Celebrity Jerks I Have Met

I sat in an almost empty bar and talked for an hour or so to Wayne Rogers (MASH) and two people he was with. I was real cool (and clueless) because I didn't recognize him even after he said they were in town working on a movie. My friend told me who he was when we left, and then I realized who he was!

Andy Roddick was really cool with me, but I was friends with one of his best friends and we were all hanging out downtown, so maybe he felt like he had to be nice?

Elijah Wood - super cool and really funny

Dominic Monaghan - very nice and gracious

I used to work in a downtown restaurant. It would be easier to name the celebs who havent been in there in a way.

Anyways, nicest one was Francis Coppola.

Caveat - all of these people were met in a political/policy sit-down meeting environment over a decade, which may or may not be indicative of their true personalities, good or bad.

Fred Thompson - couldn't be bothered with people he didn't recognize. He literally looked right over people’s heads for folks more worthy of his time.

Mike Huckabee - Sincerely nice and interested in the folks he meets. Was as happy chatting with waiters as dignitaries.

Jessica Simpson (and her entourage) – the worst. I got the impression she was a bit intimidated in a political environment, but she was not all that nice regardless. Her hairdresser and her Dad were dicks too. Who brings their hairdresser into a policy meeting? Or their Dad, even if he is your agent?

Bono - Truly awesome in every way. That dude sings golden melodies every time he speaks in small meetings. He said if he wasn’t in a band, he wanted to be a political speech writer, and believe me when I say, that dude would have been one of the best ever.

James Dobson - I take back what I said in the first line. Biggest dick ever. Made all the worse because he purports to be a man of faith. The prick makes others people's staff cry if he is asked to wait a few minutes for his meetings. He berates people that disagree with him.

Mother Teresa - The best ever. She was seriously transcendent. A true saint. The day I met her changed my life.

Angelina Jolie – She was cool, but very reserved. She was open to talk with everyone but wasn’t warm. Her staff, along with Simpson’s, had the most unreasonable demands of the people she was meeting with, which were a bit ******** based on who they were coming to meet. You don’t ask for a meeting with someone then put a bunch of ******** demands on them. DC and LA don’t mix a lot of the time.

Nancy Reagan – Not nice. Expects to be treated like royalty. She gets pissed if someone else is wearing the same color dress.

George H. W. Bush – very gracious and welcoming. Made a point to walk into meetings he wasn’t involved in just to visit with everyone. A real nice guy.

I went to a birding festival in McAllen a few years ago, and Bill Nye the Science Guy gave a presentation at a dinner, and led a nighttime "bug watch" at a park, and he seemed very nice, personable and entertaining. Maybe you hit him on a bad day or something-we all have those.

Tony Dorsett - complete ***
Jim McMahon - real nice guy
Chris Fowler - cool
Jerry Jones - surprisingly nice
Ed "Too Tall" - despite what a previous poster said he was really nice to me

Vince Gill????
Cher-was snotty when we tried to talk her up in Vegas.
singer Kenny Rogers-Tried to have us thrown out of the Hyatt Dallas because we had the next suite to him and ask him for an autograph when we ran into him in the hall.
Killer Tim Brooks-Was very nice to us and was more of a gentleman to my wife than I would have expected.
Paul Newman-Was very nice, stood and talked with us about cars and racing.
Earl-Ran into him many times in Tyler and Austin and he is a top guy.

I played blackjack with Kenny Smith (TNT basketball) at Mandalay Bay back in January. I was surprised he was playing the limits we were at ($25 min). At times I had more on the table than him.

He was quiet but nice.

Ah, gambling. I played craps with Kenny Mayne in NOLA for about 2 hours during my spring break senior year and he was the nicest, chillest guy ever. He was there covering a horse race and we talked about his bets, the city, how great this one guy was rolling, a bit he'd done about the Yankees. It was like having my own personal celebrity entertain me while I gambled.

I met Dr. Phil once. Not much different than his TV persona. Very overbearing, doesn't let your facts get in the way of his opinions.

Also met Douglas Adams, author of the "Hitchhikers" trilogy. Very nice guy. He autographed my hardcover version of "Mostly Harmless" when he came to Austin in 1993. Real shame he passed away way too soon.

Powers Boothe is supposedly a distant relation by marriage, but I have never met him.

I won't go into the whole story, but Tommy Shaw from Styx is a giant a-hole for scamming my date after a show in Ft. Worth.

Walked into dive in Grand Prairie one night to have some beers. Sat the bar next to Johnny Rodriguez and drank with all night eash of us buying rounds back and forth. I didn't even know it was him, but they happened to be doing karaoke in there and teh guy up front asked him to do a song and introduced him. When he came back and sat down I said nice job. Man did I feel stupid. We got plastered!

Mike Jones-- Very friendly, down to earth. I don't think the guy is that talented of a rapper, but my encounter made me buy his album and root for his success.

Stacy Keibler-- Kinda full of herself (but who wouldn't be if you were in her shoes) I wouldn't consider her that friendly, but she wasn't a *****. One of the those celebs that would let people take pictures with her, but would look like it was the biggest pain in the world.

Bishop Don Magic Juan- Quite possibly the coolest person I have ever met in my life.

Bernard Hopkins- Nice Guy. Took a picture with my frienda and my girlfriend. Saw him in Austin one year during the Texas Relays.

Anne Richards - I thought she was kind of a brat.
Lance Armstrong - An ***. I dealt with him on several occasions and he had this lame - Don't you know who I am / Oh, I'm so tired of being bothered - attitude.
