Baylor Mind-Blowing

I don't think you can pretend that the Athletic Department and Briles are part of a supposedly "Christian" university. They have sold their souls to win and the supposedly "Christian" fans love it. So the whole school and the alumni are pretty much trading what they say they believe for victories. Scum.

I am Baptist, and have known many, many people who have served on the board at Baylor. Baptists have limited forgiveness for preachers and/or their members, but their personnel in the athletic department is quite a different thing.

Perhaps the administration thinks that because they covered up one death and tried to cover up another, along with covering up the worst drug abuse problem in NCAA, as well as the second worst steroid abuse problem, that the most recent infractions are minor in comparison to someone having the audacity to die while on scholarship.

I know I am supposed to be forgiving, but I have a deal with my preacher. Tell me when/if Robert Sloan is going to be the guest speaker, and I'll visit another church. Nothing like paying Vanderbilt tuition for a Sam Houston State education.

I'm a Baptist, too, which makes their hypocrisy more disgusting. I'm tired of their holier than thou attitude. Art let a thug on the team and within weeks he rapes a female athlete. Then they take away half of the victim's scholarship and pretty much force her to leave Baylor. I guess she was lucky she wasn't killed. And I knew as soon as the story broke that nothing would happen - they have a new stadium to pay for.
 
OK, I'm late to this party. I know Art Briles brought in a POS, who was later convicted of rape.

He voted Texas low in the Coaches Poll in 2008, hurting Texas' chances of being the B12 South champ (though Leach did as well and gets nothing but gas huffing around here).

Briles also looks like a mean SOB, and seems to walk and act like he just **** his pants.

While the above is not a small body of work, what else makes Briles a nasty coach? Curious as to what other dirty laundry is out there about him (besides the above mentioned self-soiled drawers).

I hoped we never tried to hire him. Some people thought it was a good idea, but he is a POS. There is nothing he (or anyone connected to Baylor) would not do if it helped him win. He is obviously a good coach, but as a man, not so much. His original hatred of Texas came when his son could not break into the starting lineup. He loves to run up the score against inferior opponents. He overlooks things with recruits. In August his DC told alumni that the rapist would be on the field in Sept. Apparently they thought the scum would be able to get off in Waco. He almost did - 120 days for rape which ended with the victim pretty much be run out of Waco. I assume they thought she'd be a problem with their new player. I'm sure there are other things which BU can hide. Nothing would surprise me. (Can you tell I despise him?)
 
I hate the attitude that his team's play with. It is not the attitude that a Christian University should be displaying. There's a difference between playing tough and aggressive yet respectful of the game and playing dirty and cheap. They're the closest thing, attitude wise, to "The U" that there is going today.

He also does run up the score and schedules like a chicken ****.
 
Talking about Briles, the one thing that troubled me about Sterlin Gilbert's intro presser was the praise he heaped on Briles and, in particular, the fact that he specifically alluded to the caliber of the man. To call that tone deaf would be generous.
 
Duke, Gilbert might be thinking he might be out of a job with all of the Texas coaches after next season so he didn't want to burn any bridges.

I hear you, but this comment by Gilbert about Briles just didn't sit well with me: "That guy's a high character guy." I just wish that he had chosen his words more carefully...given that he should have known the history with regard to Briles and Texas, and his (Briles) very disturbing indiscretions that have been well chronicled in this thread. IMO it's hard to argue that Briles is a "high character guy." (Perhaps it's a minor issue for others...)
 
Briles is a competitor and an outstanding coach and recruiter. But that other stuff is a little over the top. Tony Soprano was a competitor and a strong leader. Not a high character guy.
 
You want to see Baylor squirm, let the first subpoena be issued of Jim Fix. If the lawyer representing the victims does that, Baylor will standing at the door, checkbook in hand.
 
I've said it before in this thread, and I'll say it again....

Please do not equate Bailor with Christianity. The one has nothing to do with the other, and hasn't for a very long time. Through personal experience, I know this to be true. It's not merely the sports department that is guilty of atrocious behavior; it involves virtually every part of the school, including the Religion department.

Bailor broke from the Southern Baptist Convention many years ago, and it was a good thing as their beliefs and practices were dramatically changing. Now, they are reaping what they were sowing. I only hope they experience full retribution for their actions/inactions that will cause them to return to being a truly Christian institution.

Fix was strength and conditioning coach at Baylor for many years. Saying he looked like "Mr Clean" was the only time that word was ever associated with him. I truly believe he longed to be at Nebraska, but even that piece of **** Tom Osborne wouldn't touch him. Not sure what happened to him, but he was there one day and gone the next.

I'll give him credit, he didn't whine and cry like a little ***** like someone that used to be in our athletic department behaved when he thought an investigation was coming.

Baylor Coach Resigns; Tape Raises Questions

Baylor University basketball Coach Jim Haller resigned Friday, following a television broadcast of a tape on which he allegedly was heard discussing car payments and the use of steroids with a former player.

Haller will remain as coach through the end of the Southwest Conference season, Baylor President Herbert Reynolds said.

The resignation came a day after Dallas television station WFAA played a tape of an alleged conversation between Haller and center John Wheeler, who withdrew Friday from the university. The conversation concerned Wheeler's use of steroids and his request for help in making car payments.

On the tape, Haller was heard to say, "I'm out of that (steroid use). Not that I don't want to help you, but they scare me to death. I wish I didn't even know you were taking them. Don't you ever tell anybody that I've ever been involved with it.

"You better not ever tell a soul that (Baylor strength coach) Bob Fix had you doing it. Now Fix, he's pushing these things, and he's going to have his (expletive deleted) in a crack if anybody ever talks about that. I would just drop it. It bothers me."

The tape also included a discussion involving a check Haller made to help Wheeler make three months' worth of automobile payments.

Baylor is 9-14 and tied for last place in the conference. In seven previous years, Haller compiled a 93-113 record. His highest league finish was a tie for second in 1981.
