9/15/2024 AP Poll Texas #1

I was rummaging through some old stuff in my garage this morning and found a 1963 edition of the Fort Worth Press. I looked at the sports pages and found the weekly college football rankings. Tap the image to enlarge. IMG_0166.jpeg

I lost two friends, and a two more had their lives changed forever emotionally. Writer Robert Heard would tell you that having his shoulder taken off by that bullet is why he was an alcoholic. It was a tragedy of epic proportions, but we are talking about apples & hubcaps.

I stand by my post, hoping there are NO MORE posts on this subject.
I remember that horrible day in 1966, vividly. I was at a men’s clothing store in Allendale, listening on the radio.

We found out later that the daughter of one of my parents good friends, Claudia Rutt, a beautiful coed, was one of the victims. Her family was never the same, and the burden that her surviving sister has had to carry for her entire life has probably been unimaginable.

On a much more positive note, I believe that we have entered a Golden Era in Texas Longhorn football. Although we didn’t know the time, the hiring of Steve Sarkisian is proving to be a stroke of genius.

I don’t believe any other college HC is as well prepared to deal with the realities of the game today like Sark. I’m talking about culture, I’m talking about NIL, recruiting, and the portal. Simply, he’s a near savant at navigating the new reality that is college football. And, he has the benefits of Austin, Texas, and a high caliber, wealthy university and alumnus behind him.

Unless something unexpected happens I expect for this program to be at or near the top of the heap for a solid decade.

Good post and I also appreciate how Sark conducts himself. I think he comes across as thoughtful and respectful, articulate, a good communicator and deeply knowledgeable, certainly on the offensive side. We were fortunate to land him and I didn't expect that when he was hired to be honest.

I believe it is on SEC Network, which is part of ESPN sports package.
SH, I hope you’re right about the SEC network. With Arch starting, the national interest will be substantial. My buddy in Austin, who doesn’t have access to ESPN + (like most of us), has been researching it.

What I do know is that Fozzy Whittaker will be the color analyst on the telecast. Not sure who’s doing the play-by-play.

I pay ESPN $5.98 a month for something, which may be how I get ESPN+ or that could be the HS games I get to watch live

I believe it is on ESPN+ and SEC+. Typically I get these types of games through the ESPN app on my phone. You hit the watch button and sign in with your TV subscriber and you get the game. Then I share my phone screen with my TV.

Thanks. I’m in Mexico and unless you’re using a pirated app, it’s hard to get anything down here with one exception. Sling TV. I checked, and Sling does carry the SEC + network.

I’m at my place on the coast of Alabama. I’m getting lots of interaction wearing my Horns cap. Truly glorious right now with the Horns being #1 the first year in the SEC.

Up for antibiotic dosage.

ULM game is on ESPN +. Any place to watch it on free TV?

So, I'm a tech novice, especially all the TV viewing options.

However, I bought a Roku kit today and installed it on a "not smart" TV, in a bedroom. I installed it and set up an account in about 20 minutes on my phone.

Goal set up ESPN+ streaming and watch UT - ULM game on Sat.!!

After installation, I even scrolled forward to see a tab for the game on Sat. I think I'm good to go.

If I can do it, you can do it!!

My technically challenged best friend in Austin figured out that his Disney package — purchase for the grandkids — appears to have ESPN + and the SEC network +. Or maybe he figured that he had Hulu. So after quite a bit of hand wringing, I think he’s set.

BTW:

Veteran announcer Lowell Galindo, who was part of the recently defunct Longhorn Network from 2011 to 2024, will call the action. Former TexasLonghorn and NFL running back Fozzy Whitaker will provide analysis, bringing his energy and expertise to the booth.

Anyone know the network / kickoff time for Miss St next week?

We are the ESPN option game, which means we will be on an ESPN channel (not plus) at either 230 or 330. OU/Auburn and Arkansas/aTm are other two games for that time. No good morning games. I'm hoping for 330, but pretty sure we'll get 230.

Duke,

Log onto ESPN.com, then click "watch", it will give you 30-40 games available. Click on one you want to view.
