2023 Recruiting - WBB

ESPN updated their recruit rankings today...

Gisella Maul moved up to #32. Sammie Wagner dropped from #17 to #23. Abbie Boutilier is unranked.

Movement by Other UT Targets:
  • C Breya Cunningham fell from #4 to #10
  • PG Hannah Hidalgo jumped from #18 to #5.
  • C Aalyah Del Rosario went from #13 to #8.
As noted previously, UT made Cunningham's Final 5. I don't think Hidalgo has trimmed her list. According to the article talking about the movement: Del Rosario's recruitment will narrow soon, but currently includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, Texas, Arizona, NC State, Texas A&M, Duke, Miami and Auburn.

Mikaylah Williams has announced her final 5 schools. She is likely LSU bound since she’s from Louisiana and is at the top of Mulkey’s wish list.

Williams is rated the #1 recruit of the 2023 class by ESPN HoopGurlz

Kara with 2 seasons at Duke; Mulkey with 1 season at LSU; Collen with 1 season at Baylor; Joni just starting at A&M.

And, all 5 finalists with female head coaches and a combined 2 post-season wins in NCAA tourney at their current schools.

Think Jordyn Byrd just committed to UT Volleyball!!!
Speaking of Jordyn Byrd, saw something out on Instagram that caught my attention, and I couldn't quite piece it all together in the grand scheme of things.

A few days ago, Aaliyah Moore started following Byrd out on Instagram. Just seemed so random. As noted in the transfer thread, Moore had started following Khadija Faye a few days before it was announced that Faye was transferring from Tech to Texas.

Now, I see that Jordyn Byrd returned Moore's follow, and has also started following Khadija Faye out on Instagram.

Byrd is a dual athlete in high school. No indications at all that she has plans to play any other sport (hoops) in college other than volleyball. But, the timing of the follows I listed above seem odd; perhaps it's just coincidental. Or, perhaps Byrd was on the Texas campus recently and met Moore and Faye.

That's just fine. I will think it anyway, and I hope we can still get along.

Most of the time I find your posts very informative. Occasionally though, I have to wonder at the amount of time and effort you must put into following dozens of college girls on social media.

And, I have to wonder why you always seem to think the worst of people you don't even know.

FYI -- I don't "follow" anyone on social media. I have registered social media accounts to "view" data as it relates to (male/female) recruits/players and Longhorn sports. I view twitter/Instagram accounts when there's a reason to do so. If their accounts are private, I can't view a thing. If their accounts are public, I can see what the rest of the free world can see. So, call me names and insult me all you want for your personal enjoyment.

Honestly, I shouldn't have to explain my "sleuthing". You're gonna think the worst anyway, and post your negative/insulting thoughts here on this forum, which you already have.

I can accept that explanation, Moo and to be honest I truly appreciate it. I have exactly zero of those social media accounts, so I have no idea how it actually works. In my mind, I assumed you had to take a fairly proactive role to see all that stuff.

I am also guilty of the following... If I myself was spending all that time viewing the social media of female college athletes, I would think of myself as kinda' creepy. I should not have projected that onto you, and for doing so, I apologize.

Moooooo, I appreciate your sleuthing. Keep on sleuthing.

All social media signs have been pointing to her going out of state. But, I thought Rylee Grays was enamored with NC State, not the Tar Heels.

I get that Vic and Elena wear jackets and sweats inside the gym; but, dang, take them off when outside in 100+ degree heat!

Normally, I'd say "better than choosing Baylor". I guess "better than choosing Baylor or A&M" is appropriate in this case.

It's not a surprise that Williams is staying home to play at LSU. So far, LSU's investment in Mulkey, looks like it's paying off. The Mulkey vs Staley vs Harper battle in the SEC is heating up.

Not trying to make this political but this is going to be mentioned in recruiting, count on it.

Let me try to figure out exactly where politics fall into the factors of deciding where to play:

Head Coach.
Head coach's ability at developing players.
Coaching scheme.
How I fit into the coaching scheme.
Position Coach.
Position coach's history of developing players at my position.
Relationship developed with coaches during recruitment.
Teammates.
If I'm a post, are there guards who are willing to feed the post.
If I'm a guard, are there posts and wings who can take pressure off of me.
Team chemistry.
Official visit.
Unofficial visits.
My relationship with my host player during my official visit.
Previous season's record.
Previous season's tournament run.
Overall trajectory of the program.
Chances of playing for conference championship.
Chances of competing for national championship.
Playing time.
Players in front of me who will graduate.
Former player's opinions about coaches.
Alumni size.
Alumni network for job after basketball if I don't play professionally.
How many games are televised.
Longhorn Network, all home games are televised.
Distance for family and parents to travel to watch me play.
The general weather conditions.
Ticket availability for my family.
Social networking and promotion.
Name, Image, Likeness.
Is the university sponsored by Nike, Addidas, or Under Armour?
Fanbase size.
Size of Arena.
Attendance figures.
Quality of Arena.
Size of Locker Room.
Quality of Locker Room.
Quality of practice arena.
Distance of dorm to arena/practice facility.
Quality of education.
Size of the University.
Private or Public university.
City v. Suburb v. Rural campus.
Campus amenities.
Whether the campus is beautiful.
Restaurant offerings off campus.
Recreational opportunities off campus.
Do they offer the major I want or will coaches force me into a major I don't want.
How will practice schedule work with my classes I choose for my major.
Cost of Attendance add on.
What other universities are offering me a scholarship.
Student support staff for both basketball and academics.
School traditions.
School colors.
Uniform design.
Which conference do I want to compete in, Big 12 going to SEC.
What my AAU/EYBL/Club coach thinks.
What my family thinks.
Were my parents alumni of the same university.
What my friends think.
Do I have siblings who attended or are currently attending the same university.
Which friends will also attend the same university.
WNBA players from that university.
Size and resources of the athletic program.
Size and resources of the women's basketball program.
Quality of dorm I will live in.
Food services both in the player lounge and dorm.
Travel abroad once every four years.
Travel destination during Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays.

Nope, politics doesn't enter into the calculation or it's so far down it's negligible. It's called projecting. Nancy Armour doesn't like the Supreme Court decision so she's projecting herself upon high school recruits.
