We do have his former WR coach here.
We dont need another receiver.
Right?
Can he play DE?Addison is one of the best WRs in the country. You get him if its possible.
Can he play DE?
No, but a TE can.Can he play DE?
All signs pointed to Tx. Visits here 3 times. Neb once.Mathis commits to Nebraska.
$$$$$All signs pointed to Tx. Visits here 3 times. Neb once.
Big blow. Need some DE.
Bummer, but not a shocker. As I opined several days ago, I suspect that the visibility here intimidated him. He can be mediocre at Nebraska and no one will notice. At Texas, he would either be a highly visible difference-maker, or a disappointment.$$$$$
Which is now permissible and no longer evidence of a tainted recruitment.$$$$$
Legend, I don’t see it that way. In fact, I now believe that “he chose to transfer” for financial reasons, looking for the highest bidder. Given that his family lives in the shadows of DKR and his former coach is now on staff, why in the world would he choose Nebraska. “Nebraska?”If GP were the DC this would have been different.
Nebraska got him. Word I hear is that they offered significantly more $620K?) in NIL than we did. Blows me away that we were "$ whipped" at a position of great need.Legend, I don’t see it that way. It’s all about the money. Certainly from a “short term financial perspective,” he made the right decision. Long term? We shall see.
Seems like a risky bet.Nebraska got him. Word I hear is that they offered significantly more $620K?) in NIL than we did. Blows me away that we were "$ whipped" at a position of great need.
I just dont understand the continued comments about such a huge need position. I dont think anyone knew that Jacoby Jones was the key to last years defense but when he went down in the ou game, the defense certainly was adversely impacted. But given that, anyone see a pass rush last year out of pk's defense? Anyone? The answer is no and thats on the dc. Some have said the players quit or didnt buy in and again, thats on the coaches. I have never understood that concept so perhaps thats me but I dont care if its checkers, if you are a competitor you play to win. If we had kids who didnt embody that then for goodness sake, put them on the bench. We have had one after another of excellent recruiting classes with the exception of OL. Almost every kid on Texas had offers from a number of prominent schools. The coaches job is to put the best product on the field with what you have and our dc is not doing that. If he doesnt produce by ou, he will no longer be the DC and GP will assume that role. Sark cant allow kansas and really any school put up 50+ on Texas. That is inexcusable!Nebraska got him. NIL is the wild west right now but it will work itself out.I’m not inclined in April to give up on our 2022 defense before they even take the field for game 1. True, they might stink, but frankly with or without Mathis, I believe that the unit will be improved, perhaps considerably. But yes, we badly need help on the edge.
Back to Mathis, I don’t like the idea of being manipulated into a bidding war for a kid’s services. That just rubs me the wrong way. Let Nebraska have him. If it was all about the money — and on the surface that appears to be the case — perhaps we’re better off without him.

I believe you are overrating exposure at UT. Therefore your premise is faulty.NIL is the wild west right now but it will work itself out.
I agree that if Mathis has great confidence in his abilities and expects to be a high draft pick, then the exposure at Texas is what he would be looking for. Even if the NIL dollars are less.
At some point the the truly great players relish what they get with NIL but always remain focused on getting to the next level.
NIL is chicken feed compared to what the future may bring.
Others will chase NIL, get fat and lazy and hopefully get a degree to fall back on.
I believe there will be some form of regulation in the future concerning NIL.
Gotta disagree, and agree with moon. We will almost certainly have at least two games and perhaps more than will be featured nationally, Bama & OU. Nebraska will have zero and with no disrespect intended, who really cares about NU outside of their fan base and outside of Lincoln?I believe you are overrating exposure at UT. .
Additionally, there is a little doubt that Bijan Robinson will be a high profile Heisman candidate, attracting attention. Then there’s Worthy. There is also the intrigue of the highest rated 2021 recruit, Ewers, and how he does.
The point wasn’t whether Texas is back or if we deserves the audience, but that Texas will draw the audience, regardless. So certainly compared to the Nebraska, that point seems indisputable.
You’re probably right. I’m just annoyed. The kid had a chance to make a difference and instead he just took the money.I just believe pro scouts know whats what.
