ARKANSAS DOESN’T SUCK

This hog team is looking to improve on their 3 wins (over Tenn, MSU, and Ole Miss) last year.

Returning starters: 7 on offense, 9 on defense, punter.

Key losses: DT Jonathan Marshall, (Round 6, Jets), QB Feleipe Franks, CB Jerry Jacobs, RB Rakeem Boyd, WR Mike Woods (transfer to Oklahoma), DL Isaiah Nichols.

Top returnees: WR Treylon Burks, WR Trey Knox, QB KJ Jefferson, RB Trelon Smith, TE Hudson Henry, C Ricky Stromberg, LB: Grant Morgan, DB Jalen Catalon, OL Myron Cunningham, LB Bumper Pool.
(the highlighted guys are on par with our talent level--in Burks and Catalon's case, maybe even better)

Top newcomers: projected starting DL John Ridgeway (transfer from Illinois State), projected starting DE Tre Williams (from Missouri), DL Markell Utsey (from Missouri), former 4-star OT Ty’kieast Crawford (from Charlotte).

QB: Felipe Franks is gone, so KJ Jefferson will be the QB. Jefferson is like a low-talent version of Sam. He's a big (240lb) QB who likes to tuck the ball and do some power running, and he's fast for a guy that size. He's ok on the RPO. The problem is, he has nowhere near Sam's talent level. Also, apparently Briles is trying to make him a pocket passer--a role he looks uncomfortable in. It doesn't seem that KJ Jefferson is the right QB for what the hogs are trying to do. They've got some personnel issues here. And the QB runs the show. Again, defending big sized run-pass QB KJ Jefferson should be like going against a much less talented version of Sam. Contra-point: KJ Jefferson played pretty well against Missouri last year. You can put lipstick on the pig, but KJ Jefferson is a downgrade from Felipe Franks. If the suckage gets too bad, Coach Briles can put in speedy backup QB Malik Hornsby.

RBs: Trelon Smith (fast) and Dominique Johnson (big) bring the speed and power.

OL: The OL has experience, but they're mediocre at best. Not as good as the Cajun OL that gave up 4 sacks, and many QB pressures, to us. And we only gave up 77 yards on the ground to the Cajuns. Arkansas allowed 36 sacks last year, and that was with the faster Felipe Franks at QB, rather than the big bruiser QB Jefferson. Oh yeah, the pigs just lost their OL coach in June to LSU. If we can get 6 sacks against a capable UL line, we oughta really tattoo Jefferson.

WR: The hogs best WR, Mike Woods, transferred to Oklahoma. WR Treylon Burks is 6'3" 225 lbs, so they like them big; he's the playmaker of the bunch and is good. The rest of the WRs are pretty pedestrian. Cover Burks well and stop big plays to him.

TE: Hudson Henry :smile1: is probably the starting TE. Not bad, but nothing special. Same with the other main TE Blake Kern--although there's at least one mention of Kern on a future NFL watch list.

Overall -- this is just the sort of O that Pete Kwiatkowski can shut down. I don't see them scoring much. Note: THEY LIKE TO RUN SOME UP-TEMPO HERE-AND-THERE.

DL: They're big, but they had difficulty generating any pass rush last year. This is a big part of the reason the hogs gave up 35 points per game. The leading sacker had 2.5 sacks last year... Bunch of no-talent a$$ clowns. Exactly what we need our OL to face after an underperformance against Z'yon Hill and his Cajun friends. The swine are having to rely on some transfers (John Ridgeway from Illinois State and Markell Utsey and DE Trey Williams from Missouri) to bolster a weak unit. If we handle them even reasonably well, Bijan (and Roschon and the other Robinson) will roll. Definitely one of the weaker DLs we'll face all year. They'd better hope their transfers from Missouri and Ill State come through for them. Else, they're just awful on the D front.

LB: Now here's a pretty good unit with Bumper Pool and Grant Morgan. They'll have to blitz to make up for the lack of DL/DE pass rush, and they're fairly capable on that front.

DB: S Jalen Catalon is good, real good. The other safeties, Foucha and Brooks, aren't bad. There's a noticable drop off when it comes to CBs though. THEY LIKE TO RUN ZONE COVERAGE - so look for guys like J. Whitt to find their soft spots and make plenty of grabs. Some of this may be due to their lack of confidence in their CBs. Good safeties/lousy CBs.

Overall: Good LBs and Safeties; not so good DL and CBs. I think Sark will work the running game until they stop us, play action may be interesting against good safeties and LBs, but lackluster CBs. Maybe some play action deep and to the outside; and I love our play action to Bijan in the flats--that's probably our best consistent play thus far. Sure they have plenty of returning starters, but they finished 106th in total defense and 97th in scoring defense.

So feel free to say it: ARKANSAS SUCKS!!! The linked Alabama website below has them losing every SEC game except Miss State. Oh yeah, they really, really hate us--Good. We will savor our victory over the haters that much more. That, and it's time to bring back a heated, hated rivalry that's been mostly dormant in recent decades.

Barry Odom (Missouri) is the new DC. He's got some work to do allright. Meanwhile, the fan base has soured on OC Kendal Briles--he's taking a lot of flak on the message boards.

Had a female friend-of-the-family in our church back during the SWC era who was a megahuge swine fan (her hubby was neutral). Anytime the hogs beat us, she would either call my dad that day or literally run up to us at church and gloat like pig with pearls on. Dad would always smile and be gracious, even chuckle a bit at times. That was my dad - the best man I've ever known.

Me? I'd be wishing he would hit her in the mouth.

Anyway, whenever we won and dad happened to see her at church, he would say something kinda "gloatish" to her. In response, she never smiled, sometimes muttered something, and always hightailed it.

So, anytime we play the hogs, I want our team to go all Bruce Lee on 'em.

Chop, another great pre-game scouting report!!! UL was better than what Horns will face vs hawgs.

The stills in the hills will be working overtime this week to make moonshine whiskey for hawg fans to consume this week AND especially next week after the Horns prison rape their team on Sat. !!! :headbang:

That's too long for me to read. ADD and all.

Those of you younger than me (who isn't) might not understand what it's like to play in Fayetteville. I came of age in the 60s and 70s when Arkansas was our primary SWC rival. Think Morgantown on steroids. They hate our guts. Their crowd is rabid, loud and intimidating. Card has never seen or experienced anything like it. It will be a good test for him, and the rest of this team. Expect a monumental effort from the Pigs.

It aint gonna be easy.

8055,

I've tried to educate the younger crowd on the days when you had to drive to Washington County up through Mena, Waldron, Fort Smith, Van Buren knowing that restaurants wouldn't seat you much less service you, gas stations refused to let you buy gasoline. If you had a hotel room, it was either in Fort Smith, up in Rogers, or in Tulsa. You really didn't want to be on that road back to Fort Smith after dark. The younger crowd looks at you like you're making up stories.

One of my favorite cousins had a ranch over in Greenwood. WE could drive there and take one of her cars or pickups to Fayettenam wearing white shirts, then change after we got parked.

No matter how bad the piggies might be, they always seem to be up and ready for us. There are hogs fans on my wife's side, her grandfather, grandmother, mother and two aunts, are all University of Swine grads. Wife and I are both Texas grads.

I'm old school and know Horns history with this rival. Hog fans have a longtime red hot hate for Texas and UT. Some would say they hate UT more than they love their team.

Many in that state and fans have had a longtime inferiority complex. Maybe less so now than in the 60's, 70's, etc.? The fans generally believe the Horns have generally gotten the best of them. Many of them old enough have never gotten over 15-14 Horns win 1969.

I have no doubt their team and fans will be jacked up for the Horns Sat.

I was at the game with BAOKLAHORN the last time the Horns played arky 2008. Colt & company disemboweled the hawgs 52-10. The beatdown was so bad, arky canceled the return game in Fayettenam the next season. So this game is the make up that canceled game.

Reading DCTF, other articles and Chop's crack scouting report on arky, me thinks the hawgs are outmatched by the Horns. Hell, they struggled until late 3rd qtr. to beat Rice, at home!

I have a high level of confidence Horns win this game.

As of today 9/5 - Hog DL Ridgeway is now day-to-day with appendix / appendectomy. He missed their Rice game and may or may not play against us.

For us: Omiere (knee) is upgraded to day-to-day 9/5. Liebrock (shoulder) and Alexis (knee) are out for the season.

College Football Injuries 2021-2022 - Full Injury Report for Sep 05, 2021

Reports say Ridgeway has appendectomy over weekend

Texas WR Troy Omeire begins rehab process, time frame to return is unknown
Omeire needs to rehab the next two weeks so he can be back and healthy for conference play. Let’s not risk it against piggy or Rice. Tech can be a nice game to get his sea legs back and ready to take on the hard games thereafter.

I told Omeire what you said. His reaction was like....

Looks like I haven't logged in or posted in 10 years. As you might imagine, this is the week of the year for me. Grew up in the 80s, brainwashed by my family to hate everything UT (although I grew a healthy respect in my adult years). Yes, this is our Super Bowl. We can lose the rest after Saturday. Go Hogs Go

It has been a while. I'd wish you good luck, but, well, you know.

I sincerely mean no disrespect, but it must be really difficult being a hog fan. And I’m going back to whenever you guys left the south western conference. We’ve been facing our demons as well but not to the extent of Nebraska or Arkansas has

I’m right there with you Worster. The rivalry/hatred is clear from wayyyy back. This will be a fight for 60 minutes unless we can put an immediate hurt on them and with the intensity I anticipate from the get go I doubt Card will start out strong. I’m hoping for an outstanding finish.

My story is from the 2004 game. Flew over solo from CA and stayed at a pretty new Fairfield Inn & Suites. I didn’t have tickets but was able to buy a single outside between the 40s, halfway up. Perfect seats. Of course, I was in a sea of scarlet.

We won a close one and Vince played well. QB Matt Jones, later a TE in the NFL, melted down twice late in the 4th, allowing us to seal the deal. I remember Cedric Griffin coming of age in that game. Prior, I was not impressed.

The Piggie fans were nice to me. Apparently too nice. I wore blue Jean shorts. Still have them. When I got back to my car after the game I noticed that I was sticking to the seat. Apparently one of the Hog geniuses had put a wad of gum on my seat and I didn’t notice until after leaving the stadium.

It was a small price to pay for a great win. Saturday it won’t be that close, and Hog Nation is going to be very disappointed.
