BTHO the Huskies - Alamo Bowl

I scored a Sugar Bowl cap from my daughter (then in the LHB). She thought the Sugar Bowl experience was a great end to her band career.
I guess you mean the UT vs UGA game. That was awesome, my daughter was a Jr at UGA and my son was Fr at UT. Pre game we went to church then took my 95 year old Godmother, RIP, to dinner at Galatoire’s on Bourbon St. She was born and raised New Orleans. We walked in and it was “Miss Lou, come on in, your table will be ready in 5 mins”
She didn’t have 2 nickles, I supported her for over 20 years, but it was Old New Orleans! They new and loved their old timers from a different time period. Times have changed. I’ve been back twice and they still want to talk
about Ms Lou.

Ok, here is the scoop-

San Antonio has WAY better hamburgers than Mexican food, i know you don’t agree but eat at these places and tell me I’m wrong-

In no order-

Chris Madrids
Longhorn on Blanco
Chesters Cheeseburgers

There are others bit these are my must hit when on town.

Longhorn is still open on Blanco just South of 1604? Don't wear anything good because you'll walk out smelling like grease and with grease up to your elbows. That's what makes it good. I have a good friend from Eunice, La who loves Grease burgers. I took him there for lunch. After one bite he had me go get him a knife and fork. Chris' is still my favorite. He was a really good guy.

65,

It was my families favorite vacation spot for 20 years. It is now a shell of its former self. The once great service has been replaced with give-a-**** attitudes. Political ******** and wokeness is alive and well. We always stay for 7-8 days, but the last two years will be our last. Truly sad.

Just noticed RO and JWhitt on Alamo Bowl ad at Texaspsorts.com. Guess Bijan is out. "Thank you Longhorn Nation...............Bijan" note coming out tomorrow I bet.

Living in San Antonio it is disapointing to hear disparging remarks. Is there any game that can match the Riverwalk atmosphere the days before the game? Fantastic new restaurants. Attendance 72k will likely exceed or match a couple of New Years bowls and the dome crowd noise cheering the Horns will be deafening.

You're right...I disagree.

Never had a bad experience or have experience anything but. A Great time. I do not know what it is like now but based on what my relatives say it is not good. They are moving to other states.

If you don't like San Antonio something is wrong with you. The people are nice, not snotty like a few Texas cities, the food is good no matter what you want. And I've been to many Alamo Bowls, all the ones we've played in and some of the ones we didn't--Great energy and atmosphere in all of them. Usually a great game, too.

The River Walk? Yeah, it's a tourist trap and the food down there sucks. But shame on you if that's where you spent your time.

Go on...

:coolnana:

I want to hear about these great Mexican food places, since I've been to one the aforementioned burger places and it was really good. Please do tell - because I want to check them out.

Keeping it football related: Go Horns! Beat Udub!

I guess you yawners and bored folk don't have to tune in.
I myself relish another opportunity to watch the Horns play, win or lose.
It's a long off season.
And the 15 extra practices do matter.
It's an improvement over last season and hopefully a sign of better things to come.
And it will be starting at 2am over here. :)

If you haven't been, I HIGHLY recommend a trip to the Missions.

I could easily name 3 locally owned Tex-Mex places in my town that are better than anything on the Riverwalk. But the folks from Washington won’t know the difference.
Places on the Riverwalk are designed to fool tourists into thinking they got something authentic. I would avoid it. But there are many fantastic Tex-Mex places in SA.

Not a fan. The riverwalk stinks and the traditionally good food down there has deteriorated over the past 10 years. Anyone on our team can take a trip down anytime they want to. Like I said, I'm sure Washington is going to love it.
If you’re into food then The Pearl is right up your alley. The Culinary Institute of America is located there and the entire (amazing) Pearl development is based on culinary arts. No national chain restaurants. I’m guessing you haven’t been to SA in a while...

Ditto on this. Carriqui is awesome. Grayson Street has good variety and if the weather is good a great outside dining area, as does Carriqui. Breakfast? Full Goods Diner. I'm not a big fan of Cured because I don't eat a ton of meat but the Happy Hour Burger is good and the bar is well stocked. La Gloria's is good if you just want to sit outside and enjoy the lights but I'm not a fan of drinking a margarita out of a plastic cup and I don't love their menu.

Okay--Mexican food. My favorites are El Mirasol in the Alon, Sol Luna in Alamo Heights and Rosario's downtown. La Fonda on Main is sometimes good and sometimes not, IMO. But their patio is nice. You'll need a reservation for La Fonda if you are going at prime dining hours.

Hope this helps. And if you go to any of them and don't like them, don't blame me!!!!!:beertoast:

PS-I only like Sol Luna if I sit outside. Not a fan of their indoors. Just saying.

As for the actual game...

:uw:

If this was played at a true neutral site, UW would likely be favored by 3-5 pts.

10-2

Ranked #12 in the Nation

Wins over:

#6 Oregon
#11 Michigan State
#23 Oregon State

They scored 32 and 38 points in their two losses (to UCLA and ASU).

#2 scoring offense in the country at 40.8 PPG, behind only Tennessee.
2022 College Football Team Total Offense Stats | ESPN

#1 passing offense in the country at 376.7 yards passing per game
2022 College Football Team Passing Stats | ESPN

These Dogs can really light up the scoreboard.

Fortunately, their defense is only so-so, and looked pretty lousy against Washington State. (a 51-33 win for UW)

The river walk smells.
Im sure some will agree, I know I will.
Yes, it can be smelly and overrated; tourist trap. There are a bunch of great restaurants and upscale bars street side near downtown. Here are two that are underrated - very good Mexican suggestions in this thread; so thought I would add some Italian / Pizza options:
