Bin Laden dead

So, what I surmised above about waterboarding (Enhanced Interrogation Techniques) having been the source of the intel is now being reported to actually have been the case.

Can we queue up the outrage from all the liberals? Waiting, patiently...............

Once again, for the record, i'm glad we did it and I'm glad Obama used the info.

You bring up an interesting questions.
"So, what I surmised above about waterboarding (Enhanced Interrogation Techniques) having been the source of the intel is now being reported to actually have been the case.

With several major media outlets reporting the intel came from EIT how will those on feel?
How will those on here who posted that even to save a loved one's life they would never use EIT.
How do they feel now?

I think Obama deserves credit for changing his opinion and making use of that intel. And for changing his opinion( he used to feel we needed to capture OBL).

Once again it is interesting to see how Obama uses Bush's plans and policies.

Good Job Obama.

One way to appreciate a SEALS ops is to read the book by former SEAL Dick Couch, "The Warrior Elite: The Forging of SEAL Class 228." Couch was on SEAL Team One in Vietnam, was the Honor graduate of his SEAL class. After retirement, he spent time alongside the training of a SEAL class and documented an account of what it takes to get through the training.

Having read that book, I feel an empathy I would not have had, for the elite of the elite that were on this mission. The best warriors on the planet, and character made of steel. The book reads differently than you'd imagine. I'm just really glad I read it and have that in my psyche to appreciate what just went down.

HOOYAH!!!

book as shown on Amazon

Osama was gonna die one day, and this is a symbolic victory, but I am not gonna jump up and down celebrating.

Wasnt KSM the mastermind? Thats all we were hearing a year or two ago right? Why isnt there a bullet in his head and celebrations for that?

Bin Laden has been out of the loop for years and the US has killed several supposed "top leaders" of Al Queda in the past 5 or 6 years. Basically, I dont think this makes a ****, unfortunately.

I agree with the posters that unless the economy and the value of the dollar improves, this will not make a difference.

People want to find something to cheer about, and the amount of sunshine pumping over this is pretty meteoric. I certainly hope that this doesnt get any bigger. The War on Terror is akin to the War on Meanness and the War on Jealousy. It will never end, but it certainly is costing a lot of money and lives.

Now that the boogey man is dead, and at the bottom of the sea.... will US foreign policy change? Will we continue to prop up dictators?

A mansion in the middle of that dump in pakistan? Im sure the Pakistanis didn't know he was there.
rolleyes.gif

It was a good move not to let the Pakistanis know of our raid. Surely they would have tipped of bin Laden

Terrorism Advisor (John Brennan) just said that Obama made gutsiest decision he has ever seen a President make.

damn, it must be true. let's name some schools after him. oh wait, that has already been done.

It’s a bit foolish to so quickly attribute waterboarding and torture as the means from which the initial intel was derived. There is absolutely no evidence to support that conclusion.

Anybody that can read, and has actually done so, is aware that CIA and FBI interrogators themselves have consistently stated that the reliable intel they received at GITMO was obtained through traditional interrogation methods, and none from the waterboarding sessions.

For all the talk of a huge compoud with 12 foot walls.... anyone see the pictures on yahoo.com?

The place looks like a dump. NOT a mansion in the least. Hell, that place would be condemned if it was off MLK in east Austin.

"Compound?" The White House is a freaking Compound. The bin Laden hideout wasnt worthy of a Oklahoma mobile home park.

Yoladu,

Gutsy? Had the mission failed we would never had heard a peep about it.... This was a secret mission. I just read an article earlier today about how most of what the JSOC does is top secret and is never leaked or heard about.

This would have been no different.

Obama has had no problem with drones flying into Pakistan and killing hundreds at weddings for the sake of maybe getting one or two targets, but with this he wants to go in so as to not hurt anyone else? Huh?

This wasnt gutsy. Its great theatre however.

Hail to the Chief! Great job by all involved!!! Too bad the partisans can't take even one day off from their nonsense. Even your hero Bush sent congratulations to the Prez.

i appreciate your sarcasm General, but it is true. Can you name a gutsier call made by a president that John Brennan has seen?

The intelligence services had located bin laden in an administration declared "friendly" country. his only decisions were whether to bomb the compound, extract him, or eliminate him. i think his decisions in both iraq and afghanistan over the last two years hold a lot more courage. i do not see how obama had any other choice than what he did so i dont see it as very gutsy. worst case scenario is that it fails which doesnt mean much because he was making an attempt to get bin laden.

WASHINGTON -- Officials say CIA interrogators in secret overseas prisons developed the first strands of information that ultimately led to the killing of Usama bin Laden.

Current and former U.S. officials say that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, provided the nom de guerre of one of bin Laden's most trusted aides. The CIA got similar information from Mohammed's successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi. Both were subjected to harsh interrogation tactics inside CIA prisons in Poland and Romania.

The news is sure to reignite debate over whether the now-closed interrogation and detention program was successful. Former president George W. Bush authorized the CIA to use the harshest interrogation tactics in U.S. history. President Barack Obama closed the prison system

The revelation that intelligence gleaned from the CIA's so-called black sites helped kill bin Laden was seen as vindication for many intelligence officials who have been repeatedly investigated and criticized for their involvement in a program that involved the harshest interrogation methods in U.S. history.

"We got beat up for it, but those efforts led to this great day," said Marty Martin, a retired CIA officer who for years led the hunt for bin Laden.

It took years of work for intelligence agencies to identify the courier's real name, which officials are not disclosing. When they did identify him, he was nowhere to be found. The CIA's sources didn't know where he was hiding. Bin Laden was famously insistent that no phones or computers be used near him, so the eavesdroppers at the National Security Agency kept coming up cold.

Do you still think this.
"It’s a bit foolish to so quickly attribute waterboarding and torture as the means from which the initial intel was derived. There is absolutely no evidence to support that conclusion.
"

Here is yet another source
LATimes
"Crucial information about the trusted courier who owned the compound came years ago from CIA interrogations of 9-11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohamed, the official said. This is significant, because the Al Qaeda mastermind was subject to waterboarding and other brutal interrogation methods.

"We were able to get pieces of information from detainees," the official said. "That took years and these guys don’t give it up all willingly."The Link

Remember when the team that did this. Navy Seal 6 was called Cheney's " secret assassination team" by libs and leftists were horrified? My how things change
