2022 Transfer Season

Absolutely. This was a great get for us and will balance us offensively and create some good spacing on the floor. Teams will definitely have to defend us straight up. I can't remember the last time we had a potential lineup where all five players were each capable of putting up 20 points on any given night. I really like this roster addition.
Yep. Teams like Tennessee and Lsu got all of the attention because of who they brought in from the portal. But I think Vic and his staff quietly brought in just as good of portal additions. Quality over quantity. And because we don't have as many different players to incorporate into the system, it makes it quicker and easier for the team to jell.

Looks good. Thanks for posting the spreadsheet.

When does the Super Senior option expire? Will Matharu, Jones, Holle, and Gaston be eligible for super senior years?
The 2022-23 Juniors will be the last group to have a super senior year. You are listing the ones that have the option for Texas. For most people on the roster they are classified in accordance with their academic year but Femme & Kobe for some reason aren't. I believe their super senior year is 2023-24.

Time for a roster spreadsheet update. I’ve lost track of # of players, position depth, class, etc. With Morris on board, it just got tougher to get minutes for people like Hunter. Even Holle’s minutes seem to be dropping a tad. Matharu’s inconsistencies seem to need to be minimized to keep her role on the upside. I can rationalize the freshmen not playing much for awhile but not long. Anybody up to the task?

Does not yet include Morris. I would copy the picture of the roster/scholarship count, but Raoul does this for free and needs the clicks.

With 2 now gone and 2 new additions ….just for 2022……and some futures not on there……my simple mind will wait till Raul updates. By then, we might have a back-up center and back-up point guards as well. It was still helpful.

I highly doubt an addition of backup point as Matharu, Hunter and now Morris are all capable. Another center would be nice.

I'm still surprised we managed to snag Morris. Typically, I find the chances of luring a particular transfer if there is some kind of a connection (personal or geographic to Texas). Like Taylor Jones, who is from the state of Texas, and was recruited by Vic while at MSU, and who was already familiar with our program having visited many times during her high school years. Or, Matharu who played for Vic, Elena, and Dionnah at MSU.

With Morris, I could see a connection with Dionnah as both are from St. Louis. But, Dionnah left Texas a couple of months, and way before Morris visited Texas. So, there might be a connection; but, I just don't know what it is. If there is no connection, then our current coaching staff did a great job reaching out to her to get her interested in Texas, and convincing her to hop on board for a season.

Well, it looks like since Morris committed she has started following TexasWBB, hornsnews, Aa-mo, Rori, Ndjakalenga, Jordana, and a few longhorn fans and sites. Oh, and uhh, she also just started following Jewel Spear (who reciprocated). Just sayin'.

We watched the second half of the Lehigh-Weber St game to see who would end up playing Washington. Weber St was the home team and was up 4-2 in the top of the 7th inning and gave up 3 runs to Lehigh who had two outs to eventually lose 4-5.

Racer LOL! You must be up late. You posted this softball update in the women's basketball 2022 transfer string. This is something like I would do. I'm still laughing.

Ooops. I was up very early. The timestamps on this forum is fairly random.

I think we have addressed our two biggest needs in the portal and signed two great players, plus with our incoming freshmen we have everything we need. I would be okay with us not signing anyone else for fear of recruiting over our current younger players.
You can't have "fear" in this industry if you want to keep your job and win.

Vic actually made a comment last offseason that he wasn't going to bring a in a transfer if it affected the growth and development of the younger players he signed out of high school. I know some posters agreed. I disagreed as I want Vic to do what is needed to improve his roster annually. And, obviously, not all situations are the same.

One year later, a "young" player in Latasha Lattimore transfers out. Maybe that opened Vic's eyes a bit to the reality of the climate we are in. While she is just one player, the commitment shown needs to be a two-way street between coach and player. And, depending on the timing, a coach could miss out on obtaining a transfer if current player says one thing (about willingness to stay in program) and does the opposite. Not saying Lattimore did that; just saying that Vic's statements a year ago only make sense if younger players aren't bailing.

That is very interesting. Would never connect the two, so perhaps something is up. Spear isn't a player you turn away unless you just don't have a 'ship for her.

Spear must have made friends along-the-way with other members of our basketball team. Per her IG, she follows Kyndall Hunter, Shay Holle, Aaliya Moore, Sammie Wagner, Gisella Maul and Jordana Codio. I believe she played USA Basketball with Moore and AAU basketball with Hunter.

It is an interesting mix of current players and others who will be high school seniors.

@Moooooo and others, I believe Aston recruited her but I don’t recall if she ever visited. Her final schools were Texas Tech, NC State, Alabama and Wake Forest.

Spear played for CyFair Elite club (same organization as Moore and Hunter). So, her having connections to players from the state of Texas makes sense. Don't see/know the connection between her and new transfer, Sonya Morris

Found this in our 2020 Recruiting thread:

Interesting. That list of follows sounds like what you'd see from a CURRENT Texas player.

All it takes is a little proofreading.

Question though...

Does Sonya Morris have two sisters and a brother as mentioned in the last sentence (in other words, did they just screw up the surname in that sentence), or is that actually Taylor Jones' family members?

The Youtube algorithm just put this Sonya Morris video on my feed today. I looked up the box score for this game and Morris led her #24 DePaul team past #9 Kentucky that day. Morris outscored everyone, including UK's Howard (WNBA#1 pick) and Edwards (BU transfer). She scored 23 pts in 27 mins, was 3 of 4 from 3pt range, and as these highlights show, she was absolute money in the clutch:

Still haven't seen any confirmation that Jewel Spear has entered the transfer portal (or has plans to do so). But, she did start following Kim Mulkey on Instagram. She also started following Brooke McCarty.
