2022 Recruiting - Softball

That is a huge get! Watched her play a couple weeks back and is the real deal. I thought we were going after her hard but its hard to get the out of state recruits right now as they still can't get on campus with the coaches.
 
1) Leighann Goode - SS, O'Conner HS - San Antonio. 9/01/20
2) Reese Atwood - C, Tuloso-Midway HS - Corpus Christi. 9/01/20
3) Citlaly Gutierrez - P, Stamford HS - Stamford. 9/02/20
4) Viviana Martinez - SS, Tolleson HS - Tolleson, AZ. 10/29/20
 
Great news on Martinez! It is tough to get the elite players out of Arizona with UofA, ASU, and UCLA all within close proximity.

When did she decommit from Oregon, and verbally commit to Texas? Don't see anything about it on her twitter account (other than her current commitment status). Usually Coach Singleton tweets regarding verbal commitments, but I never saw anything on his twitter regarding Martinez.

She never announced it herself. Flosoftball did it for her. Of course they charge for everything so I didn't read any articles going into detail. Her Twitter just says "texas softball commit" and the article I found was from a while back they just changed the name to Texas. So she probably decommitted a while back and just chose Texas but I am not complaining :hookem:
 
Saw Citlaly pitch a couple weekends back: I'll just say the mitt pops different when she is throwing. A little wild ,but brings some heat for sure.
 
Texas UIL softball playoffs start this weekend. I thought it might be interesting to following our Texas recruits thru the playoffs.
Bi-District round:
Leighann Goode - San Antonio Northside O'Conner Finished 2nd in 6A Region 4 District 29 with a record of 15-3 vs Laredo United who finished third in district 30
Reese Atwood - Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway Finished 2nd in 4A Region 4 District 31 vs Raymondville who finished third in District 32
Citlaly Gutierrez - Stamford won 2A Region 1 District 7 with a record of 23-5 and has a bye in the first round as district 8 did not send a 4th place team representative.
 
Texas UIL softball playoffs:.
Area round:
Leighann Goode - San Antonio Northside O'Conner 2nd in 6A Region 4 District 29 won there District game over Laredo United 2-0. They now play winner District 32 Harlingen South.
Reese Atwood - Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway 2nd in 4A Region 4 District 31 won there game over Raymondville 2-0. They now play Winner District 30 Uvalde.
Citlaly Gutierrez - Stamford winner 2A Region 1 District 7 plays third place District 5 Wink.

“I think I surprised many people and schools when I didn’t take any of the Power 5 offers; I just really want to play softball in the South and have a chance to wake up to palm trees every day!”

But, I don't have that list of offers so.......

But, this late? Something's up. Other than maybe Bartlett told White about a special player she had her eye on when she was HC of Ball State.

Thanks Racer. Maybe she’s the real deal and a hidden gem. I was hoping Mike would start bring in some more highly ranked players. But those players are primarily from the west coast and I don’t see him recruiting that area this recruiting cycle?

Those highly ranked players (especially infield) keep getting vacuumed up by OU.

Well he does have Viviana Martinez who is the #1 SS and top 5 overall player in the 2022 class. She will for sure make an impact the moment she steps on campus and will be the replacement for Janae Jefferson in that leadoff spot.

I do not. I just look at articles and there is a website forum for softball. It contains different threads whether it pertains to ncaa schools, high school rankings, transfer portal, etc... really helpful to keep up with everything involving Texas softball.

Lol yeah I really don't entertain the Texas thread unless it pertains to recruiting. It's really a bunch of OU fans who talk so I don't respond or talk in that thread. I mainly look at threads that involve recruiting and Texas targets. Really the only useful thing in that website.

Sopia Simpson 4th
Mia Scott 7th
Ashton Mahoney 7th
Katie Cimunez 12th
Mya Holmes 24th

2022:
Vivian Martinez 6th
Leighann Goode 12th (if I remember correctly)
Citlay and new recruit I believe were unranked so far.

However baseball and softball rankings are crap shoots. With that said those 2021 recruits are legit. So we are getting some high ranked players.

Every class has been huge improvement from last staff. The next 2 recruiting classes will be amazing. The reality is all recruits are kind of a gambles but not much. There are some hidden gems of there. One of the big differences between us and that group up north is they are loaded with 5 star players who are as good as advertised. We are not...yet. Hookem!

Reese Atwood - Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway 2nd in 4A Region 4 District 31 won there Area round game over Uvalde 2-0. They now play Winner District 29 Devine.
Citlaly Gutierrez - Stamford winner 2A Region 1 District 7 won there Area round game over Wink 2-0. They now play winner District 8 Cisco.

Citlaly Gutierrez - Stamford winner 2A Region 1 District 7 won there Regional Quarterfinal round game over Cisco 2-0. They now play winner District 4 Forsan.
