Avery Johnson Fired

What pisses me off the most about Damp is that he has never developed any post moves. Not even one. Geez at least learn a hook shot or something. He also can get pushed off the blocks fairly easily when he does have the ball. Be a man, get your defender on your hip and at least have one move to the hole.

I whole heartedly agree with Nuclear Bear. People are also forgetting the type of season Dampier had prior to signing with the Mavs. Did we overpay? Yes, but only in retrospect. There is no doubt in my mind that Dampier has been a big boon for us defensively. The Mavs defense improved leaps and bounds over the Nash-led Mavs. And that was without an elite perimeter defender on the roster. Dampier (and Diop) had a lot to do with this.

Nice read in the DMN this morning. Basically said Avery was for the Kidd trade and had lost "trust" in Harris (that was obvious), but at the same time thought the Mavs gave up too much once the first trade was nullified. This is odd to me as I thought the Mavs actually gave up less in player personnel in the 2nd agreement and more in cash. I guess that is assuming one thinks Stack actually provided anything at all late in the season.

As to Damp, I still think he's pretty worthless. He certainly helps the Mavs some, but I also think Dirk plays better D now then 4 years ago. Damp is ok against big/slower guys, but he can't move well enough to defend the back side. Still better then what they had before. Mavs haven't really had a decent center since Donaldson.

ESPN is saying Carlisle is the new coach. That's not overwhelming or underwhelming...just kinda whelming, if you ask me. There has to have been a better candidate out there to replace Avery, if Cuban had been a little more patient.

I agree with J40. I also listened to the press conference and Avery definitly tried to distance himself from the horrifc Kidd trade.

The Thing about it........is that Cuban or Nelson would not have pulled the trigger on this thread if Avery didn't okay it.

Avery is trying to cover his ***, because that trade sent the Mavs from being one of the better teams in the NBA to a very old, slow mediocre ball club.

It was obvious to a bunch of us that the trade was moronic because the Mavs were losing some of their strenghts and greatest advantages over the other teams, and not getting a whole lot back.

Carlisle has basically the same playoff record as Avery, 30-32. Yesterday Mavs mgmt was saying they were going to be patient and take their time to find the right guy - meaning they were going to wait until their guy was out of the playoffs.

I read that as Flip Saunders, who I would totally be onboard with. Carlisle seems like Honorable Mention to me and I would think he would be accepting of any job offered to him.

Hook'em!!!

There is no way in hell I would want Flip Saunders anywhere close to the Mavs.

i want a good X and O's coach who can run a defense offense and i think Carlisle is a good pick.

There are only two guys out there now that I'd like to see coaching Dallas. Unfortunately, one of them has a long-term job coaching the Jazz, and the other one's doing a really good job with the Hornets. Rick Carlisle has been fired by the University of Virginia, Detroit, and Indiana. I see no reason to think he's a long-term answer in Dallas. I'm not sure the late Red Auerbach would have been a long term coach under Cuban.

Why does everyone like Flip Saunders so much? I think he also has had a little bit of a problem in the playoffs. Avery Johnson sucks.
