2023 Recruiting - Football

As much as I dislike Venables, even I can't compare him to Blake. He simply is not that stupid.

A couple of decades ago, I had the privilege of sitting in a friend's office and meet a much admired and funny football guru who is on TV weekly. Quote: "John Blake is the stupidest son of a ***** to ever coach a major team."

How can anyone believe this? Prior to coaching he was educated at that fine Oklahoma University.

I think most Texas fans dont care about having a #1 recruiting class as long as the team we have shows up to play and doesnt do like last year. I truly believe we have the talent to be dominant & I think most of those freshman OL will be starting before year end. We have been sorely lacking in lb play for several years. Not sure if our portal additions will change that or if our scheme will help or hurt. Just tired of being everyones dream game on the schedule. Remember we made Colorados RB a heisman winner back in the early 90's. No one fears Texas on their schedule. If you disagree, need I state Kansas?? Hoping for a mighty turn around this year!

So was DKR

I realize this. Coach Royal was the major reason, aside from quality of education, that I chose to attend UT. Not to mention guys on the team that I admired so much, like Steve Worster, and too many others to mention.

I knew all about DKR having played at OU, but he was much smarter than Blake wasn't he? He chose to coach here. He was the best college coach at that time in my opinion. Still one of the very best all time.

Hook'em

There is some chatter that Toviano may commit to the good guys before his previous 8/25 announced commitment date.

Point of order.

DKR's family was from the Texas panhandle (IIRC). He somehow wound up in Hollis OK due a job his Dad had or something like that. His play at Hollis HS got the attention of ou and he got a scholarship. I'm sure back in those days, UT was not scouting any players in OK, so that is why he was there. But his roots were in TEXAS.

Now back to the TEXAS recruiting juggernaut!! :headbang:

Coach Royal was sent back home from the Bakersfield area (where he began picking strawberries, which he loathed) because of his baseball skills. A Jr. HS coach recommended he pursue that talent. He moved in with a maternal uncle in Hollis. Edith sent a bowl over to him at breakfast. Told me the story first hand,

maybe i am drinking burnt orange koolaid but i am stoked about the possibility of landing Baxter, Matthews, Hale, Toviano. Highly ranked prospects which we have a good chance of landing.
then there is the possibility of landing Wilson-DE and Akana-LB(we could certainly use another LB and he is rated .9600).
Baxter and Matthews seem solid to the good guys.
i am happy that Sark wants more man-to-man coverage on the receivers. i have been calling for this for a long time. knock the receivers off their routes. disrupt their timing. make the qb throw to a tighter window. Now if we get Malik Muhammad, Matthews, Jamel Johnson and Toviano, two of those four could be "lock down" corners.
The future of the secondary looks bright.
