Brown narrows it down to

HD

Chase Daniel was told he was our #2 choice behind some kid that went to zero u...or was it sam houston state...or was it both?

admittedly, we were not recruiting 2 q.b.'s that year & we are recruiting both Brown & Green. i do think Mack is honest with kids re: potential playing time/roles...though, like u, i doubt Mack would put it "you are #2" unless he were handing out jersey numbers.

There's a kid named Daniel Lasco whom I am told the coaches have contacted and whom they may like as much as Green.

I'm pretty sure they believe that Brown is a singular, unique talent but that Lasco is very talented in his own right.

Lasco has a pretty impressive offer list. Thing is, I'd never heard of him 'til mentioned on this thread.

Lasco

Here's his highlight: Video

Also, I thought Chase Daniel was our number two behind Perillouix, not that other kid, named chett, er brett, er rhett. But we also got another kid named Colt that I guess was our number 3 behind Perillouix and Daniel, that worked out pretty good for us.

I really can't see Mack telling anyone they won't get to play if they are the best performer. I doubt anyone gets guaranteed playing time. How could you do that?

Horn 87, I'm plenty old and after reading your post about 5 times its coming back to me, the receiver, Mark Ingram.

The point I was trying to make in my original post is that us Texans are not reading about those backs from foreign conferences on a daily basis. Takes a lot longer for a out of state back to become a household name.

I know Lasco is a running back, but when he gets in the open field, his stride looks a lot like Jordan Shipley's. He's good at getting out of tight spaces, tall, lean, fast and appears to catch the ball well (of course, the video doesn't show any drops). If the RB thing doesn't work, he might be a pretty good slot receiver.

Impressive athlete, but a tough one to read. The Woodlands always has a good school, and he has tremendous blocking on those plays. It's hard to determine if the kid is great at reading blocks and adjusting, or if the entire team is simply completing their rolls. No doubt an asset, but probably needs to work on his footwork a little. Explosive and fast, but the only thing I see is an ability to start/stop and veer.

"Shoo-in," fellas. Not "shoe in."

As you were.

Read on another site that he is visiting the 40 today. (7/14)

It was in the SA paper. An unofficial. His coach does NOT expect him to commit on the visit. Same article mentioned that Green has now expanded his list to include Baylor because of their QB and a track connection.

I don't think the "years gone by" has a thing to do with our getting an elite back. We had Charles and he is pretty darn elite. IMO it has to do with the scheme and the type of back we went after before. That is changing, just like it did when we began going after QB's that could pass first and run second not many years back.

Last I heard, Texas is switching to a power running game. That should be enough of a change to get Brown's attention.

At the Orange-White Game, they mostly ran out of a pro set with Barrett Matthews as an H-Back. It raises the chances of Mack closing the deal on the kid. Malcolm Brown seems like a good guy and hope he's sucessful regardless.

It is exceedingly easy for our coaches to point out the recent success of Priest Holmes, Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson and Jamaal Charles in the NFL. Who does Bama currently have in the NFL other than second stringer Glen Coffee? The recent success of Longhorn running backs in the NFL is a very strong counterpoint to what Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson are currently doing at the college level.

I've got a really good gut feeling about pulling in Brown. I mean his family can watch every single home game as DKR is right about an hour's drive up the road - that's HUGE. Today's article in the Statesman quotes his coach saying that he expects a decision before the start of the season or even sooner. I'm thinking we get good news here pretty quick.
