2022 Transfer Season

This is very interesting. Vic started following Texas Tech's 6'4 Kha'Dija Faye on Instagram. Vic hasn't added anyone to his follow list in like months. Hadn't seen that she's in the transfer portal, but not all is put out there on social media.

And, I see that Coach Lovato is following her on twitter. I think it might be a recent follow, but I don't have as much confidence viewing twitter like I do on IG as far as which follows are recent.

Blair and Lavoto are following her on IG too. Basically, our entire staff is now following her on IG. :e-face-tears:

Hmmmmm. She's not in the portal correct? Hurt part of the year?
She could be in the transfer portal; just that it has not been reported on social media. Someone posted on the Tech message board yesterday asking if she was still on the team as she was not seen back on the team bench after she was injured in February.

Since Vic is following Khadija Faye on IG, that has to be a huge sign, IMO.

Here's some info about Faye (who has played 2 seasons at Tech and has 3 seasons of eligibility remaining):

Faye’s breakout performance this past season came in a February home win (2021) over the Kansas State Wildcats where she put up 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 blocks. At that point in the season, she had already become an everyday starter for the team. She started in all of the team’s last fifteen games of the season.

Certainly takes a bit of the sting out of the Lattimore transfer. I guess she's not buying what AC was selling.

I've been laughing (or crying) watching so many transfers end up transferring to schools within their same conference, especially the ACC, SEC, and PAC 12. If Texas can land Faye (Tech) and Lauren Fields (OSU), then I will have to just accept it as nationwide . . . :p

K. Faye and T. Jones would be quite the duo at the 5. Both have decent length, good shot blockers, capable finishers, and can get up and down the floor. Whomever we end up with, we won't have a huge giant in the middle but speed kills and pressure bursts pipes!

I'm all for adding post players who bring effort and rebounding skills. Obviously, they still need to be able to make their layups and play good defense, but if you can outrebound your opponents (as a team), especially on the offensive glass, you'll be in position to win a lot of games.

Yeah, I'm surprised too but I guess those teams have all seen you play and know you pretty well, also there's the "we stole you from them" thing. I wouldn't want to play my old school and my old teammates unless there was some seriously bad blood. I just REALLY hope none of our seniors end up in the B12. That would suck epically.

With Audrey gone to UGA, that leaves only Ebo whom I suspect would maybe elect to go back closer to home. In addition to Maryland, lots of options in that region and several in the ACC.

Especially when you consider the rebounding prowess we already have at the 4 in A. Moore and Gaston. Incoming frosh A. Muhammad is also VERY active on the glass -- quick to the ball.

So, if Texas signs K. Faye, an athletic post player from Texas Tech, in exchange for the back-up point guard from Texas, I will consider that a good trade for Texas. :smile1: Faye may have quite a bit of upside remaining to be developed. I hope Texas gets a good post coach soon (yes, I know the board has a thread for that.)

Taylor Jones is also following an instagram account called “horns news” I’ve been following that account for years and it’s basically everything Texas longhorns sports. A pretty popular account that makes commitment/transfer edits for mostly male sports but I think that follow is pretty significant. Please give me Lauren Fields and Jones and I’ll be happy.

In reviewing Jones stats, she only averages about 20 minutes per game. Pretty good stats for that few minutes. Don’t know if it’s stamina or just OS had more posts that the coach just distributed minutes. Perhaps Faye and Jones combo is a good fit for both…..as brnkj pointed out.

I’ve watched her and I’d say it’s a combination of both. She’s not out of shape but there is a difference between game shape and Vic’s type of game shape. Fouls also impacted her minutes as well but she’s also an elite shot blocker so it’s a blessing and a curse.

I remember in high school at Dallas Christian she was a prolific scorer. Before her injury. Of course private school points may be a little skewed. So shot blocker, rebounder, defense (several PAC 12 recognitions for defense), scorer……that gets in a little foul trouble. I like that and perhaps we get the best in her last 2 years.

One thing that really stood out to me in watching some video, aside from being an aggressive defender at the rim, is that she keeps the ball up high over her head on offensive rebounds, etc.

When I look at Taylor Jones stats from her first 3 seasons at Oregon State, she really did put up some good stats, especially in rebounding. We'll be fortunate to add her to our roster.

I liked the YouTube videos of Taylor Jones. She also has 3 years of consistent stats in the Pac 12: 12 pts and 6-8 rebounds/ game. I think she would be great addition. She may even be a little longer and quicker than Loren.

She is definitely longer and quicker than Lauren, just might not be able to make posts like Ayoka Lee quite as uncomfortable down Low as Lauren does. Still, she is a better all around player, so I will take it!

Multiple players/coaches described her as 6' 4", but plays like she's 6' 6" because of her length. She's definitely what we need and it sounds like Vic is all-in. OSU had crazy height on that roster this year. Two 6' 9" players, one 6' 6" and then their best post player (Taylor) at 6' 4".
