2023 Recruiting - Football

Dalton (2023) and Doug Brooks (2022) are brothers who play for Shiner. Dalton is heavily recruited. Doug will also play in college but is not ranked as high. They are cousins with recent Texas commit Jonathon Brooks who played down the road for Hallettsville

We offered both 2023 DL John Walker and 2023 DL Derrick LeBlanc who go to the same school
They might have a good team this season, or at least a good D

LeBlanc family must be from west Florida, which used to be controlled by the French.

The Fire Chief was LeeRoy Hebert. Daddy always told him him, "Coonass, you managed to swim across the river, get you a regular job, bought a pair of silk drawers, and now you are LeeRoy HEEEBERT"

Lee Roy was a good Fire Chief. Mother always congratulated him and bragged on him that "he has never lost a vacant lot".

We offered QB Arch Manning - grandson of Archie and nephew of Peyton and Eli. Named #1 overall sophomore QB in the country by 247

Some positive grumbling going on out there with regard to us and Arch Manning

If you were around back in the day, we came close to landing Eli Manning

We offered DE David Hicks from Morton Ranch

DE David "DJ" Hicks, Katy Morton Ranch (2023): The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder is already at a dominating size, especially for his age. He already holds 15 offers and that list is only growing. After a fantastic sophomore season in which he notched 52 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and five sacks, the young athletic defender has many things he’d like to improve on during the off-season.

“I want to work on everything, to be honest,” said Hicks. “The main two are speed and getting better hands. I am a hard-working player and a leader.”

With offers from Texas, OU, Texas A&M, Washington, and TCU, among others, two teams are recruiting him the hardest. “Probably Texas A&M and Arizona State,” Hicks said. The Texas offer caught his attention.

“It meant a lot,” Hicks said. “I grew up watching (Texas) and they said they like my film and the way I use my hands.”

When you're building programs around the line of scrimmage, Hicks is a no-brainer for Bo Davis and staff.

2023 QB Jake Strong from Justin

2,391 yards/29 TDs passing + 505 yards/7 TDs rushing -- "strong arm, quick release, and exuding leadership skills."

"I've been hearing from USC, Texas, Baylor, ou and (aggy).
"I'd love to visit to UT. I'm open to what the new coaches are doing."

Besides Morice Blackwell (2021) and Trevell Johnson (2022), Arlington Martin has a third stud defender -- CB/ATH Javien Toviano (2023) who we "re-offered." "Toviano has the speed, frame, and quickness to play cornerback on the next level. He combines body control with effortless change in direction. Arlington Martin is one hell of a pipeline if you can swing it. Others are catching on."

“This new coaching staff, you can tell something’s different on the Forty Acres right now.”
“The message from Texas was they are just really excited about what type of player I am. And how good my film is and it’s just hard to not re-offer someone of my caliber.”

The Arlington Martin defense even has a fourth guy we are after
But Ernest Cooper, who is a 2022, is flirting with the Tree People (and you know how those usually end)

If you were wondering, Martin went 10-2 last season, won their first 2 playoff games but then fell to Quinn Ewers/Southlake Carroll 30-26

Some notes about the descendant of French Pirates

DE Derrick Leblanc, Osceola (Kissimmee, FL) (2023): The 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end from the Sunshine State was quite familiar with a few of the new Texas coaches when they called to re-offer the four-star with 40 offers.

After getting to know a few staffers at Alabama, and now in Austin, Leblanc is eager to see what they do at Texas. “It’s the same love," said Leblanc, from UT's new coaches. "I get it from the staff showing me all the attention. I'm looking for a lot of things in a program. Education, the environment, graduation rate, depth chart, and zee leetel little things.”

Alabama, Georgia, and LSU are setting the pace here, but it's another example of the staff going after difference-makers.

Offer to OG Harris Sewell from Odessa Permian
He has some "family ties" to Texas.
And we waited to do this on his birthday

"Re-offer" to ATH/CB Daniel Demery from Parish Episcopal
#12 ATH nationally per 247 and #52 overall
I think he plays CB for us
