American Idol ...

I am really not trendy/hip/current. I hear the term "emo" a lot. Is that what Danny Noriega's look is? Whatever it is, it needs to go. Part of what makes Tainted Love so cool is the music. That version last night was an abomination.

I don't know if I can make it through another performance by Amanda.

I can't believe they said Alexandrea looked good last week. I was watching her going "What the **** is she wearing?"

I felt so sorry for the girl that left last week, the one that said "I can't sing!" I always wondered how hard that would be but they all seem to do it. Mr. LLB kept saying "Somebody's in Ryan Seacrest's ear going 'Make her sing!'" Kady and all the other girls looked completely shocked that it wasn't Kady who left.

Archuleta's songs need to get uptempo fast. And somebody made a good comment above that his songs are more about the singer than the song. He is so manufactured I'm getting sick of him.

Yeah...it was ok.

Again, I'll go in order:

Asia'h Epperson...Did Whitney's "I wanna dance with somebody". It wasn't Whitney, but it was very good.

Kady Malloy...Took on Queen's "Who wants to live forever", and pretty well hacked it brutally to death. It sounded nice in parts, and horrible in others. Lots of Queen on this year's Idol. Very brave. Freddie Mercury was one of the best singers ever and sang some of the most difficult songs ever.

Amanda...ugh...chose Joan Jett's "Hate myself for lovin' you" to further hide her weaknesses. Still sucked. The judges all loved her tonight. They must've all been sharing the same crackpipe. She really is...not...good...at...all.

Carly...sang something very forgettable pretty well. I can't remember what it was. Like I said. It was utterly forgettable. BTW...not much to look at, that one.

Kristi Lee Cook...another brave one. Attempted Journey's "Faithfully". Started out very nice, then started to force a lot of notes, wrapping up with a horrible ending.

Ramiele...Phill Collins' "Take a look at me now". I thought it was great. She's good every week.

Brooke...Daring choice, taking on one of the all-time greats in Pat Benatar's "Love is a battlefield", accompanied only by a guitarist. She hit a home run, imho. It seems that she's the only woman who has "it" every week, picking the right song for her style and voice, sounding prepared, and showing her strengths.

Syesha...also tried a Whitney song. "Savin' all my love". It was good, but Asia'h's attempt was better.

I say bye-bye Kady and Amanda...but who knows.

I can say one thing...someone in this group of girls is gonna have to step up and get a lot better if they wanna be the next Kelly, Carrie, or Fantasia.

BTW, is it just me, or is there a trend by the judges this season to pretty much leave the performers alone in regard to how their voice actually sounded and instead just focus on style elements? It seems in the last coupla weeks they've been glossing over a lot of big misses on pretty important notes.

I thought Brooke was very good, as well as Asia'h. As for Amanda.... same ole, same ole. She and Kady need to go IMO. I think it's going to be a guy winning this this year, unless the girls can step it up. Like someone previously stated, they are definitely NOT a Kelly, Carrie, or Fantasia. I think Brooke is close though.

I cannot for the life of me understand why the all like Amanda. Syesha has an incredible voice but still hasn't picked that perfect song and had her perfect performance. I guess that's good for her though- the later the better to bust out.

Most of the girls were average tonight.

I want to kick Daniel Noriega in the neck. He's just annoying as hell, without regard to sexual orientation.

Danny Noriega is the only one making the show watchable (okay, maybe Brooke, too, for entirely different reasons). It's hilarious having him up there, as if John Waters were suddenly a contestant, although he definitely crosses the line into the gay version of minstrelsy. But it's worth it just to imagine the awkward silences and bitter cursing in red neck Christian households across America when he sings. Gold!

I'd like to kick David Cook in the neck. That smarmy smile and aping of Eddie Vedder and Chris Daughtry (who both suck in their own rights) begs for an *** kicking.

Tonight's vote is gonna be interesting.

I can't believe that Amanda is likely going to make it past tonight based on the glowing reviews she got last night. She is being rewarded for being a one-trick pony and for picking a sock that highlights her one trick. Everytime she tried to do something beyond that, she sucks. So the judges are basically saying, "Great job picking the only kind of song you can sing."

Uggh.

Another vote for Brooke... I seriously disagree with mandingo about Ramiele; she ******* sucks! She & Kady will be leaving tonight.

Ramiele ain't going anywhere. Not tonight.

Kady Malloy is likely leaving. Not sure on the second, although Kristy Lee Cook is stru-ga-ling

I'll tell you who is overated - that Irish chick Carly. She ain't that good.

Boys: Luke first, then Danny over Chikezie in the final two.
Girls: Kady first, then Asia'h over Kristy Lee in the final two.

Luke, Danny, Kady, Asia'h are done.

I also would like to see Amanda go. We were having a discussion at work today about song choices when they open the Lennon/Macca book. We all pretty much agreed the only things she could sing Beatles-wise and not butcher it are With A Little Help or She Came In Through The Bathroom Window a la Joe Cocker. Otherwise, I think I will mute the TV while she is on.

I loved Brooke's version of Love Is A Battlefield, and David Cook's Hello grew on me after a second listen. I loved Castro's Hallelujah - not as sad and desperate as the original, but kind of sad and hopeful instead. It bugged me last season when Chris Sligh sang She's Not There and made it sound fun and happy.

I loved when Sechrest asked Simon who he thought should stay - Asia'h or Kristy Lee Cook. "Oh, it doesn't matter. Ummm . . . Asia'h."

Genius.

When they start singing Lennon/McCartney songs, Amanda will probably do "Why Don't We Do It In The Road."

Glad Danny is gone.

I just want to interject.....Jason Castro.

I actually do thing I'll buy whatever he puts out, whether he wins or not.

From a friend of mine on another list:

Nigel Lythgoe, in an interview, has shared that they actually only got the Lennon-McCartney catalog from "A Hard Day's Night" to "Got To Get You Into My Life". This would mean that their later stuff is not on the list to be sung.

I found, on another website, the songs that would fit in this time period.

Here they are. What are your thoughts now?

Here is the song list, alphabetically:

Jason Castro - I'll Follow The Sun
Cheesy Chikizie - Got to Get You Into My Life (a la EW&F)
David Cook - maybe We Can Work It Out
Brooke - In My Life

Amanda??? - Maybe Drive My Car, but she really should sing I'm A Loser

Ohhhh - I just did not say that! :-O

Interesting. The finals have started ... and already a new intro and a new stage set.
