2025 Recruiting - Football

Since we aren't allowed to meet these kids, never been in their homes or visited their schools, we cannot possibly know the mindset and/or personality of the kids. It ain't like my visit to Sealy, when I called Fred and told him to get someone else to go, I couldn't stand the kid, and his mother was worse.

That said, I have to trust Sark that the kid and his family "fit". I am much more comfortable with Sark than I ever was with Strong or Herman.

That kid from Sealy went on to break Earls SWC records and finished 3rd in Heisman.
Yes, and he was the "poster boy" for my recruiting letter to several HS recruits. I actually had an opposing coach call my secretary and ask her to send the "Dickerson letter" to a top RB recruit.

All the letter did was point out that

1) SMU was the only undefeated team in the nation and still couldn't get a #1 rating

2) He was likely the best college RB in America and couldn't win the Hype$man because nobody cared about his school.

His college "coach" responded by being the first school to purchase a home for the mother of a RB. (Also got mom a new job making three times what she was making.)

Long story short - you can’t fix stupid.

I expect that loyalties to a program/university will continue to fade for many players as the money takes over, especially for those who grew up poor.
I suspect Sark’s “culture fit” criteria is mostly used to weed out stupid players that aren’t worth the trouble.

Dickerson said Texas told him if he didn’t become a Longhorn he would never get a job in Texas.

Has he ever had a job outside the NFL?

Only one person from our camp that I know that talked to him or his mother long enough to get that sentence out never told any of us he said that, but then I wouldn't listen to him long enough for him to say that. Only player I despised more than Bosworth.

Wish someone would post the video of either Sendlein or Holle planting his *** on the turf of Texas Stadium. Of course, Bill Began flagged us for a legal hit, but that also got his *** shipped out of the SWC.

I’m not aware of the *******’s employment history, but I would be somewhat surprised if he needed to work anymore. I was just wondering if the claim were true. I’m still pissed over the game at DKR when the got the lucky bounce off our DB.

Some of our fans, including a reporter accused them of running up the score, but while I hate to admit it, I thought the dump pass over the middle to James (talking about another totally unlikable person) was a genius call.

Our "secret weapon" back then was a really likable guy that could get any black recruit to talk candidly to him. He said Dickerson wasn't as brazen as Ron Morris because he was focused on just a few schools.

Quotes from LB target Kellen Wiley, Jr. of Seffner, FL after his visit to Texas (IT):

“It was surreal,” Wiley said. “All in all, it went great. They really impressed me. Really met expectations. When we got there, we went straight into meetings. We got to see how the coaches and players interact, how they watched film together. That was a really big part because I’ve never experienced that."

“They play a lot of freshmen,”
Wiley said. “They have a freshman they called Hurricane (Tyanthony Smith) that had a one-handed pick. That really stood out to me that they play so many freshmen. Watching the Undertaker, they had me interacting with him. That was a big part of it as well.”

“The players were telling me how Coach Sark tells the truth,”
said Wiley. “Then coach (Johnny) Nansen and coach PK (Pete Kwiatkowski), they are really great people. My family and I had a chance to sit down with a couple players. CJ Baxter, David (Gbenda), Mo (Morice Blackwell).”

“Texas kind of came on late, but after this visit, they’ve climbed into my top 5,”
said Wiley.

@cnb getting us back on track…

Update on WR Jaime Ffrench from IT...

They feel Florida is now a genuine threat, and Nahlin has him eventually picking Florida.

He went on the official visit with his high school QB, Tramell Jones, who recently de-committed from FSU and will likely sign with Florida.

This would be unfortunate, but if it means a more prominent role for Ryan Wingo, I am good with that!

This one will be interesting.

Some consideration should be given to the "vote of confidence" that Napier got and the fact that he will be around next year, and with the market being what it is, probably 2-3 more.

Here is what WR Jaime Ffrench told Florida's 247 site today:

"I'm locked with Texas," he said. "I really like Texas. I'm just re-checking things with the local schools. I feel like it's a need for sure."

"I'd say I'm locked right now with Texas,"
he said. "Just going to re-evaluate things with my family. As of right now I'm locked with my family and Texas."

Florida's On3 site had a small note on DT Joseph Mbatchou of Loganville, GA.

They were told his list of top schools changes all the time, but the only consistent school is Texas.

honestly, I'm ok with this. I wish the Texas high schoolers all did this. I'm on the record not liking our top Texans leaving the state. I guess I need to be consistent. lol I hope he stays with us though.

Most, if not all, of the stars on the current defense are Texan.

If Ffrench leaves it would be disappointing, but its much easier to replace a quality wide receiver than to replace a defensive tackle or offensive lineman. Given our existing inventory of receivers, I am WAY more concerned with how we conclude our recruitment of OL's and DT's.

You win the highlight wars with your RB's and WR's. You win championships with your Interior Linemen and QB's,

IT had a brief note on WR Jaime Ffrench this morning saying he talked to Coach Jackson for over an hour after his Florida visit.

They believe his heart is with Texas, but the staff has a fight on its hands in these next two weeks leading up to the early signing period.
