2024 Softball Season

Why do we make winning these games so hard?
txhorn said it well...how hard can it be to not be focused in a game like this?:bevo:

HOLY KRAP!
I’m giving that relay and holding onto the ball while tagging out the sooner runner, knowing you’re fixing to take a blow, the ESPY!

I don’t understand the rule regarding leaving the base early. The runner on third scores, the runner on second should be out. Why is the batter punished because the runner left early ? Terrible rule. It happened to OU in game one also .

Texas needed that win. I know it’s only one game, but then again so much more.
Guess we’ll see maxwell tomorrow.
let’s take advantage of tonight’s victory and send em packing back across the Red River!

Very nice win Ladies! Now lets make this our normal rather than just an abbreviation. We can be this good all the time if we stay focused.:bevo:

If Coach looks at the tape and agrees with our base running errors I hope our celebration is short lived. I credit OU staff with finding and pointing out the error in keeping a close game close. I guarantee if they(OU) weren't before they definitely will be extremely focused on making a statement tomorrow. Now lets show our own sense of urgency and win this series!
:bevo:

Watching the replay several times over, Atwood took a pretty good shot to the head. Hope she doesn’t have a concussion.

Every year we are able to hang with them one game, kinda close another, then get blown out in one. We are ready to change the tide. I'd start Kavan with a short short leash with Estelle ready, then Mac to follow. Maybe you Simposon to get the last out of a jam. Just let each pitcher go through the line up once, and not try and get a complete game out of them.

Throw everything thing at them tomorrow if needed except the kitchen sink. Never mind. Throw that too!

I read this fascinating and long discussion about this rule on some unrelated twitter thread where in this case, a base runner left early on an eventual HR ball that was then called back. Here is the sequence:
1. Pitcher is in her windup and arm moving with the ball towards the batter
2. Runner leaves the base
3. Ball leaves the fingers of the pitcher
4. BOOM: At this point, the runner who left early is out
5. Any result positive or negative between the batter and the ball never happened: if it was a wild pitch, if it was a strike, if it was a HR, none of that happened the moment the ball left the fingers of the pitcher and the runner did leave bases early.

When Vic got to first on a walk, Mike White start signaling the dugout that he wanted someone to run for Vic. Vic waved Mike off and Mike relented and let her run. Next batter walked and Vic is on second.

I kept muttering to myself, "Don't any of you leave the bag early. Don't leave early, don't leave early"

And then I thought second was the weakest runner since there isn't a coach right next to you reminding you not to leave early and helping identify when the ball did leave the pitcher's hand.

Guys behind us were saying, "Ahhh, c'mon how hard can that be?"

My wife turned around and correctly pointed out that second base is the hardest position to judge when the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. Their body is blocking part of the view of the ball and the hand.

Vic can count her lucky stars for the relay throw and Reese hanging onto the ball. Because we all know, OU would have found to win in their last at bat.

Knowing that Patty Gasso is very mad her team lost to Texas. I predict Maxwell will pitch again Sunday on one day's rest (like OK-State did with Kilfoyl). I was right, OU has 1 1/2 good pitchers.

First in-season press conference I recall softball ever making. And the table is so small! Do better and more often Texas softball SID!

So you watch the runner on 3rd and leave only when they do. It was a freshman mistake which I hope will never be repeated.

Yeah! We were asking, "What good does getting a jump give you if you're not the lead runner?"

I do agree with the rule change which allows the review of leaving the bag early. So many times I've seen the replay of a scoring play (against Texas) that should have been negated because opposing base runners left early. And the answer was, "Not reviewable"

With our luck, or lack thereof against ou, Jody Bahl will portal back by game time and throw a perfect game against us torn acl and all.

During the game, I turned to my wife and said, "Doesn't it seem that OU rarely swings through on a strike? They get fouls they get pop-ups, but they rarely swing and miss. Always some sort of contact."

Looking at the stats from Saturday night:
Texas: 0.261
OU: 0.231

Texas: 7 strikeouts (1 looking)
OU: 3 strikeouts (1 looking)

They sure can connect. Which confirms why they're #1 with a BA of 0.394 and we're #2 with 0.377.

Almost tempted to mentally beg Mike to start Czech for 3 innings and then put in Kavan.

2 out single by Hansen. She’s been a thorn in our side forever. Czech strikes out the next batter to end the inning.
Let’s add to our lead!! :headbang:Yep

What a good series, well pitched. Not sure I'd of went Czech again in the 7th but it worked!! I'd still like better offense but love the wins anyhow. Hope Stewart can ride this momentum into the post season.

Wonder when ou was last held to one run twice in a row? Very nice series for the Longhorns - need to keep the intensity and be ready every game.

If you watched until the end of the telecast it showed Gasso and Mike White talking. Gasso seemed to be very humble in defeat as she shook Mike White’s hand and you could see she was shaking her head and vocally congratulating him on the win! I’m pretty sure her demeanor with her team after the game was not as cordial!
Their pitching staff outside of Maxwell is definitely beatable!

I have no LHN..Fell asleep waiting on live stats, woke up to the first series win against OU in a very long time. Hopefully it will be posted on YouTube today. Great job Coaches on a great game plan. I also want to commend the pitching staff, everyone did a great job holding this OU team to 7 runs in 3 games!
Lets finish the season Texas Strong!:bevo:
