All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous

oilers fan... screw the Texas, biggest bums ever. What have they done to earn my loyalty other then some owner wanting to make a buck show up in my home town... they had the chance to earn the life time loyalty of a huge fan base and they passed it up.. tell me, how many people would of been die hard Oilers fans without Earl?

Ok, late to the party, but I can post on this one. Native Houstonian here. Oilers fan forever until Bud left. Then when Houston had no team I pulled for the Saints while Ricky was there anyway. Now we have the Texans, and I am very disappointed in their play. But I am pulling for the Texans. I would like to see Vince have a good game, but I want the home team to win. By the way, when they draft Williams instead of Vince or Reggie, I decided I would not buy season tickets. I am not a Carr fan, but I am a Texans fan.

You are not a big Longhorn football fan, or at least not nearly as big a fan as you apparently believe. I am going to take you through a step-by-step explanation because you've made it readily apparent you probably need one:

1.) The quarterback position is more associated with wins and losses than any other position on the field. This is fact. Hopefully you won't dispute this.
2.) Vince Young is closely associated with Longhorn football. He references Longhorn football frequently. Everybody that follows football knows he's a Longhorn. See reason #1 regarding factuality.
3.) Recruiting is the lifeblood of a college football program. See #1 and #2 regarding factuality.
4.) Based on #1-3, Vince Young's performance in the NFL will have an impact on future Longhorn football success.
5.) If your wish were to come true and Vince lost every game as a Titan, he would not last a season as a starter, he would be branded a bust, Longhorn football would be associated with a bust, and there would be no further opportunity for good publicity for Longhorn football via Vince Young.
6.) Based on #4 and #5, you are actively wishing for a result that will be detrimental to the success of Longhorn football.
7.) You are placing your loyalty to a business over your loyalty to a Longhorn football player and, by extension through the explanations above, Longhorn football. That is your choice and I will not begrudge you that choice. But it is patently absurd to suggest that you're as big a Longhorn football fan as anyone else here.
8.) You can't claim to hold Vince Young as your favorite NFL player while simultaneously hoping he loses every game. You are hoping his career is a bust. More absurdity.
9.) This is HornFans.com. Vince Young is a 'Horn. We are fans. Pretty simple, really.
10.) This has nothing to do with the fact that you're not a big Longhorn football fan, but your attitude regarding the Texans is why franchises continue to underperform. Continuing to support a team with a poor front office with your time and money is not
being a good fan. If everyone did what you do the Texans would have no motivation to improve. You are supporting a bad product and allowing them to remain profitable. As long as they remain profitable with a bad product they will continue to produce a bad product. Only by demanding improvement will improvement be achieved.

Finally, allow me to add this: He signed with Tennessee freakshow. Not that he grew up in Tennessee, and i am the idoit.

Seriously, how the **** can you not root for Vince Young and his team to do well?

The man practically willed our Longhorns to a national title...but now we are just supposed to move on because he no longer plays for us? I will always root for that man to succeed, regardless of the franchise that he plays for. I am beginning to wonder if you hate puppies and Jesus, too.

i've always had a passing interest in the Titans and I was going to be a fan of whatever team drafted Vince , luckily it was the Titans. If he signs with another team then I will be a fan of that team, football is about the players not about some arbitrary place you happened to be born in. Also the Texans suck and frankly houston is a crappy city.

Maybe if Austin had a team......

VY is the first transcendant Horn since EC. I live in Houston and am a marginal fan of the Texans and never gave a thought to the Titans before the draft. However, just as Vince's name was read by Tagliabue I turned to my wife and said I'm now a Titans fan. Not only does Vince have "it" for the players and coaches, he has "it" for the fans. I feel compelled to watch him and root for him wherever he goes.

Well 4 TD's in an NFL game against any opponent is quite amazing regardless of the yardage gained.
Oh and this would be spectacular even against a team as crappy as the Texans......

Huckleberry,

The initial insult was unnecessary and uncalled for.

1. As to QBs yes.
2. VY is closely associated with Longhorn football this season because he is a rookie and he won the NC last season that will fade as the years pass. Tell me the first thing you think of when you hear the name "Tom Brady" is "Michigan Wolverine football."
3. Yes recruiting is the lifeblood of any college football program.
4. The Longhorn football team's performance on the football field determines future LOnghorn football success.
5. I suppose I said that I hoped the Titans would lose every game out of frustration at the rapid growth of Titan bandwagondom on this board allow me to amend this to I hope his team does fine wins alot of games and loses twice every year to the Texans.
7. The NFL franchises are meant to represent cities in the United States for example the "Houston" Texans or the "Seattle" Seahawks etc. I am from Houston. College football is not a business?

#10 shows quite plainly you have no idea what it means to be a sports fan.

You have no idea how big or small of a Longhorn fan I am and I certainly do not respect your belief that you can inform me as to how much of a Longhorn fan I am.

You don't know me and I don't know you we have never met and judging from the tone of your post to me that's a fact I'm grateful for.

Another difference between loyalty to a college team and a pro team is that usually the colleges are made up of players from that area. The college game is more tribal and visceral for that reason. The honor of your home state -- or even your little section of your state -- is upheld or crushed every time your team loses.

The NFL is a business, pure and simple, and the players come from all over. Not even the owner of the Texans is from Houston -- and all the Houstonians they have brought in here have been aggy. I mean, ****, Aaron Glenn did a Horns-down when he was introduced at their very first game. Then they hire an ag coach who turns his nose up at the best player UT has ever produced, one who happened to play a position of need for the Texans, and grew up about two miles from their home stadium.

The Texans have always seemed to go out of their way to insult that part of Texas that is not aggy -- by which I mean the sane, intelligent, sheep-neutral segment of the population. And it will be their ruin for a decade to come.

Cowboy fan since 1963. Watched every minute of the 1-15 year. Only time i have ever pulled against the Cowboys was when they played Vince.

Before the draft I emailed anyone I could that I would be a Texan fan 1st and Cowboy fan 2nd if the Texans would draft Vince.

They didn't. **** the Texans.

i'm with the original poster. i am forever grateful for Vince, but I rep H-Town to the fullest.

Rockets, Longhorns, Astros, Texans. In that order. The Titans will never have a place on that list for me, no matter who plays for them.

Cowboy fan here (for NFL); I cannot get enough of the Titans, and even got to go to a game in Nashville--Ravens game where kicker missed winning FG, or else we'd be talking playoffs. The Texans will never live down passing on Vince, and there is no excuse for it that will ever satisfy me.

Vince fanhood originates in Longhorn fanhood, but by no means is limited that way. Vince is a social force, and I want to be in harmony with it.
