2022 Softball transfers

Scratch that, Texas softball has now unfollowed Coffey. Have no idea what’s going on with that but I guess it was by mistake since Coffey isn’t in the portal as of now.
Very strange. But, Danieca Coffey is still listed as a recent follower of TexasSoftball IG.

WBB just got a huge transfer in! Now we need to hear some good news from Softball. Haley Lee come on down! Or a Haley Dolcini clone!

Julia Cottrill is in the portal from OK ST; Julia's father Jeff had been the hitting coach in Stillwater and has now joined the Missouri Tigers coaching staff in the same role.

Oklahoma state has now lost 5 of their 8 starting position players, every pitcher except Maxwell, and a couple key reserves. Gajeski is going to have a very busy offseason.

Side note that Jeff Cottrill was fired by Kenny G. due to the poor hitting performance of the team. Julia Cottrill had transferred from Florida the year before and it's understandable that she doesn't want to play on a team that fired her dad. The question is will she have to sit out a year at Mizzou.

Unless she is granted a waiver and I do not see the committee doing so if her reason is that her father was fired

strange that he is being hired to be the hitting coach at a school that has had a better offense than Ok St the past few years after being let go

The irony is that he is replacing the hitting coach who was fired for what the HC deemed as a poor hitting year.
[Excluding the COVID year]
Year Mizzou OSU
2022 0.274 0.291
2021 0.320 0.312
2019 0.284 0.285

Don't know her academic classification, but if she is a grad-transfer now, she'll get a waiver.

When her IG bio says Texas A&M #25/Oklahoma Softball #25 I would say it’s a done deal. Some players will sell their soul for a National Championship! Would have really liked to have had her.

There's a softball forum called robocoach, which was founded and operated by OU fans. Essentially, they drive most of the posting on there. They spend a lot of time defending OU from the haters and essentially saying, "If you want OU to quit winning games and recruiting, then work harder"

Big picture when it comes to reputation, recruiting and transfers-in it's like:

Football: Alabama
Softball: OU
Volleyball: UT & Nebraska
WBB: [used to be] Baylor

There's also talk about how the transfers will affect OU future recruits. And then the name calling and poo slinging starts.

I hate Oklahoma but, this is the best transfer haul I’ve ever seen. Haley Lee, Alex Storako, and sanders are the best players in the portal and all have gone to Oklahoma. Still some good players Texas can get but we need to start getting some soon because we aren’t very active in the portal right now.

The thing I've been mulling over is what OU will look like after their Fall Ball. I mean what will new freshmen, existing sophmores and juniors think about their future on the team after realizing that Patty will continue to vacuum up top transfers and recruit over them? Might we be the recipient of an OU Spring transfer?

Remember that of the 4 Oregon transfers that came with Mike I think 2 of them went through Fall ball with the new coach before deciding that wasn't the team for them and joined Texas over winter break.

One last irony is that the picture they sometimes use of Haley Lee is one where she's celebrating (probably a homer) running on the base paths in an Aggie uniform and in the background are a bunch of glum looking OU players in the dugout. That's what got me thinking about how former opponents can suddenly be your teammate after one semester.

Not sure I see the value in this transfer from the portal? She only started 7 games and played in 15 during the LSU 2022 season. Not a big success in my opinion. We have Mya Holmes, Vanessa Quiroga, Ashton Maloney that didn’t get a chance to play much plus 3 stud freshmen fielders coming in. She looks like another Lou Gilbert pick up to me. I felt she was a bust.
The coaching mentality is different now. Bring in the so-so transfers and see who bubbles to the top. If they are not happy they will just jump in the portal next year?

Actually she is a good player. She played with Danieca Coffey (LSU), Sophia Simpson, Mia Scott, and JJ Smith for Texas Bombers. She is a pretty good first basemen and has a great bat. However she plays 1B. So at LSU Beth Torina wasn’t going to let her play there over Georgia Clark. Same with Danieca Coffey. Last year she played 2B and this year she played 3rd base. But her high school and travel ball position was shortstop but guess who plays shortstop at LSU? Taylor Pleasants. So Baylea is a good pick up. Plus she knows Mia and Sophia so it will be good chemistry.

Her addition makes sense to me; we have an opening at 1B now that Smith transferred out. She's left handed, and experienced one season at an SEC school even though she didn't play every game; that's more experience than a true freshman brings

I read up on Braylea Brandon. She definitely received a lot of accolades coming out of High School. Ranked #27 in the nation by extra innings and #32 by FloSoftball. MaxPreps All-American and and Co-National player of the year? She also appeared to be the headliner of LSU’s 2021 recruiting class as well. I hope she comes to Texas and is a big success. Maybe she’ll be a transfer like Bella Dayton who was a great pick up by Mike White last season. Competition is going to be tough from our last 2 recruiting classes. It will come down to who brings the best run production to the team.

This was a good get. The girl can swing it with the best of them. LSU just didn't find a spot for her in the line up for some reason. She should of started every game for that team.

Brianna Cantù found a spot to land! Good luck girl.

Happy for her. You know, the NCAA committee has approved the idea of allowing unlimited player transfers. Yikes! I only mention this because this is Brianna's 2nd transfer and if the rule is enacted she could transfer again and again.

This covid extra year of eligibility has really messed things up. Too many talented players and not enough spots. Then the portal gives players the feeling of "I can go somewhere else" when they're competing against a 6th year senior when in reality there isnt anywhere else. Does anyone know when the extra year will stop being granted?
