice. I talked to him for a few minutes about (failing) basketball career. Sampson was aloof. I'd say he was a dick but I think he just didn't like attention. Leavell was pretty cool. He seemed pretty laidback. John Lucas seemed REALLY cocky. I didn't get a good impression.

When I was 13 my parents decided this was the best time to take me to Disney World...
Anyway, one night we are out eating at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando and there are three kids I recognize from tv being totally loud and obnoxious in a booth across from us. They were three of the Mickey Mouse Clubs finest: Britney, Justin and Kerri. Yea, I watched the show. Anyway, they were throwing food around and just being kids geneally. I didn't mind because all I could think was damn them girls are really cute. My mother, never one to like bad table manners, just kept rolling her eyes and wondering under her breath where their parents were. Justin actually threw an open mustard packet at Britney and got it all in her hair. I laughed. She was not amused.
It's kind of surreal thinking back to seeing them all in that booth together.
I don't have many brushes with the famous folk.

Sampson is an ***. i actually watched him stiff a 6 year old girl for an autograph at a record store. the little girl started to cry and he walked away.

I hate to hear that about John Cusack. I always figured he was probably a good guy.

I've met a few celebrities but none that were ********. Among some of the nicest:

B.B. King - Saw him at the DFW airport when I was about 17 years old. I'm a big U2 fan, and their Rattle & Hum album and movie had just come out, and of course he had a duet with U2 on the album and a pretty prominent appearance in the movie. Anyway, I walked over and introduced myself and asked him to sign the cover of my Rattle & Hum cassette tape, which he happily did. He was as gracious as could be. Gave me a huge smile, shook my hand, patted me on the back, called me "young man."

Nice guy

Cameron Crowe - he was scouting locations for "Elizabethtown" a few years ago and toured my company's building with a bunch of his crew. I'm a PR manager so I got to show him around. He was just about as nice and down to earth as could be. We talked for a bit about the local film scene. He loves Austin.

Tom Penders - sat next to him on a flight from Austin to Chicago. This was when he was still coaching at UT. I'm really not a fan of him as a coach, for obvious reasons, but man, he was a nice guy. Very chatty. He got on the plane with a bag of Taco Bell, wolfed it down, then proceeded to throw in a big dip of skoal and start throwing back the drinks.

Kelly Willis - sat next to her on a flight from Austin to DFW. I'd just seen her at Gruene Hall the week before. Told her I was a fan and she was as sweet as could be.

I actually met Tony Dorsett at a girls basketball tournament several years back and he seemed like a complete gentleman to me. Now, Mark Aguirre was also there and he was a complete butt.

My 3 most recent celebrityencounters were all very positive ones. One of which was just last night. I was at Luling Market - the one in Houston getting some BBQ and Matchbox 20 came in. Rob Thomas was next to me in line. Very nice dude. I actually had tickets to the show, but cannot go since we just had a baby. He congratulated me on my child. He was cool.

I worked out with Jamie Foxx, and he was allsome.

I met ROnnie Lott at Boulevard in San Fran. Another awesome dude.

I've had lots of run-ins, but haven't come away with many impressions one way or the other. I think most of them want to be courteous to avoid being "that" celeb, but don't want to just sit there forever chatting with a complete stranger.

Nicest (of the ones that actually left an impression): Gary P. Nunn, Steve Nash, Mykelti Williamson, Dennis Rodman, Vinny Paul, Ed Belfour, Mark Cuban, Pat Green.

The only celebs that ever pissed me off that I can think of are Spud Webb (yes, that scrub thinks he's enough of a big shot to be a jackass), and Tim Delaughter. It took all I had not to unload on him. This was pre-Polyphonic Spree, everything is wonderful Tim Delaughter.

Rudy Tomjanovich is nice.

This didn't happen to me, but I watched it and was thankful for my decision not to pursue an autograph: when I was a senior in high school, we went to see the Oilers play the Chiefs at the Astrodome on Monday Night Football. These were oil company tickets so they were pretty good. I noticed Evander Holyfield sitting a few rows down from us and my kid brother and I debated whether to ask for his autograph. We also discussed beating his *** and taking his lunch money but I believe that may have been tongue in cheek.

After about two minutes, we see a guy approach Holyfield with paper and pen and evidently ask for an autograph. Holyfield never struck me as a temper guy, but he looked royally pissed and blew the guy off, barely looking at him.

At that point, I was glad we hadn't been the ones to try to break the cherry. I didn't see anyone else ask for an autograph that night.

Met Ozzy Osbourne in Hawaii about 6 or 7 years ago - he seemed like a nice enough guy.

It was kind of a surreal experience. I was on a treadmill in the hotel exercise room. It was an indoor/outdoor exercise room that opened onto a patio.

Anyway, Ozzy came in and started working out on one of the machines behind me. I knew he was at the hotel so I wasn't totally surprised to see him. I didn't say anything at this point.

The treadmill had a tv on it and as I'm flipping through the channels, I land on VH1 which is showing a "Behind the Music" on, you guessed it, Ozzy.

Ok, now I have to say something. So, I turn around and say something like, "Hey, you're famous; VH1 is doing a special on you." He looked at me and laughed. We talked for a few minutes about his MTV show, the hotel, what to do in Hawaii, blah, blah. Just shot the ****.

After chatting for a bit, we return to our workouts. A few minutes later I hear Ozzy behind me say "Excuse me, excuse me." I turn around and he says, "Excuse me, but is that a spider?" and he starts pointing to one of the columns on the patio. I look over and see a lizard climbing up the column.

I say, "Um, no that's a lizard."

He says, "Oh, ok. Just checking. I thought it might be a spider."

Ah, the life of a rock star.

Lessee...

Steve Young - Not cool
Wade Boggs - Pretty cool
Kerry Collins - Cool
Slash - Drunk and dazed
Conway Twitty- Pretty cool
Franco Harris - Nice guy, wouldn't sign anything
Dan Hampton - Very Cool
Sterling Sharpe - Cool
Emmitt Smith - Cool, his agent wouldn't leave his side.
LeVar Burton - Cool. Some didn't like him but I thought he was cool
Mary Lou Retton - the best

Enough time wasted on celebs today

Shaq - Awesome. Met him between his fresh/soph year at LSU. I was just a kid. My friend and I walked up to him and asked the dumbest question in history: "Excuse me, are you Shaquille O'Neal?" He deadpanned, "No." and then looked at us for a few seconds and started laughing. He was nice. I didn't get his autograph that time, but I got it later.

Emmitt Smith - Met him at the Corpus airport after the first Super Bowl win. He was busy, but nice enough to talk for a second. While I told him something, two very attractive women were patiently waiting with camera in hand. He spotted them, looked at me, looked back at them and said "Excuse me..." I gave an understanding nod.

W - Don't agree with his politics but he seems like an ok guy. Met him when he was governor. I got to talk trash to him about the Rangers. He was a good sport about it.

Ahhh Mary Lou, the one celeb I met who was sorta a jerk. A group of us were at the UT game in Houston (the bleacher game). Anyway we were standing up (which we normally do) and the couple behind us asked us to sit down. My friend asked if they had ever been to a UT game before and they said, "Of course we go to all of them", and then the wife pulled the "Do you know who I am" card. But we didn't ...
smile.gif

Anyway we eventually moved over to the side, so we were blocking them less. I try to not be a jerk while standing, but it sucks sitting down

I got to go backstage after a "Wiggles" concert and let me tell you this, "Motley Crue" ain't got nothin' on those guys.

Great thread. Off the top of my head:

Charles Barkley: dick
Mark May: dick(surprised?)
Stephen A. Smith: was ****-faced
Greg Anthony(ESPN NBA analyst, or used to be): cool
Priest Holmes: cool but a bit odd
Daryl Johnston: very cool
Greg Lemond: cool
David Copperfield: distant, too busy making out w/some strange
Billy Sims & Jason White(together): cool
Mark Cuban: extremely cool
dude who won Oscar from "Crash": cool
Rob Thomas: very cool
Marisa Tomei: very cool
Have met several current NBA players, as a whole I'm not too impressed.

I know it won't be too popular here but I have actually met Mercury Morris and Duane Thomas on several occasions (we share the same alma mater) and both are actually really nice guys

Met most of these guys as a kid at a local country club

Terry Bradshaw: Total ***, was drunk as a skunk. Berated my dad for "bad parenting" because I (7 or so at the time) asked him for his autograph in the pro shop with nobody else around.

Roger Clemens - Was kind of a dick. Dad asked him to autograph a scorecard, and he just said "I don't do autographs anymore". So we got up to the first hole, my dad hit his drive, and we went up to the Reds for me (still 7-8 at the time). Lo and behold Clemens and three buddies come up behind us, and get to watch 8 year old me spend 5 minutes trying to hit the ball off of the tee. You could tell he was getting a bit impatient. So my dad offered to let him play through for an autograph. I have a framed Clemens-signed Barton Creek CC scorecard in my gameroom.

Hung out, either on the course or in the locker room/spa with Coach Royal, Willie (together and separate), Hollywood Henderson, pretty much every golfer that's over 60-70 now that you can name, and a bunch of others that I don't remember. The only golfer I remember being a prick was Lee Trevino. Chi Chi Rodriguez was the coolest dude ever. Coach Royal was awesome, and recognized me about 6 years later and called me by my name.

I also beat Brad Buckman (around the same age) in a 3 hole tournament in summer camp, for a trophy, and he started crying.

Raymond Floyd, the old golf pro, is a cock gobbler. So is Dr. J...trust me. Billy Gibbons is incredibly nice and so was the guy from Animal House who played DDay...RIP.

Augie Garrido picked up my group's tab about six years ago at kenichi... couldn't have been a nicer guy, though he was slightly inebriated at the time. I'll never forget it because the preseason poll had just come out and I remarked that the Horns were No. 9. He replied, "son, do you ever go to a game and cheer, 'we're No. 9!'? Hell no, you don't. We want to be No. 1." Five months later the Horns won their fifth CWS.

I've gotten to interview a few marginal celebrities. Pat Green couldn't have been a more self-absorbed a-hole either time I spoke with him, but Rhett Miller was as cool as the breeze. He was on the road at the time and kept getting disconnected because he was in an area with a weak signal. But he kept calling back everytime. Since I'm a huge Old 97s fan I just kept asking questions, and he kept answering. I must have chatted with him for a good hour, almost.

I met Ozzie Smith at the Houston galleria on a HS trip way back in the day. He was gracious enough to give us all autographs, but we didn't talk to him very long. He seemed pretty cool, which made me happy, because he was always one of my faves.

Sat next to Mike Epps on a flight. He was hilarious and wasted.

Terry Bradshaw complained to me about the price of popcorn at the movie theater I worked at. Yeah, the prices blow, but you are Terry Bradshaw and I am a 16 year old kid. What the **** do you want me to do about it?
