The reason Davis has liked zone blocking better than drive blocking is because the defense can't tell the difference as easily between pass and run. Period. I have not liked it either and wanted change, but to be fair, our offense has been awfully hard to stop for quite a while.

As far as drive blocking not working in major college football because of stunts, slants, blah, blah, drive blocking is all over the TV every Saturday of every fall and it's works pretty well alot of the time, talent and various other factors dependent. Granted, not as much on Sundays, but Saturdays, no doubt.
 
imo we are going to the run for several reason. Many of those have been listed, but let's not forget we are also doing it because we can. Remember, the rest of this conference is mostly pass happy and has recruited a bunch of smallish fast guys that will NOT be equipped to stop our power over the next several years (I am assuming we will get Brown). Mack and company know this, along with all the other stuff being discussed. With Nub leaving, we have a bunch of finesses teams that we can and should sock in the mouth. This style of running, with our receivers and QB's, will get them cheating up and then we can exploit them with our passing game, which we know is , well, really good !

We REALLY need this guy.

If he decides to go elsewhere at least he won't be able to use Peterson's excuse for choosing OU - that he wants to go somewhere he can play for a MNC. Of course the irony in AP's comment doesn't escape me.
 
Peterson's a very good back. Best in the league is debatable, but he's good.

That said, I'm glad he went to OU and we won that National Championship against the, ahem, greatest team ever.

kind of see where salonghorn70 is on this....it started as a MB thread but seems to have deteriated to some degree to a diversity of indirect topics / subjects.....I believe he is simply saying it should be kept to / back on MB and his recruitment......agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Tell you what - if I were Malcolm, I would be in no hurry at all right now. I'd want to see if Mack and Greg are honest to God, no ****, gonna put a worthwhile running game on the field this fall, before I made any kind of commitment at all.
 
Actuall, I wasn't reaaly talking about this thread. What I really meant to say is that all of us have been focusing on Austin S-J for the last couple of weeks on other threads. Well, that didn't work out. I just wanted to nudge the conversation back to Brown by using this thread to do that. I'm hoping this one turns out better for us.
 
I was wondering why it hasn't been mentioned till now. Bama fans were given congrats to Texas fans for a couple of hours now on rivals message board.
