ARKANSAS DOESN’T SUCK

I almost did that too. Freshman year, a group of us in Jester planned to go but the roadie fell apart on Friday.
That was my Sr year, went to every game. Only other thing I remember was going to Houston we had been drinking beer all the way down. Got stuck in traffic and I had to pee. Hoped out of the van and peed in the middle of a V between 3 freeways. Surprised we didn't get arrested, but it is Houston.

81 was the first trip I made to Fayetteville. We were ranked number 1. The stadium looked like an oversized high school bleacher stadium. I made the mistake that day of telling my buddy that the stadium looked “rinky dink”.
One old woman behind me was on me the rest of the day. We played terrible and at every bad play, she was right in my ear with “rinky dink” whatever.
Pigs score and it was “That was a rinky dink td” ad naseum.

I was really wanting Bevo....but you'll just have to do.

Texas Homer does a nice preview below:

Highlights:

- 1st Arkansas sold out crowd in years; No love lost in the hills.
- Young Briles Veer-and-Shoot offense spreads the D out and opens up the running game by removing defenders from the box
- Disciplined football on D will be important
- Look for lots of up-tempo "hyper-speed tempo"
- We'll rotate our DTs (we do anyway)
- QB AJ Jefferson - a "dynamic athlete"; big running/passing QB; plenty of QB draws and zone read options; hard nosed running; a fullback playing QB; think a less talented version of Sam. Pedestrian completion %. Jefferson had a terrible first half vs Rice. Mostly a mental thing with his quick reads. Look for Coach PK to confuse this QB a lot; that's something PK does in any game, but we should be highly successful against a scatterbrained QB.
- Burks = all-around stud WR, but is he still hurt? Was wearing a boot recently. Tall leaper. Pushes off DBs. Fearless over the middle. Good hands. Quite a good WR.
- Warren = speedster WR. Likes to go deep.
- TEs Kern and Hudson Henry aren't used that much. 1-2 catches over the middle per game.
- RB Traylon Smith; quick and shifty darter. Hits the corner.
- OL -- has struggled in recent years. Now has a decent OL coach (sound vaguely familiar...?). Right side OL = run blockers. Left side OL = pass blockers. All starters are 300+ lbs.
- DC Odom (from Missouri) is highly regarded
- 4-2-5 base defense, but they'll switch to a 3 man front and drop 8 into coverage on obvious passing downs.
- S - Catalon is a high round NFL level player. Ball hawk pass defender. Fast closer and brutal tackler on run defense.
- LB Grant Morgan would be the top LB in the Big 12
- Bumper Pool stuffs the run, but is so-so at coverage
- Gerald is a good DE, but I think he's also hurt now...?
- Ridgeway is a pretty good DT, but he's had recent injury problems.
- The D-front doesn't pass rush that well, and they're weakened by recent injuries.
- This is a D-front our OL can handle, maybe even dominate (maybe).

I know you may have been kind of surrounded but you were more patient than I would have been with her ongoing rant....

Another preview is now up; Chip Brown interviews an Arkansas online media guy, Trey Biddy of HogSportsLive:

- QB KJ Jefferson's passing was off, but he wasn't helped by his WRs dropping a bunch of passes. He overthows a lot. He's got to learn to throw the ball away when in trouble. He's a funny guy off the field. QB needs to improve from the Rice game or it won't be pretty for the hogs.
- Safety Catalon (from Mansfield, Texas) with 2 INTs in the first game. The hogs secondary in general played well.
- Bumper Pool had 14 tackles vs Rice, so he'll really be missed a lot in the 1st half.
- RB Treylon Smith is very elusive, can spin, and avoid, he lives and breathes football.
- RB Sanders (true Freshman) 228 lbs. Power runner, can move the pile in short yardage situations.
- RB AJ Green, Freshman, runs a 10.38 100. Hasn't been used much, but with that speed, he's dangerous.
- WR Burks is rusty coming off an injury; WR Warren is fast and goes deep.
- TEs are pretty good, but aren't used that much in this O.
- OL has put on around 20+ lbs per man. They want size and power. With a running QB and a couple of decent RBs, they can be effective running the ball.
- 3-3-5 D, actually a 3-2-6 on passing downs. They like to drop a bunch of guys into coverage. Could be a bend but don't break philosophy. We can run on these guys. Overall, the hogs secondary is pretty good.
- Monterick Brown is a talented CB
- CB Bishop played poorly vs Rice.
- The Hogs D front is beat up and wounded, and not all that great to begin with. If Ridgeway is back and healthy, that would help the pigs a lot. He's 320 lbs and athletic for that size.
- The back end (LBs and Secondary) lead this D.
- Barry Odom is crafty. He's not PK, but I'd say he's in the top quarter of D-coordinators, maybe top 10-15%. His big problem is a weak and wounded D-front, and one weak LB for the first half.
- The hogs have all sorts of trouble with their special teams.
- Older Arkansas fans really hate Texas. A Texas fan could give all his $$$$$ to charity, and the older Razorback fans would still find some reasons to hate him.
- They're proud of their 2 Jumbotrons...
- At the end, even this Hog fan picks Texas to win!

My editorial take:

:ut:O > :ark:D

:ut:D >> :ark:O

Reading between the lines of Sark’s latest statements, seems like he may be selling our kids on playing an SEC team and how we can stack up against the “ big boys” rather than the old Hogs/Horns rivalry. May be a good strategy considering that none of our players were alive when competition between our schools was real. Nonetheless, the team needs to be prepared for the venom that will surely be displayed by the Arky faithful.

Hmmm, very mediocre arky team with injuries, OL player out or injured, starting DE out likely, starting LB out first half...

Sorry, but this Horn shark smells blood in the water!!:headbang:

Big 8? WTF?

arky was poor vs Rice until the 4th qtr. Hell they tied it 17-17. Don't care if they were "looking ahead". Coaches should have made sure the FOCUS was the opener, Rice!

Not buying this video... arky sucks!!

UT is not Bama, but the Horns will come in confident. I guarantee these arky players deep down fear the Horns coming to town and exposing them.

One thing I always disliked about arky... and I will grow tired of in this game, is hearing their lame & rinky-dink fight song!

Anyone else that is annoyed by it?

With their injuries and Bumper Pool out the first half, if we get a quick jump on them, we could blow it open early. Above all, avoid the INTs and fumbles. Their secondary has some talent, but one glaringly weak CB.

KJ Jefferson is one of those QBs whose own fans constantly demean him and talk him down. He has some real accuracy issues. It sounds like he's also easily confused. But, he can run and put his head down and power forward for first downs (so at least he has that going for him...).

This is likely the worst team in the SEC West. (high hopes for the Pirate)

Better be careful yelling "Pound the Pigs!" near an Arkansas farm. They might do some things to those poor little porkers in the pen that would get them arrested in 49 out of 50 states, and executed in most Middle Eastern countries.
:lmao:

Are there any pig farms in Arkansas anymore? Evert driveway has the same sign -

"Tyson Foods - (insert family name) Farms

Tyson gives you the baby chicks, the feed; you shelter and provide the water. In six weeks Tyson buys the full grown chicken back.

Stuff we might see:

How bout some swing passes in the flats to Bijan in the 1st half to the side of the field that LB Bumper Pool's replacement is on... And work our TEs behind that poor sucker on play actions. Basically, pick on him all through the first half. Isolate speed burner Moore against CB LaDarious Bishop (who played poorly -- against Rice), and send him deep. Or just let J. Whitt pick on Bishop all game long. Do some 2 RB stuff; as Ark keys on Bijan, do some misdirection and ram Roschon up the gut and off tackle against a weakish Arkansas D front.

As much as I think Arkansas will try to establish the running game, I'd think we put plenty of men in the box. Our CBs have to play tough and have a good game, especially on Burks. If we tackle well (expected of us), I don't see them scoring too many points. PK will fake blitzes, drop an Edge player into coverage, and disguise things a lot, as this QB is reportedly scatterbrained and has a hard time reading the coverages. He does like to take off running, and has the mindset of a fullback.

Oh yeah, and we block a punt!!!
