Aggy got hosed......

announcers said it was an offensive foul?(they sounded shocked there were no ft allowed)

Poor FT shooting and sloppy ball handling lost that game

the offensive foul call was hilarious. no one had the ball and it was going to the sideline when the foul occurred. if that isn't a loose ball foul, i'm not sure what is.

a couple of weeks ago, i didn't care one way or the other about ucla and the game we played versus them may have been the only time i watched them all year. but then that stanford call happened and i kinda got mad that they got away with it. and then the cal game happened where they were intentionally trying to foul a guy and the refs not only didn't call the foul, but gave the ball out of bounds to ucla. and then they allowed a shot over the backboard, which is illegal, to count and i started to hate ucla for seemingly stealing games (i think this was back when we had a shot at a #1 seed).

anyway, i didn't see much of the first 30 minutes of this game and people are saying a&m got calls then, but i watched the last 10 minutes and kevin love was basically allowed to maul anyone he wanted to at will. swinging at blocks as hard as possible, bodying people up on layups. ucla couldn't get called for anything unless it was just obvious. add in the crazy offensive foul call and it was amazing. and then the coup de gras with that last play. most teams at least are a little afraid of getting a foul called and don't play super-aggressive D, but ucla, seemingly knowing they are invincible, just slaps at the ball as hard as they can, come up with nothing but wrist and knock the ball 20 feet backwards and get to win. it's getting ridiculous what they are allowed to get away with at the end of games.

even at the peak of their powers, i'm not sure Duke ever even got these calls.

for the people saying "can you make that call?" uhh, how can you not? if you slightly bump someone at the end of the game, maybe not. if you slap them on the wrist as hard as possible and give them no shot, it takes a coward of an official to not make the call. and that's exactly what those officials are, a bunch of cowards who couldn't stand up to a partisan ucla crowd and make an obvious call. the calls were making me hate ucla so much i was actually rooting for aggy! and that is just not right.

as for questioning the aggie's decision making? he had about an 8 foot floater to tie it. why should he have to pull up from 16 or 17 just b/c the refs will let him be assaulted with no call? how is that a problem he created?

i don't think anyone on here disagreed it was a foul. it was clearly a foul as the play was live. aggy got screwed hard.

fact is.... aggy earned it with there ******* plays this season.

still aint right, but if its gonna happen to anybody, let it be the fightin Texas a&m aggies.

What ******* plays are you talking about? Other than the Baylor slam, I can't think of a single crappy thing we did. We are known as a physical team, but not dirty or cheap.

And Baylor got what they deserved. They were cussing and spitting on our players as they came out of the tunnel, they were throwing crap onto the court, and taunting them with NIT chants the entire game.

Maybe Sloan should have had thicker skin, but it wasn't an unwarranted act by any stretch.

In a big game, especially on the last shot, or in the last few seconds, refs do not want to be the deciding factor. They are going to tend to avoid making calls at that time if at all possible. You can clearly see it was a foul in still photos, but the refs did not have that viewpoint, and it wasn't that obvious to them.
So it should have been a foul, but is not surprising to be a no-call. I don't think this will be the last time in the tournament we will see no-calls in that situation.

what sinless said . . .

groids were up 10 with ten minutes left, and according to what I think I heard from the announce crew, they went like seven minutes without a field goal.

I can't see how you blame that on a ref.

It sits well with me - - fook'em

Officiating has been terribly inconsistent in (within) many games. When it comes to charges/blocks, officials may as well stop play and toss a coin. And post defense has been called erratically. At times they allow lower body contact when blocking shots; at others they don't. I thought the officiating in the K St./Wisc. game was equally as poor. I'm not arguing the officiating is biased or benefits one team over the other, just that it is not as good as it should be.

Blueag weren't you guys about to run him out of town on a rail just two weeks ago? Now all of a sudden he's a unanimous "A-B+" grade?

I don't care what the officials called. If you only score 5 points in the last ten minutes, you don't seserve to win. Also, UCLA had 16 PF -- A&M had 15. The last call may have been bad, but the rest of the game was even.

Oh, and while we are on the Karma list for A&M -- Don't forget the FT's at the end of the KSU game last week.

I never wanted him fired, though there may have been others who did. I think they were upset by the mediocre conference play (8-8, including home losses to OSU and NU and the 64-37 debacle at OU). A coach should always be evaluated at the end of the season. Besides, he shouldn't be blamed for the team's upsetting performance, since there really was no true PG. The team was overrated since the beginning, as Turgeon had said. Even with no PG, he could still compile a 25-win record, which ties the record for the most wins by a first-year head coach at a Big 12 school (set by Tom Penders in 88-89) The team's Big 12 and NCAA tournament play exceeded my expectations, and it did exceed the others' too.

Not much of an A&M fan myself, but if the same thing had happened to us, this board would be in an absolute uproar.

Not only was the guy fouled, that picture from the front shows that he was being fouled by 2 UCLA players.

A&M played really well. I was torn as to whether I wanted them to win, but the way the last play went was absolutely tragic.
