Ags Piggies make it official

They get Georgia at home in 2009? Hell, that schedule is no tougher than what Texas faced in '98 (recent MNC or MNC contenders #7 NU, #6 UCLA and # 5 KSU on the road, and #6 TAMU at home).

I'm getting all weepy hearing over and over again about Arkansas' tough schedule. I hope the Hog and Ags exchange lots of hugs in the stands about how tough it is to be mediocre in a good conference.

Then strap it on for the I-30 Hugout Slapfight.

Wooooo Pig! Whoop!

Considering you have lost your last two to Aggie and 3 of your last 4 against the "Pigs", to include home losses in both cases, I would hardly consider this to be a point in your history where you can laugh.

But, hey, I'm not an elitist with a time share next to the Alamo and Holiday Bowls so what do I know?

Oh, and just for schits and giggles, you have managed to lose 6 of your last 8 to OU.

So, 6 of 8 to OU, 3 of 4 to Arkansas, and 2 straight to A&M.

Yeah, I might be a little up tight too.......

Just havin' a little fun, relax!

When was your last conference championship or national championship?

Conf. Titles:

A&M: 1998
Ark: 1989
Texas: 2005

You can point to your BCS Bowls and no one can argue with that. As a matter of fact, no one denied their worth.

But, if you are going to try and undermine 2 of the 3 teams that you love to hate, you can expect some numbers to be tossed back at you.

You have lost 6 of your last 8 to OU, 2 straight to Aggie, and 3 of 4 to Arkansas. Now you can come back at me with how wonderful Villa Muse Studios will be to the Austin economy or how much you love shopping at The Domain but none of that, none of it, has anything to do with the topic at hand.

You want to make fun of the new series? I'm reminding you that
you of all teams have no place to talk based on your recent results against the said teams.

As long as we are arbitrarily picking favorable series records for our schools, I choose this one:

Texas-Arkansas Series Scoreboard since 1982: Texas leads, 8-5

1982: UT 33 Ark 7 (at Austin)
1983: UT 31 Ark 3 (at Little Rock)
1984: UT 24 Ark 18 (at Austin)
1985: UT 15 Ark 13 (at Fayetteville)
1986: Ark 21 UT 14 (at Austin)
1987: UT 16 Ark 14 (at Little Rock)
1988: Ark 27 UT 24 (at Austin)
1989: UT 24 Ark 20 (at Fayetteville)
1990: UT 49 Ark 17 (at Austin)
1991: Ark 14 UT 13 (at Little Rock)
2000: Ark 27 UT 6 (at Dallas, Cotton Bowl)
2003: Ark 38 UT 28 (at Austin)
2004: UT 22 Ark 20 (at Fayetteville)

Congrats on the last 3 of 4. I'm glad you feel so good about that. I happen to feel good about our 13-0 National Championship season in 2005. To each his own. I'm glad we have the latter than the former.

I'm going to defend whocares and say he's raising valid points. But you ain't gonna win this pissing match. Stick around though, we've got aggies and sooners on these boards, but not many Hogs.

Everyone on this board knows the in's and out's of Texas records against OU, A&M, and Arkansas. They are easy to verify facts that can't be disputed or questioned.
What I have done is question something that can be questioned. I have questioned a mind set. What is it that Texas has accomplished in recent history against OU, Aggie, and Arkansas that would lead to arrogance? Aggie, the lowly 3rd tier step child of Texas, has beat you twice now. Once in Austin. OU has owned you since the turn of the Century and you haven't consistently beaten Arkansas since the 80's.

So, why the arrogance NOW
?

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Texas football. I just do not see the basis for the arrogance in light of recent history.

As for the Texas-OU series, we have won 2 of the last 3. And I choose to look at the series since 1989, where the Horns hold a 10-8-1 series advantage.

Besides winning 6 of the last 8 vs. A&M, we are also 9-4 against them since 1995.

In all seriousness, the Arkansas-A&M series will probably have some entertaining games. You all wanted a game in Texas each year and A&M wanted more exposure in the DFW area. So it was a win-win for both schools. With both schools coming in with new head coaches, it should be a good first game in '09. I wish you luck since I dislike your team less than A&M.

As for the original debate, whenever UT and Arkansas square off again in Fayetteville, be it 2014 or whenever, it should be a good game. I went to the game in '04 and it was a fun game. My mom came along too. She hadn't been to a UT game in Fayetteville since her senior year at UT in 1969 when she road a bus all night from Austin to watch the Horns win the National Championship in the Big Shootout. So I for one know the historical significance of the UT-Arkansas series. In the 60s Arkansas was at least on the same level as OU as far as being a rival with UT. Since Arkansas went to the SEC, it's a shame the history had to die. UT and Arkansas played the first time in 1894. I think this latest home-and-home series may be the last one for a while between the Horns and Hogs. Should be a good game this September in Austin and I like our chances. We should win, especially since you guys don't have McFadden any more. I hope we don't overlook you like we seemed to do in '03 and Matt Jones went off. May the best team win. You should make the trip to Austin and see the game with UT's new end zone renovations. There should be 95,000+ in the house... should be a great atmosphere! Whenever the return trip to Arkansas happens, I'm sure I will make the trek again. I hardly ever miss a game, home or away. Have a good day.

Texas Ex....

I came down to Austin in 03 for our match up. I fell in love with the city and moved down here this past September with my wife. We are still Razorback season ticket holders and made the 1,000 mile round trip 8 times last fall. We will do the same this year and will be at the game in September for sure.

I don't mind having civil discourse but when my best laid attempts are met with non stop strawman arguments and insults, it makes posting an exercise in frustration.

Since I graduated from UT in May 2002, the Horns are 54-10 in 64 games played. Plus we won our first National Championship in 35 years. I guess that's why I feel good right now. We have won at least 10 games in every season since 2000. We have also won 6 of our last 7 bowl games. For these reasons I am happy.

But is everything rosy? No, not by a long shot. Do I wish we had more conference championships? Certainly. Am I pissed A&M beat us the last 2 seasons, that OU beat us last year and won 5 straight from 2000-2004, and that we lost 3 straight to Arkansas before winning in '04 (although the 14-13 setback in '91 doesn't bother me too much because I was 12 then, but actually attended the '00 Cotton Bowl game and the '03 home game defeat)? You bet.

In sum, I think our program has certainly done well since Mack Brown's arrival in 1998. I remember the 4-7 '97 campaign all too well. I do think we lack some consistency and toughness at times. I'm hoping the additions of Muschamp and Applewhite to the coaching staff will yield a stronger attitude and more wins in the '08 season. I'm hopeful that we will win the Big 12 this season with a shot at something more. I want us back in the BCS. I'm not sold that we will do it though, although I feel we have the talent to do so. I'll just have to wait and see.

For the record, I still think Arkansas should just play the originally scheduled game with UT in '09 at Fayetteville, even with the addition of A&M to their schedule. As I have said before, if I were an Arkansas fan, I would think my team had more to gain by playing a tough opponent to make the team better prepared for conference play (a la 2005 UT game at Ohio State). That's just my opinion and for what it's worth, I understand your point that some Arkansas fans and the administration feel it may be too much for one season. I will simply agree to disagree with that rationale.

Take care,

whocares,

You should stick around... lots of good natured debate on this board. You'll see your share of people talking smack, but it's all in good fun. There have been some Ohio State fans that have hung around since talking with us about the much anticipated match up in '05.

I'm jealous you're in Austin. I actually moved away in '04 to Houston and now have wound up in the Dallas area. I'm going to graduate school at UNT in Denton. My fiance lives in Plano and we go to church there. Our head pastor is an Arkansas grad... he's even called the Hogs before during a service when one of the high school kids announced he was going to Arkansas that fall! Made me want to

Anyway... they won't ban you, don't worry about that. As long as you don't personally attack anyone, you're fine. Take care and Hook 'em!

I have never bragged on playing Ole Miss. I have stated the game will be HUGE for Arkansas.

Any time you face an old coach in his new house, especially a coach the fan base HATES, the game is big.

The "Clash of the Trash" is a great game for the Hog fans. They love Dallas and Jerry Jones is, of course, one of theirs. The Ags think they are getting a marquee game that will help their collegiate stature. This game will help Arkansas' Texas recruiting, but I don't think it will do much for A&M. I think ultimately the Hogs and theirs fans are the only ones who benefit in a significant way.

I would be a lot more impressed with aggy if they had the cojones to set up an annual game with LSU in Houston, rather than piggy in Dallas. aggy needs a rivalry game with someone outside of the Big 12 that is distinctly theirs. Them and LSU have history already, and an aggy/LSU HOUSTON series would be the biggest college game down there every year.

I'm not fond of giving either piggy or LSU more of a recruiting edge in Texas, but because of the Texas/blow-u game, aggy/piggy will likely be not much more than the b-team game in Big-D. aggy could have done better by heading down Hiway 6 every year to play the Tigers.

Kadabra - It's Wofford, of course. Where have you been?

Arky is a big rival, regardless of the Aggies' new deal. OU was out of conference until 1996. We really haven't established a new OOC rivalry since, except perhaps with the Buckeyes. I don't think we'll schedule one specific OOC team on a yearly basis unless the MNC formula changes.

I think you're right 'Cuse, because I'm not really sure who's close enough to be a big natural OOC rival for Texas. You could say LSU, and yeah, it would be fun to play those guys regularly, but for the same reason I'm not crazy about aggy/piggy, I wouldn't want us giving the Tigers any more of a recruiting advantage here than they already have.

I also agree that until the BCS goes away, or changes drastically, or until Deloss departs, we're not prone to take too many chances with the OOC scheduling.

aggy's series with arky eliminates them as a long term OOC rival for us, so if there were any changes toward something permanent, it would probably have to be either with somebody else out of the SEC (Tennessee?) or maybe someone like Arizona State. I can't see us regularly playing anyone out of the Big 10. Suggestions from anybody else?
