2022 Recruiting - Football

Scary good.

It is a long time until the early signing period, so I hope he lives up to his commitment.

The downside to this commitment is it adds to the negative recruiting by the Texas Power 5 schools - Texas still would rather have an out if state player than a in-state player of equal ability.

Well. I've heard there's not a lot of film on Maalik. I was honestly hoping for Cade or Quinn.
Bellyaching about the commitment of a 5* prospect? Good grief.

It's true that he hasn't played in a while, but Sark is a developer.

And we likely lost Quinn, which made it easier.

Also cashing in on top California talent is a good habit

Mine is just pointing out how it doesn't help the impression that Texas does care for Texas HS players. Proof is there is one highly ranked uncommitted QB and one who was committed to Texas but not happy with his aOSU commitment. I am just saying Tceh, Baylor, TCU and aggy will spew crap like this out until early signing day. Sark has a big hill to climb to change this.

I understand what you're saying, but your proof is no proof at all. The "uncommitted" QB has been offered but evidently is not in love with UT enough to commit. The one who "was committed" decided he no longer loved UT enough to stay committed. They were both pursued by and had their chances to be Longhorns. Neither chose to do so. I'll take the kid that knows he wants to be a horn, regardless of his zip code.

Behind every silver lining is a dark cloud?

We just got a commitment from one of the best quarterbacks in the country. We should be dancing in the streets, and I am.

And by the way, one of the statues at DKR is for a Heisman winner not from Texas. Then there’s Bijan Robinson...

True that Ewers was committed to UT but that all changed supposedly due to Herman. He then committed to Buckeye and maybe he is now unhappy.

Hindsight, things might have been different if he had been more patient and waited a while to see what Texas was going to do.....! He just may have been a UT commit and Murphy would be elsewhere....so who is to blame???

This may be really interesting! Probably not over!

This kid has loved Tx for over a yr and a half. Even after witnessing the last 2 yrs of tom herman football.
As posted some pages back , he didn't pout after we dropped him like yesterdays news when Ewers committed and then welcomed herman's communication after Ewers de committed.

In regards to negative recruiting, the kids understand the implications of a 5* regardless of where he's from and " negative" recruiting won't work there.
The hoped for scenario is that the out of staters to come translate to on the field success. Such so that we can take anyone we want in Tx.
The only barrier to that is the gaggies because they can always fall back on being in the sec sec.
That's the only thing Sark needs to overcome.
Once we are there then frankly no one will care about bailor, tcu or tech's negative recruiting.
They can have all the 3 and occasional 4 star kids they want.

From Roach --

I’m told Murphy will be pivotal in the recruitment of Mater Dei WR CJ Williams along with elite wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. One other name I heard he’s close with is St. John Bosco OL Earnest Green..

The #2 WR nationally

the #4 WR nationally

The #2 OG nationally

The odds of grabbing these three are better than we can ever imagine.
Greene will be the toughest.

Yep, Ricky says Hello. I also note Malik mentioned the love of football in our state very similar to what Ricky opined back in the day.

Just wait until we get our recruiting team together.

The new recruiting team is taking shape, per IT.

The new Director of Football Operations will be Vanderbilt's Jason Grooms, and he will bring along Taylor Searels (daughter of former Texas OL coach, Stacy Searels) to be Director of On-Campus Recruiting.

Bobby Brown from North Carolina is expected to be Assistant Director of Player Personnel.

Word has it that Evan Stewart came close to committing a week or so ago. I wonder if he revisits those thoughts now that Maalik is in the fold.

If we get Coleman, Williams and Stewart I don't see Winfield staying in the class.

In my estimation Murphy is a great get for Texas at this point in the program. My reasoning is that we don't have the hogs to go toe to toe with a Bama or OSU right now, but with a QB like Murphy who is a threat to kill you with his legs he will keep the defenses a little more honest. If he is coachable enough to let Sark fix his throwing motion he can shorten up his release and make his release much qucker than it currently is.

Let's be honest here, he is 6'5 and has a little bit of muscle on him, it's going to be much easier to keep him in the game than Ewers who looks much more frail.

If we don't take more than 4 receivers I see no reason to not stick with the commitment. It's first come first serve and those who want a spot better come and get it, because being a QB and receiver in a Sark offense is going to be a privilege for the elite.
