2024 Texas Rangers

6-0 Rangers win Sat.!! Two in a row for the first time in a long while. Was hitting the little white ball and melting in the heat.

I think I saw that Langford had a grand slam!? Will have to catch some sports later.

Rangers on a three game win streak after the win today and have Scherzer slated to get the start Sunday afternoon. The last three games have provided some reasons for bubbling optimism after the blown game against the Mets earlier this week that really felt like the drive off the cliff moment for the season. Langford with a couple of home runs since then, Eovaldi was strong last night and Gray with a strong outing today, and of course Jung apparently getting close to being back. Seattle has cooled slightly leaving the Rangers sitting seven and a half games back. Houston has awakened also and has its own 4 game win streak going to sit a 1/2 game up on Texas and seven back of the Mariners. No matter how bad they look in the first half of the season, Houston is never dead in the regular season until you cut off the head, split the body into 10 parts and burn each one individually. We will officially pass the half way mark this week as game 81 is almost upon us and the All Star game in Arlington is just a few weeks away.

Signs of life for the offense! Hope it continues - and let's see how the bullpen improves when the injured starting pitchers come back.

Rangers win 4-0 on Sunday as Scherzer is dominant in his debut getting 15 of the 16 batters he faces out on less than 60 pitches. Urena gets a 4 inning save. Rangers equal their best win streak of the season at four wins and sit 6 1/2 back of Seattle now, still 1/2 game back of the Astros.

Jung is taking BP Tuesday and could be back really soon. Maybe that Mets game Tuesday was the wake up call and not the drive of the cliff moment I thought it was. Let’s hope so.:texasflag:

Hello win column!!! A much needed SWEEP and 4 wins in a row. Plus terrific return by Max!!!

Rangers travel to lovely Milwaukee against 1st place NL Central Brewers.

Let's hope Lorenzen keeps the momentum going Monday!

It's nice to get the momentum going in a positive direction. Now would be an excellent time to roll off three more in a row - well, at least win the series from the Brewers.

Tues. Rangers grind to a 3-1 loss vs. Brewers. Not motivated to outline the loss today ...lost 2 of 3 so far..

After being the ultimate Road Warriors in the playoffs last year, the Rangers road record this season is 17-23 and their era and batting averages on the road are well above and well below their Globe Life numbers.

Rangers get swept in Milwaukee and now head to Baltimore where they will pass the mid-way point of the season below .500 just how much below is still in question. In fact, anything less than a 4 game split will see Texas 7 games or more below .500 and sinking rapidly. All of this as Houston rides a 7-game-win streak having gotten to .500 and within clear striking distance of Seattle. It is hard not to see the Astros ultimately winning the AL West despite their just awful first two and a half months.

I’m an Astros fan and I hope this is the case but I just don’t see it. The starting rotation is still decimated by injuries and I just don’t see the mariners cratering in the 2nd half. I think the Astros and Rangers best chance is to pass enough teams in the standings to qualify as a wild card.

I think you're right on the WC comment. Astros are 3 games back on the last WC spot but 4.5 back of Seattle. Passing KC and Boston should be a lot easier than passing Seattle over the next half+ season. Rangers are going the wrong direction sitting 6 games back of that last WC spot.

The remaining hurt pitchers returning will help, but the Rangers need Jung back to solidify the batting order

Tonight was game 81 and the Rangers got drubbed by the Orioles 11-2.

37-44 and 8 games out of the race at the half waymark is not good, not good at all.

To get to 90 wins which might be enough for a wild card the Rangers will have to go 53 and 28 these next 81 and frankly it is really hard to see that.

All true statements, but did you know that the Texas Rangers are currently the reigning, defending, undisputed MLB World Champions?

Indeed, and that makes whatever happens this year and probably the next couple of years so much less intense and stressful. Flags fly forever and that flag will fly forever.

Scherzer with his second start goes 5 and a third a pitches well but gets the hard luck 2-1 loss. Rangers start second half of season with a loss and the little win streak last week now seems a distant memory as the losing streak hits five. Not even July 1 and we can just about out a pin in this season and start thinking next year.

Biggest off season move will be re-signing Eovaldi and that will take a chunk of cash that may or may not be available with the questions on tv money going forward still unanswered.

I'd sell a couple of our SPs in preparation for next season. When healthy we have more than we need. We'll just be healthy too late.

The Rangers may well be sellers in late July and yes, pieces like Scherzer, maybe Lorenzen, and possibly Kirby Yates at closer (all of whom have expiring contracts), if they all continue to show well, may well be moved since Texas won't spend money to keep Scherzer and may have to save money on Lorenzen and Yates to use on Eovaldi this offseason and might as well get something for all of them.

Next year's starting rotation in a perfect world would be DeGrom, Eovaldi, Mahle, Gray, and Bradford, with Dunning and Urena for long relief and spot starts. Leiter has had a rough go in his two MLB starts but continues to shine at Triple A and he should be ready for more of a role next year too in long relief and spot starts. I would love to keep Yates but he has been good enough that he will command more next off-season and could be priced out f the big spend is Eovaldi.

Re-signing Eovaldi is the biggest piece of setting up next year.

Losing streak at six games after a 6-5 loss last night, if the Rangers can't find a win today in the series finale in the series finale in Baltimore, it will be an 0-fer road trip and they will find themselves 10 games under .500 as the calendar turns to July.

On the last day of June, Wyatt Langford hits for the cycle and the Rangers win 11 to 2. They end the six game losing streak and will wake up on July 1 eight games at a first place in the AL West.

Finally, 11-2 win today vs birds. BLEEDING stopped for one game.

Rangers desperately need Jung and Seager back, plus hot bats and winning pitching for the second half of the season!

LSB with some thoughts on the Eovaldi situation, whether he is trade bait, and what it would take to extend/re-sign him.

The Nathan Eovaldi situation - Lone Star Ball

I hadn't totally processed that 8 of the 12 pitchers currently on the Ranger roster are free agents at the end of this year, I knew it was a bunch but had forgotten it was so many.

Like the author, for many of us, this sums up our feelings generally about the Rangers this year:

"they won it all last year, and so I’m generally more chill about the situation than I would be otherwise."

The article is a good brief of the Rangers' pitching situation. I wish Morris would have left Leiter out of the discussion as he has not shown any ability to consistently pitch 5-7 innings on the MLB level. It is looking like that was a wasted #1 pick.

They have offensive problems also. If they can get Seager and Jung back quickly that might be enough to stabilize that part of the game.

Anyway, they have 27 days to figure it out.

If another team is willing to part with a good prospect or two for one of our pitchers, IMO that's a good move. You never have too many good pitching prospects in the system.

So I happened to be driving home today before lunch and listening to the ticket here locally as they discussed the Rangers and I wish I had a transcript as they went through the offensive woes of the Rangers this year and pointed out player by player that for almost the entire lineup it is not that they are in slumps its that last year they had career years offensively and this year is just a reversion to their mean production. They used Heim, Lowe, Semein, Seager, and Taveras as stark examples of players who last year were way above their career average numbers and this year are much closer to their career averages. It is a reminder that when you have a year like last year where it all comes together, it is so important to go all in and try to grab that ring because you just cant count on record production happening year over year.

Was not able to watch much of this one. Evidently, EOVALDI was nails tonight!!!

Finally, Rangers lead SD the whole game and win 7-0 !!!
