Ags Piggies make it official

Mandingo, I'm with you in your argument, but there is no way and mail heterosexual should complain about an away game at Ole Miss. I can't wait for the Horns to play there. Carry on.

And El Sapo, that is about the funniest thing I have read in a long time. I second the

I listed every school, not just Ole Miss.

I would hardly consider Ole Miss a threat but it is an away game and it is a trip to face our coach of 9 years.

If Mack went to Baylor you may consider that an away game of note too.

Once again you have tried to discount away or neutral games that include Bama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, and Aggie by pointing to the weakest of the bunch.

Pretty lame.

Bama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, and Aggy.

Bama- historic program, hasn't been to a BCS game in almost 10 years. That is like playing Nebraska.

Florida and LSU- recent MNCs, perennial top 10 teams. That's like playing Texas and OU.

Georgia- recent top 5 team, same as KU (maybe you like Mizzou as a better example).

Aggy- the B12 has a team just like them. We call it...Aggy.

So basically, Arkansas is looking at a schedule in 2009 much like what TT gets that year. And you know what? They're not even complaining.

To summarize:

Arkansas has a hard schedule and their new coach didn't want to make it harder. Is that it?

I don't think this makes the Piggies cowards, it just makes scumbag Petrino a coward. Who, by the way, is by all accounts a son of a *****.

Taylor, Saban just inked the #1 recruiting class in America.

Look, nothing I do short of stroking Vince Young's manhood will change an opinion on this board. I simply wanted to clarify
why Texas was dropped.

If you can somehow minimize playing at Georgia (More than likely the preseason #1 this year), at Bama, at Ole Miss, at Florida, and at LSU, well, congrats. You go play those 5 road games, plus a neutral with Aggie. Then face Spurrier, Tuberville, Croom, a directional school, and Texas at home.

Yeah, that is reasonable and happens all the time...........

You are correct. I repeated the schedule because you attempted to compare it to a Big 12 schedule. I thought repeating it might help. Can you tell me when Texas has ever or will ever travel to opponents the caliber of Georgia, Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss in one season? Yes, Ole Miss is the weak link but it would be much like traveling to face Mack. The game holds tremendous weight.

Additionally, on top of a directional school, Spurriers Gamecocks, Miss. St, AND
an additional TWO MAJOR
OOC opponents (Texas, A&M)?

You can't do it.

If you want to see Texas play that schedule you might want to go buy an XBox because it will never happen. Hell, it will not even happen for Arkansas now becuase the Athletic Department finally came back down to planet earth.

After taking a look at an Arky board (Hogville.net), many of them seem to think the piggies should "grow a nutsack" and just play the damn game.
The Link

So not all Arky fans are gutless, it seems.

I personally never said I didn't want to play the game. I said the opposite.

I'm just explaining the reasoning behind the Athletic Department dropping it. It was a wise decision, regardless of the opinions of the fan base.

I understand why the Arkansas athletic dept. decided to postpone the game. But if I were an Arkansas fan, I would be disappointed. It makes your team look like they are afraid of playing with the big boys. Like one of your own said on Hogville.net, if you want to be one of the the big boys, you need to play a big time schedule.

I happen to think the win for the Horns in '05 at Ohio State served as a springboard to a serious run at the National Championship. Could we have played New Mexico State, North Texas, or Arkansas State at home that weekend instead? Probably. Would we have been as tough going into conference play? Probably not as much. I happen to think Arkansas should have the cajones to play the game in '09 as it was initially scheduled.

I am in the camp of wanting UT to schedule a marquee OOC opponent every year for this reason. I was at both the Ohio State games, home and away. That is what college football is all about. Not slapping around ULaLa, UNT, Arkansas State, and New Mexico State on a rotating basis. If I could schedule games we would play an Ohio State type of team at least once a year in the OOC schedule. If you want to compete for the National title, you have to run with the big dogs and back down from no one.

I'll get off of my soapbox now.

You know, there is a logical fallacy keeping UT from pointing out a past schedule as difficult as the Hogs have- if we won the games, the teams aren't as highly ranked.

Last year, LSU finished #1, UGA #2, and Florida #13 (Ol' Miss was unranked and has no reason to be in this discussion).

In 1983, Texas played at Auburn (finished #3), at SMU (finished #12), at Dalla for OU (finished UR) and at Arkansas (finished UR). That schedule would look a lot tougher, except for one thing- we won all of the games. If we had lost them, Auburn would have the MNC, SMU would be top 5, and OU and Arkansas would have been ranked.

If we would have lost the road games against tOSU, OU, and Mizzou in '05, that schedule would have looked a lot more impressive.

Mandingo, you keep missing the point. Arkansas plays 4 road games that are tougher than any team would ever want to take on. Any team. Ever. Georgia, LSU, Florida, and Bama are a tall, tall order.

Then there is the away game at Ole Miss. Again, you are missing the point. Does Ole Miss blow? They did under their previous coach. Now they have Houston Nutt. Nutt is no Bear Bryant but he damn sure handed you your *** in the Cotton Bowl and in Austin. If you think bad blood will not be overflowing during the week leading to Ole Miss, you are sadly mistaken. That is a BIG game. Discount it if you wish.

Then there is still home games, a neutral against Aggie (who I believe has had your number recently) and you want to toss another MAJOR ooc game in the mix? Come on. Get real. The AD made a wise decision.

Taylor, you mentioned 4 road games Texas played in 1983. Now add an additional big time conference away game, an additional MAJOR OOC neutral game, and make sure an equal to Tommy Tuberville and Steve Spurrier meet you at home.

It is one thing to boast and say "You have to play the big boys to be considered a big boy". It's quite another to have a schedule that is absolutely ridiculous.

Actually, I got that point. It's just that I, like everyone else here, am not buying it.

Continuing to say a road game against a 3-9 team is a tough game just because it's big for y'all doesn't mean your sched is tougher because of it. It just doesn't.

No matter how many times you say it.

...and yes, the 7-6 aggy team you're gonna play has had our number the last coupla years. That doesn't make your neutral site matchup with them "major".

No matter how many times you try to beat us over the head with it.

Care to quote me where I said A&M is insignificant on your schedule?

No one team on the 2009 Arkansas schedule in and of itself requires "panic". You have to look at the whole picture.

Away at Georgia
Away at LSU
Away at Florida
Away at Bama
Away at Ole Miss

In regards to Bama and Ole Piss, Saban has the #1 recruiting class after one year. Bama will be more than a handful in 2009. As for Ole Miss, if you do not assume the hype and bad blood between Nutt and the Hogs is significant, you are mistaken

Then.......

Home against Spurrier and the cocks
Home against Tuberville and Auburn
Home against Miss. St.
Home against a directional

and then.............

You think Texas isn't overkill? That is a video game schedule. Someone had to go and it wasn't going to be the 5 Million dollar game

Get real.

Bottom line on the inbred cider sucking hillbillies is that they have been great for us. Over the years we have manhandled them like a Baylor or Rice, and we used to get a lot of good publicity out of that.

When they bolted the SWC, the result was that we now get to play in a much better league than the old SWC.

We should send Frank Broyles and Inbred U. a thank you note for what they have done for our program.

And we should also thank piggy asst. coach Don Breaux for calling a pass play on the goal line with a 6 point lead in the Big Shootout. Genius.

Instead of arguing with a piggy , I'm going to get to the real issue at hand.
Why did Deloss let piggy back out of a contract that we have had for 5 or 6 years (?), especially when the reason for the "postponement" gives them a platform for recruiting Texas talent. And don't forget how they show our fans real
Arkansas hospitality when we do play there. He should have said this:
"HELL NO!!!
rant.gif
You honor the contract you signed or you can say goodbye to any chance of playing Texas ever again. Of course, we're playing you in September no matter what. WE'RE TEXAS!!!
texasflag.gif
We don't play second fiddle to A&M or anybody else!!! Y'all have fun screwing your cousins and farm animals, you'll fit right in with those Aggies. Hook 'Em."
