Boyer' open letter to Kaepernick

Not hot in Dallas

while a discussion about Charlie's Angels would never be dismissed by me ...

The NFL is dying in part because of the political correctness. The ESPN announcement is a half-hearted attempt to close the barn door after the (livestock) already went to pasture. Politics is PRECISELY what ESPN sought to engage and they did.

They also devalued the NFL production by televising a game every night of the week and sometimes multiple games/night.

I can’t believe Nike marketing decided to kill 50% of their customers. Damn this might be the dumbest marketing in history.

1. Did CK, or anyone for that matter, research what prompted and WHY the anthem and flag waving at sporting events? It actually has very much to do with honoring and respecting our military and the sacrifices they made/make. I highly doubt CK researched any of it before his protest- to me showing his lack of intelligence, research and respect. I haven’t seen anyone- politician, news source, military member, facebook Internet tough guy, or other first give credence and explain WHY we hold the flag ceremony at sporting events. Shameful.

2. In his original statement on why he was kneeling, CK said "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,". He equivocates the entire country to one that oppresses people of color. We all understand our troubled past, but in 2016 this is hardly the case nor is his protest [supposed to be, if he follows his own (flawed/ignorant) logic] about oppression. The BLM movement is about police brutality and injustice, not an entire nation oppressing people of color. This country, in this day, is one of the greatest for civil and moral rights and opportunity for people of all nationalities. In all, this country’s positives, triumphs, atonements and accomplishments far outweigh it’s negatives. THAT, and the overall good-natured act of standing in unison to a song and symbol that unifies us is why I believe we should always stand and show respect.

3. CK continues to go on and state “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." So many flaws in this statement, little to no research of what actually transpired, and low intelligence plus lack of logic. Many cases (Brown and Sterling) were simply jackwagons who did enough wrong to invoke a justified shooting. Some were people incapable of handling the stresses of (perceived or real) life or death situations (Castille and Crutcher)- a thing many of us think is so easy and can arm-chair quarterback but would fold under the pressure if put in the same position. That’s not an excuse, that’s being human. (Another thing critics remove from their analysis of police officers- they are human beings in incredibly difficult situations). Last, does CK believe we should abandon a cornerstone of our law and justice system- innocent until proven guilty?!?! These officers, when involved in a shooting, should be immediately determined to be at fault, put on unpaid leave or fired? Coming from a person who no doubt has clauses in his union contract that protects and pays him if something (injury) happens on the job? Would anyone apply to be a police officer if they knew that given a significant enough altercation that they’d be out on unpaid leave with no protections pending a lengthy investigation? It’s (another) low intelligence, ignorant comment and rationale.

4. Protesting while on the job may be constitutional, it is wrong IMO. I would have nothing to say if NFL players organized, applied for, and held an assembly to protest. I’d disagree with their message but whole-heartedly agree with their right to protest.

5. CK is upset and suing the NFL for collusion- as he remains unsigned. It is well known that coaches, staff and owners do not want players who cause significant drama on the team, especially at quarterback. The circus that would follow CK around- in the locker room, on the sidelines, on the field, during interviews that have nothing to do with football are the antithesis of what is good for the team or what an organization wants from a player. ESPECIALLY (once again), from their quarterback. IMO he completely brought this on himself, and is now upset and suing- it’s almost laughable.

This is another out of touch with reality company who thinks they can make political statements. I needed a new pair of shoes which I have been putting off for the past couple/few weeks. Today I chose to purchase New Balance instead of replacing my old nike's with a new pair of nike's.

Their stock is up over 30% this year so the 3% decline today is hardly a blip on the radar. Let's see how much steam this anti nike movement builds.

It looks like Nike is betting they can get more millennials to buy than they will lose the rest who are productive people who will not buy another product.

Nike also announced they are expanding the women's product line and go harder after the runner's market.
Time will tell.

PORTLAND, OR—In response to their competitor Nike’s new marketing campaign featuring former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Adidas reportedly unveiled former police officer Darren Wilson Tuesday as the new face of the brand. “Darren Wilson represents the values that Adidas stands for—the values of true-blue, patriotic Americans,” said spokesperson Victor Donnelly at a press conference where Adidas displayed a new 30-second black-and-white ad spot featuring close-ups of Wilson, Timothy Loehmann, John Rogers, Andrew Hutchins, and several other police officers who were acquitted in the shooting deaths of unarmed African American men with the new slogan “Believe You’ll Walk Away Scot-Free” superimposed over their faces. “Whether you’re walking carefully through a crime scene to plant a gun on someone or sprinting after a suspect so you can shoot him in the back, Adidas offers the most comfortable, form-fitting, breathable attire for high-performance police work. In these controversial times, brands like Adidas must take a stand, and wherever you go from now on, if you hear or see the word ‘Adidas,’ we want you to think of Darren Wilson.”

At press time, Adidas’ stock price was soaring after a massive increase in sales.

It's kind of funny that people think Kap/protest is the reason for the viewership decline and not the millions who watch illegal streams on Kodi or other alternatives.

You really believe that 12% of the NFL viewers from last year just started streaming illegally using Kodi. I doubt 12% of NFL fans even know what Kodi is. LMAO!

You think people are watching free (illegal) streams instead of watching free broadcast TV? And you think there are "millions" who do so?

I highly doubt it.

Good point. I thought the game was on ESPN but your are correct it was on NBC. It’s amazing the level of denial I see by folks trying to rationalize the consistent loss of viewership. I actually thought ratings would trend up this year because of the reallowance of online betting. Not to mention this was a good matchup including the defending Champion. Total disaster is the only way to see this.

Player contracts should be linked to viewership. Fix that **** in a hurry.

In a round about way contracts are linked to viewership. When viewership goes down enough so will ad revenue. Eventually the teams won't possibly be able to pay those silly contracts. When that happens I predict the union will overreact and threaten the NFL claiming racism and owner greed. Maybe even threaten a strike. If that happens ratings will absolutely plummet.

I don't think the union will strike or threaten a strike over this. Money talks, and they're not going to take that kind of risk. I could see a handful of players threatening to sit out (and maybe some actually sitting out) to make their point.

While you are correct that the bullshittery from Kapernick is not the sole reason for the demise of the NFL ratings, it is a significant factor. However, you are NOT going to tell me with a straight face that one out of every eight viewers suddenly stopped watching commercial broadcasts because they found some alternate stream to view games online...

The SCotUS decision on sports betting did not suddenly make online betting legal. It did open up windows in certain States and, within the boundaries of those new jurisdictions, one can bet online to the extent that a licensed book has an online presence. However, the jury is out on the impact of the mobile betting even in the places like Nevada where sports betting has been legal for DECADES.

Where mobile betting has the biggest potential is for the in-game live betting, especially at the arena where games in legal States are being contested. There are many such as William Hill and MGM that are obviously licking their chops at the prospect of live in-game betting after the Raiders move to Vegas...

Uh oh -- Ruth Baby says of the Kaepernick stuff:

'I think it's dumb and disrespectful'

Anyone think Don Lemon will suggest she is a white supremacist?
Either way, it puts liberals in a tough spot

It's too bad that she's so liberal, because I like RBG. I like that she got tipsy before the SoU and passed out, and I really like that she admitted it instead of trying to come up with an excuse. It's refreshing. I can definitely see why Scalia was a big fan.

Two factors at play. First, RBG is an old school free speech believer. The state can't stop your speech, but people are free to criticize it and don't have to enable it. Even if she's often wrong, she is principled.

Second, as an old lady, RBG grew up in a time when the system truly disfavored blacks and in substantial ways. If you were around for lynchings, real disenfranchisement, and Jim Crow, whining that police will defend themselves if you attack them looks pretty stupid especially if you disrespect the flag to make your point.

I think she has probably just reached that point all old folks reach when they just dont care what anyone thinks about what they say out loud. It's funny when Aunt Betty does it, but sounds a little different when coming from someone who can suspend habeas corpus. I suspect there is probably cause to remove Ruth from office. I doubt she could survive a competency hearing, or even stay awake through one.

It was that way with Thurgood too. He watched reruns on a small TV in chambers while his clerks wrote everything for him, even opinions. He passed out during oral arguments, sometimes snoring audibly. Can you imagine how distracting that would be trying to argue a case over snores? But no one was brave enough to risk the backlash that would come if they tried to have him removed (woe is he who takes down a hero), so he just kept watching Matlock and Mayberry RFD. We are probably getting close to that situation with her.

You're probably right. I don't remember her being like this until about 5 years ago. However, whatever it is, I'm a fan. She's liberal as hell and almost always votes the wrong way but at least dishes out some humor and entertainment. I'll take that over some sanctimonious hack who takes herself seriously like Sotomayor.
