2024 MCWS

Tennessee sends NC to the losers bracket, lots of good defense. Tenn in the drivers seat in bracket 1 and looking more like the team that will come from that side.

Looking more and more like an all SEC championship game now that Tennessee beat NC. The top team's from the ACC (NC & Fl St) cant get past the top team from the SEC (Tenn) and NC St. isn't going to get through bracket 2 with three SEC teams to beat and already in the losers bracket.

Just a question of who???? Winner of the UK and A&M game will be in the drivers seat but don't count out Florida just yet.

Does that mean we can get their coach on the cheap? 53 is still relatively young and he has 7 trips to Omaha on his resume.

In 21 years. David Pierce has a better "going to Omaha" percentage than O'Connor. Plus O'Connor turned us down last time.

Gone from MCWS:
Virginia
NC St.

6 teams left.

Next elimination game:
Florida St. Vs. North Carolina - Tuesday, 1pm.

Two pretty good teams are going home tomorrow.

The series speeds up a tick tomorrow.

2nd elimination game is also tomorrow:

Florida vs. loser of UK vs. A&M tonight. Tuesday, 6pm.

In 21 years. David Pierce has a better "going to Omaha" percentage than O'Connor. Plus O'Connor turned us down last time.
O'Connor is 8 years younger than Pierce and has taken a team to Omaha 7 times (including a national championship), while Pierce has taken a team to Omaha 3 times in his career (with no championship to show for it). Also, O’Connor’s salary is about a third less than Pierce’s. I'm pretty sure O'Connor has the edge here.

Time is ticking.

Speaking of win %, Pierce the last 4 years:
2021 .746
2022 .681
2023 .656
2024 .600
2025 ? i bet it's lower than .600, much lower. How much you wanna bet he schedules a bunch of Lamar's, Gramblings and West Texas A&M's to help his %?

That win % keeps trending in the wrong direction and the league was the weakest this year that I've ever seen it. Please see lack of Big XII teams in Omaha as additional evidence.

O'Connor built Virginia from NOTHING just like Corbin did at Vanderbilt.

Texas' history existed looooong before Pierce came here and, in fact, I could argue he was likely living off the history of Texas baseball the first few years of his tenure. (see the trending win % above the last 4 years as evidence)

Both O'Conner and Corbin won the title in year 12 after building their programs from nothing. Pierce is in year 9 now at a program that was built before he got here.

Augie was fired for going to Omaha only 3 times the previous 8 years before Pierce's arrival and that is counting a national runner up once.

Tick Tock.

Having said that, I'm not advocating for O'Connor to come to Texas. I think he's an excellent coach for Virginia and there are better options out there.

I'm not either - I just like tweaking the Pierce loyalists. I do think O'Connor would be an upgrade, though.

I agree he would be an upgrade. I have mad respect for what he and Corbin have done, he deserves the upmost respect and it's disrespectful to think Pierce is an equal.

Well, it took awhile for the scores to start in the UK vs. aggies but the Aggies have opened up this inning. up 5-0 now (top 6) and that might do it.

Aggies still up 5-0 after 7.

Schlossnagle has a very well balanced team, they can pitch, deep bullpen, great defense and solid offense.

Aggies with Schlossnagle definitely look like the only team that can give Tennessee a legit challenge.

O'Conner is a good guy, good/great coach, BUT I do not believe he is a fit for Travis County. If he even considered the job, it would be because UVA sports get very little support. They should have made Bill Schnker (sp) President 25 years ago, but so should A&M and Texas.

FWIW, Bill is a South San Antonio boy, who got his Bachelors at aTm. the MBA & PhD from Texas. UVa is the only job he's ever had. While I professor in the Comm school, he donated six figures to the football program. A&M was prepared to offer him the Provost job in the late 90s, when his wife got sick and he withdrew from consideration to remain in C'ville with her.

Siap: 2 aggys ejected from ball park in Omaha for taunting Florida dugout over death of 11 yr old Gator batboy.
Classless aggs raise ugly head again.

some controversy in his past when he was allegedly banging the bat boy's mother and the mother's husband later killed his own kids and then committed suicide. Oh, and Sully ended up marrying the mom after all this.
Good grief that is horrific if true.

You know what’s blasphemous??

There are two Carolina teams and two Florida teams in Omaha.

There should be two Texas teams in Omaha, Horns being one of them.

just my feeling and it causes my anger toward Pierce to flare up.

Florida St. up 7-1 after 4.5. Offense is for real. They might be able to take one game from Tennessee but I don't know about two.

Vance Honeycutt.....kid is a baller. 3 run shot. now 7-4 in the bottom of the 5th, 1 out. Still a lot of baseball left.
