Brown narrows it down to

If someone had asked me who Mark Ingram was, before I read the link, I would not have known. I know all about Earl and Ricky.

I'm just worried about this one. I've read stories saying his Mom is solidly for the Horns. I've read stories saying that his friends say it will be Bama. In this story he seems to have both programs equal. I just hope it comes down to his family having an easier chance to see him play at Texas.

I hope we get this guy. He has 5 star talent without the 5 star ego. That said if I were in his shoes as a senior, I would have a tough time deciding. These are both great programs. Also, Mack and Saban are two of the best recruiters in the country so unless you have strong ties to either program, that would make it a tough decision.

But I think the trip to Tuscaloosa will wear off and at the end of the day, I think Texas will win out. Mack is one of the best at closing the deal. Also, all he has to do is make the short drive down 35 as much as he needs to. But even if he goes to Bama, he's earned my respect for his humility.

Whatever Momma wants - Momma gets.

Hope this guy knows his stuff:

I have an event this evening with some of the orangebloods.com staff sponsored by the Houston Texas-Exes. We'll have to see what their feelings are on Brown's decision.

Wrapping up a talent like Malcolm Brown will make this 2011 class one of the best ever recruited by any program. The kid is definitely top class. I wish him the best wherever he may go. Add Austin S-J and KABLOOYEE!!!

I visited Bama with my son this past spring. It's a nice place.

Austin is better, but Tuscaloosa is probably his third choice behind Austin and Athens.

I think Brown will make the right choice and choose Texas. Mack has always had good results when he has targeted a recruit in San Antonio.

Well Jeff Ketch just said tonight that Brown is a Texas shoe in. Austin S-J is strong but not a sure thing yet. Green's on a holding pattern until Brown makes his choice & Wallace is strong. Says the 2011 class will stop at 25.

We shall see.

Couldn't be more wrong Texas Jack. We are a lock for Brown and the chances for Green have been on the rise as of late. AS-J is basically a lock once he gets here. I'm less confident about Rasco and Wallace, but it seems like we'll get one out of the two.

Am I the only one who is sitting here thinking - what is it that all these reporters/bloggers know about Malcolm Brown's recruitment that they all think he's a shoe-in? I haven't seen anything pointing to him being a lock and all I've seen and heard points to this kid being on the tipping point of committing to Alabama?

Yes, you are the only one.
The rest of us are sitting elsewhere while we think.

Despite Ketch's reassurances, I am beginning to worry about Alabama.

I mean, I know that they don't have any great backs in the league and that UT has several, but Saban can recruit.

Tuscaloosa isn't bad. It isn't Austin, but it isn't bad. One of the better SEC cities, that's for sure.

To expand further on how Ketch explained the Green situation last night, and I'm not saying his opinion is absolute truth, is that apparently the coaches have explained to Green that Brown is #1 and he is #2 or #1a. Since Green has not made an announcement regarding his commitment it has to make you wonder if he doesn't have Texas as his #1 choice, waiting merely to see what Brown will do. Cap that with these two are both in SA, know each other well enough to be in communication with one another and this makes for a very interesting situation. All appearing to favor Texas any way you twist it.

Now then, Ketch could be completely wrong and get snowballed when the announcements are finally made but Ketch sure felt comfortable putting his stamp on this.

A 25 recruit class would be one of Mack's largest and the talent that it includes is absolutely sickening... if you're anybody other than Texas.

These are good times, my friends. We need to cherish them!!!

I'm not buying that story. It's one thing to be aboveboard, it's quite another to tell someone you'll settle for them if your dream date has other plans. If that IS a true story, then it explains why we have totally whiffed on our top choices for a particular position. Not complaining about the obvious success of the recruiting program, but I would have to question the wisdom of the approach. Telling someone that if, for example, Brown wants to play at UT then UT will take him and he will start out ahead of anyone else (same class) on the RB depth chart if he does. That would make sense and seems fair. That's not the same thing as telling someone they are your second choice. Largely semantics, but much more palatable to me.

dont know how old you are, rivet, but vividly remember Boomer of ESPN with him saying "MMMAAARRRRKKKKK INGRM!!" especially after his crucial 3rd down catch against the Bills in the '91 SB vs the Bills...not much of a father figure, though

Rivet: (apparently I messed up while quoting your post..)

a.) Gained over 1000 yards after contact
b.) Amounted more rushing yards himself than our entire team in the previous NCG
c.) Is only a Junior
d.) Heisman winner
e.) All of the above

it hurt to put that one together :/
