2023 Recruiting - Football

Surprise!

Opens a pipeline to Hawaii. Awesome get.

Analysis (via Daniel Seahorn):

Lefau possesses solid size (6’1, 210 pounds) and a good frame that should allow him to continue to add mass at the next level. You won’t find many linebackers that can credibly flip over to the offensive side of the ball and play wide receiver.

Lefau can do that and that speaks volumes to his athleticism. On one clip he is playing off the ball at inside linebacker stepping up in gaps and stopping ball carriers cold then the next he is running down the seam out of the slot making big plays on offense.
The athleticism shows up early and often on tape for Lefau, as he shows good comfort in getting deep in his drops in coverage and shows the ability to get his hands on the football. On top of that, he shows really good range from sideline to sideline and is a knockback tackler who absolutely brings the funk once he arrives to the ball carrier.

I will want to see if he can show the ability to fight through blocks as the competition improves, but I think once he focuses on linebacker full time he could end being a heck of a player. When you find a guy with this kind of athletic profile, who is already showing the coverage skills, range, and disposition to play linebacker you take them every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Cnb, how do we look with Tausili Akana? This has to help I would think.

Yes!!!!!

I’ve been banging the drum for years to cherry pick some top football talent out of Hawaii.

Lifau looks like a real good LB. I bet he plays out well for the Horns! The school he’s from (Kahuku) might have more alumni who are in, or have been in, the NFL than any high school in the country. (Just an educated guess...). They’re known for big, strong, and fast Mormon Samoan dudes who are good at football, and who usually end up scattered throughout the PAC 12 or at BYU. If it weren’t for private St Louis High, who recruits many of the top players statewide (cheats), Kahuku might win the Hawaii state championship in football almost every year. Great place and school to establish a pipeline. Now just wait til we get a lineman or two from Kahuku…

My take is that Lefau is a bit small in stature but since he is a LB i will take him. Give me Hill please.
I don't think he is 6-0 like listed. Looks closer to 6-2. Add about 15 or so lbs and he will fit in nicely. As far as Hill goes, I agree, would love to have him. Denton boys to Austin boys?

From this 24/7 article:

“It was a very hard decision,” he said. “When I’m out at at Utah it just feels like home to me. There are a lot of Polynesians and they play good football and good defense. Also in Oregon they have a lot of Polynesians too and they have a good defensive staff now. It was a hard decision, but one of the main things it came down to is, Texas has a lot of opportunities. Also, in Texas I could be the start of something new to start a Hawaii pipeline or something. I’ll be one of the first Polynesian linebackers to play there which is big to me for paving my own path.”

DE/LB Braylan Shelby of Friendswood told Wiltfong at 247 that Texas is the team to beat after his weekend in Austin.

IT saying Texas made a positive move with LB Anthony Hill, Jr. of Denton Ryan this weekend.

Maybe the most positive of all the guys being nationally recruited.

Anthony Hill, Ryan, Linebacker

Hill's quote to 247:

“The Austin trip was amazing,” Hill said of his official. “What excited me about this time is you can see the rise with all the new guys they brought in.”
