Big 12 WBB Tournament 2024

Fortunately, for this first game, Ku men play @ uH today at 3 pm. So their fans will be preoccupied watching that. Plus when we play KuWBB at their gym the games are not well-attended. But if Kst gets past Wva, I think they'll have a decent crowd.
KU had plenty of fans here in KC last night vs BYU. I bet they'll have plenty here this afternoon as well. I had fun cheering against Baylor with all the ISU fans this morning.

It may be, but beating Canzez in what is basically a home game for them sure won't be easy. Vic better have them focused, locked and loaded. BS this is always in KC.
KU is going to be ready for us... we'd better be ready for them to be ready for us.

We're afraid to even try a three. Had two opportunities that time, but just no confidence.
I was thinking the same thing. Or, they are just following the game plan given to them by the coaching staff. The fourth quarter turned for so many reasons, but mainly because Holle made two 3-pointers. We scored 28 points in the fourth quarter after scoring a combine 29 points in the prior 2 quarters. Not sure why Vic decided to play half-court basketball in the middle 2 quarters of the game; Kansas was the team who had played a game yesterday so I thought our strategy would be to run more and play our transition game.

Thank you Shae Holle for busting that game open for us... literally! Good team win and great game by Amo with the double-double.

Well, it was a win. That's the bottom line. I guess with a day off it wasn't as important to give players more minutes of "rest" here and there especially as we'd been off for 7 days. We really didn't get final double-digit separation until like 5 minutes left in the game; so, probably not worth bringing Jones and Moore out of the game as I know Vic trusts them more than their backups, especially on defense.

I really liked the offense we were running early in the game. After that, Shay and Shaylee seemed to be more perimeter passers than shooters. Seemed like Vic ended up getting Gonzales to play the point more down the stretch; not sure if that was because since Gonzales wasn't scoring at all, might as well try to get Booker moving without the ball and finding her some more open scoring opportunities. Not sure why, but Booker's 21 points were very "quiet" to me. I'll have to go back and watch her scoring plays.

I can't get over the way Holle busted the game open. It was exciting to see her take the bull by the horns. Those three baskets turned the tide of the game. Moore is so tough. Who would guess she could play like that, being undersized in the low post. I would also be ok if she took more shots from the top of the paint.

Kansas was the hottest team coming into the tournament. That game was never going to be easy. They had all the wind but we had all the drive. Solid win even if it got close a few times. Kansas had the lead briefly a few minutes into Q1 and then never again. Gotta love Holle. And congrats to Moore for the POG nod. She is just so solid.

Bring on KState!

It was a great game for the burnt orange. Only 7 turnovers and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds. I sure hope A-Mo stays healthy through these tournaments she’s been special this season.

The arena was covered in KSU fans during our game (mostly in lavender) so I’m not looking forward to the hostile crowd Monday but our team seems to thrive on it.

Yes, it will be just like playing in Manhattan. We simply can't go 2-11 in 3's again. C'mon Shaylee let's get hot again!

brnkj
You are there in KC supporting the team
And Still found time to post the presser.
I look forward to to the presser but didn't expect it since you were there.
Thank you:hookem2:

Coach Vic commented during halftime of WV/KS game that shooting 3 pointers was something he was willing to work on during the summer. He then said Texas was winning without them even though the local media was always asking about why they didn't shoot more. Sounded like his current style of play is not something he's willing to give up on until maybe next year.

Well I think we can all agree that Texas’s depth and talent in the post is its major strength this season. Vic has probably heard of “dance with the one that brung ya” I’m guessing. 2 of 8 from three last night won’t be changing his mind.

Well, except that Vic never stops saying “you win with guard play” and he never stops giving credit to Shay and Shaylee.

He’s often talking about their defense and there’s more to offense than shooting the ball. His “good guard play” has an emphasis on getting the ball to the bigs.

Anyone catch Vic's interview in the booth during halftime of the KSU/WVU game last night? He was asked about lack of 3-point shooting in the game until the 4th quarter, and he got annoyed quick. He said that media in Austin has obsessed about that, but this team wins without needing to shoot many of them. He said "we'll work on 3-point shooting in the summer; but, it's too late to change things this late in the season" or something close to that. The thing is, his team has had games this season where they have shot three's much more liberally and successfully; it's like he's playing things tighter down the stretch of the season, and to me that means the players are going to play tighter if he doesn't loosen up and show them he has confidence in their long-range shooting abilities.

Can't say I listen to all Vic's interviews, but I've never heard him talk specifically about his guards' defense when he talks about "winning with guard play". He usually says that when they've scored in double figures and are sitting next to him in post-game interviews. Who did he have sitting next to him last night? The 2 guards who scored in double figures. And, he specifically talked about Holle making shots last night.

I know it helped us out but this double-bye 4 / 6 / 4 system is really weird, vs just giving #1 and #2 a first-round bye while the other 12 play, to get down to 8 for the next round. I guess they thought this rewards the regular season performance more, but if people really cared a lick about that, the auto-bid would just go to the regular season champ in the first place.

If you haven't heard him talk about it, that's all right. I haven't seen him play any guard who is all offense all the time, and playing time speaks louder than any interview ever will.

Who said anything like that?

We've all seen him play those players who play defense, and sits those who don't (including his own daughter back in the day). That's not just the back court players; that's all 5 positions.

The discussion is about his repeated comment that "you win with guard play". What did he single out Shay for in yesterday's post-game? Her offensive scoring outburst in the fourth quarter. This was his exact comment: "As I told Shay Holle, it's a whole lot easier coaching this game when you got a guard who can make a shot". Again, that's about offensive guard play, not defense.

If you want to see success with the three look no further than South Carolina. They don’t depend on them, don’t take them often, but when they do, they are very good at making them. Personally I think Holle and Gonzales are much better at slashing to the basket (Gonzales) and/or using a pull up jumper (Holle) which (IMO) is what Vic likes to see. You have to give up some of your inside game to allow for an outside game and we have a really good inside game. Once we got better at breaking the zone, I expected even less of an outside game. But, those threes really are fun when they do come out. I appreciate that Holle uses them sparingly. Something tells me we’ll see more of them from Booker next year.

When I was watching one of the South Carolina SEC tournament games, one of the announcers said that SC lost their Final Four game last year because of their lack of three pointers. So, SC grabbed Paopao from the portal.

Another tough one today vs KSU. I don't see how we can win today without some outside scoring. Ayoka Lee is a load down low, and we need to go right at her with our collection of post players and make her play some real defense. I never noticed on TV, but in person you can see that she camps out in the lane about 5 seconds on almost every possession without it being called. In fact, most calls go her way.

Yep, she will go full on bull in a China Shop and the ref's will be blind, but every time Texas get's within 3" of her it will be a foul.
