2023 Texas Rangers

Some of you baseball purist may believe beaning a player on purpose is part of the game.

Because YOU believe in this unwritten action does not mean I have like it or agree with it. I'VE NEVER LIKED IT.

Always thought it was Busch League, what losers do in the MLB do.

DUSTY IS A LOSER.

And yes, I would say it was wrong if Boshy did it ... and we won the game.

Very unprofessional for MLB.

Yeah I'm still pissed off hours later....
Well put

You know what dusty reminded me i
of when he wouldn’t leave? Nolan Richardson in Austin (1986?) when he was tossed and refused to leave for a good 5 minutes. Thinks he's bigger than the game itself

I didn't agree with any of the ejections tonight, but dude you've been tossed. Gtfo the dugout and let the game resume. This isn't about you

Going to take a very looong time for me to recover. Surprisingly my wife got over it in 5 minutes.

Really wanted this to turn into a rivalry and the only way that happens is beating them. People down here are smug about their astros and their superiority in the AL. With good reason I suppose

You will be pleased to know Wyatt CRUSHED Southwest tonight 50-13.

I check SHS now and then... they are 2-5 on the season. Yawns....

I understand why Rangers fans are upset. But, just using logic, why would Houston purposely hit a batter while down by 2 in the 8th inning? Makes no sense. Karma worked out and the best team won.

OD plays football?? :whiteflag:

Tbh I haven't kept up in a very long time. After about 1977 it wasn't the same school, 3 yrs after I graduated. A buddy of mine that was a senior in '77 was feet away from a student that was murdered at Wyatt. Think that was 76 or 77.

SWHS & OD were built about the same year... 68 I think. When I went back in 76 the place was a dump. Coke stains on hallway walls etc. Couldn't believe it but you could predict it. Gradual decline that became rapid.

SWHS didn't have those issues until later on. Dated a couple of girls from Glen Garden (kept contact for some time)that went there, SW held up a bit better for awhile

I hear you, but there's a history between Maldonado and a few of the Rangers. That will not stop after the series if Maldonado is still an Astro next year

On to game 6...

That’s what I wondered about. Intentionally putting a runner on base would be so dumb in that situation, so why do it?

is a HBP always assumed to be intentional?

Thanks Eastern. Not going bother to try to explain to you why Dusty did it, but it WAS calculated and NOT an accident.

On to game 6....

Didn't understand the ejections of the two players. Alcs, and you toss a pitcher for a hbp under the shoulders? Odd judgment

I told my wife it didn't make sense to add a baserunner in that situation. She disagreed and reminded me I'm rarely correct on anything, so....

I agree with woo on intentionally hitting batters, there's no place for it . .unless you're getting back for excessive celebration. We got back at Bautista with a HBP (followed by an epic *** kicking) and it was justified imo. If dusty or Maldonado did hit garcia over the celebration, then it is what it is. But no punches were thrown, no one was head hunting . I'm just surprised at the ejections. Jmo

Side notes between me and H2RA - all public HS in FW are deplorable compared to when we attended in the 70's. Athletics and especially football in public schools have sucked for decades.

Anyway, you mentioned Glen Garden. As membership declined at the CC over the years, parts of the land were sold off. Fall 2022 I attended my 50th HS reunion at a high-end place called: Whiskey Ranch and Distillery at GG. Nice place & evening, good friends, women looked better than the men overall !!!

SWHS had the best looking girls in fw back then, none were pig headed. Never met a jerk or (female dog) that went there.

After AHHS in the 70s mark julian, Renfro brother days, not much success from FtW high schools. Trinity, Bell, Lamar then Southlake and Aledo ruled the area

No. Many times balls get away from the pitcher and they don't mean or want to hit the batter and put a runner on base.

HOWEVER, there are other times it's done to send a message, pay back for perceived disrespect, stop a hot batter from doing more harm, payback for the other team hitting one of YOUR batters. Combination of some of the above or possibly something else.

Time in the game it is done is also a BIG factor if intentional.

I went to summer camps with Mike and Mark Renfro in Colorado late 60's - early 70's. Paschal HC Bill Allen's ranch for boys.

Kept up with Mike thru college for a while - what a stud. I saw early on he was going to be great! I sadly heard Mark died of cancer a few years ago. Did not know younger brother Mitch.

Didn't know about Mark's death, I'm sad to hear. He was as tough to cover as Mike was. Great hands and quickness

Arizona came back to win in an unlikely victory over the Phils. Was thinking that SHOULD have been the Rangers

Wow, I remember them now. Bad dudes.

They were not at OD in my time there , never knew them. And I knew of no one with that type of criminal history at OD when I was there. I'd heard it was a zoo not long after our class left. The demographics of that whole area were changing "rapidly" my Jr, sr years . By 76 it affected the school as a whole.

Sports related.
Do you remember Donald Bass? Played football, basketball at Poly. Best HS athlete from FW I ever saw, Raymond Clayborn included. He went to cougar high and was an all American TE for Bill Yeoman. Drafted by the Bengals. Was car jacked & killed in cincy around 81 or 82. He was a teammate of mine at Forest Oak Jr high. Sad deal but always found trouble

More and more Forest Oak kids that lived that lifestyle chose OD over Poly in 74 and onward. At the time many kids could choose between the two. Next time I get to Tolberts I'll share what "D Bass" told me about his decision to bypass OD for Poly. Bizarre story

Yes, I remember Bass, especially remember Clayborn of course... and Ivey Suber from OD. I was at the '76 ou game Suber played in.

Interested to hear your story re OD days and Bass sometime soon!

Do you recall Mike Nelms @ Wyatt? Class of 73, was the same size as me. Under sized, Played at JC, transferred to Baylor, eventually wound up with the Redskins and led the NFL in ko returns in the 80s.

Two things of interest. (1) he blocked 2 fg attempts against SWHS in the 4th qtr to preserve a tie in 72. (2) his biggest football influence besides his Dad was our HC, coach Tommy Runnels who left for Pittman's tcu staff after nelms' soph year...coach runnels was also a top notch kick returner for the redskins in the 50s. Odd how that connection worked

Down by two with runner on base, do you REALLY believe that was intentional?

It isn't what Abreu does and Maldy was also set up outside, not in.

That said, I have no doubt that emotions and the ensuing delay turned the game.

1990 I think. The Drum was rocking.

Yes, remember Nelms. Interesting about his career.

Yes, I believe it was intentional and so did 6 umpires. That is why Abreu was deservedly ejected.

So did Garcia, the batter hit. Players KNOW when a hit is intentional and when not.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

You don't put two on with no outs down by two in the 8th, especially with a shaky Pressly as next out of the pen in a game that pivots a series...you just don't.

My dream scenario for today:
  • Eovaldi plunks Maldonado early
  • Maldonado trots to first, with his emotions fully in check
  • Eovaldi gets tossed
  • Astros win in a blowout
I’m not gonna predict any of this … but it isn’t unrealistic.
