2023 Recruiting - Football

There is much truth to this. Even tho my wife of 30 years and I did not go to the same HS, we both grew up on the Gulf Coast in the Houston area, so we also speak the same language. We share what I call "Gulf Coast Sensibilities" which I did not even know existed until I left home at 18 and moved to Waco to attend TSTI. My roommate was from Houston as well and we used to remark about how different people in Waco were. Turns out they were not weirdos, just not from the Gulf Coast.

Yep. I have so many friends back there as does she. We can all get together and it's like old times. Just not as much on the party favor side! Her Dad is still there and we took him to Eagle Pass to gamble at the casino. We went to the cemetery together to see friends and family and drop a few flowers off. These things really add up.

Best I can tell, there's only 1 or 2 scholarship spots available assuming the 85 limit applies.

Are there any extra scholarships currently still allowed based on the temporary Covid scholarship limit increase. I never got a good feel for how that worked.

When a scholarship player that had a 5th year available leaves through the portal, does the school being left get to fill that spot?

Isn't there a new 2 season waiver allowing 25 first time qualifier scholarships regardless of the 85 scholarship limit?

This is all voodoo magic to my poor old pea brain.:idk: & :confused2:

Hoping that we subscribe to the same philosophies that were recently printed of Nick Saban's. Come because you want to be here and then earn that NIL money.

I am believing the 85 scholarship limit has not changed. so if we have 85 and someone portals out, regardless of how many years of eligibility he has left, we now have 84, so we have one scholarship left to give.

I am also speculating that if we have 86 scholarships on board after the spring practice due to transfers and recruiting then the coaches will approach a player who is not likely to play because they are on the bottom of the depth chart, then the coaches will let him know that so he could possibly portal to make the 85 limit in the portal time frame in the month of May. But I'm just speculating on that.

You are totally correct poms. The guys who stay for the covid year count towards the 85 total.
I also only show 2 spots available.

Thanks Poms. I feel the same as you described. Spring practice will provide some guidance.

Here's a ESPN article from November that describes some of the chaos and ins & outs of the transfer portal: How transfer windows will change college football: Everything we know, and what coaches are saying

and another from SI about recent rule changes to put some limits on 2nd portal transfers :
NCAA makes change to college football transfer portal

It's expected that there will be a minimum of 2 that leave this spring

Hamilton at IT saying this morning that the recruitment of TE Duce Robinson is the perfect example of Sark and his staff recruiting through the whistle.

The Horns are still in the conversation and one source even believes it's a Texas/USC battle.

Apparently baseball is still a factor in his decision and he may not sign this week.

Duce Robinson, Pinnacle, Tight End

I read yesterday Duce hopes to sign with MLB this summer and play CFB as well in the fall

However, that article painted it as a USC - GA battle

Good news is that if he signs a baseball contract, they have to pay for his education. As I understand it (probably wrong), this will be the first test of how NIL/MLB work together or against each other.
