2022 Recruiting - Football

No more announcement today….we got a good one, though with LTG.

Time to switch over to the Horns vs. Okie State last 5 minutes to see if we can pull this one out down the stretch.

If we get Campbell (#1 22 guard & # 16 nationally) and if one factors Ewers (National #1 for 21) into “this class,” not 2021, where would that rank us?

To me that would be a better measure.

According to 247 these are the guys we still have a shot to get with 75 to 100% confidence. There are a couple others interested but most likely going elsewhere. Not sure we need or have room for yet another RB, but I guess if he wants to come get him.

OL - Devon Campbell Bowie (Arlington, TX) 5 star
RB - Terrance Gibbs Winter Park (Winter Park, FL) high 4 star
S - Larry Turner-Gooden Bishop Alemany (Mission Hills, CA) 4 star

One down, two to go! :hookem:

If we get campbell we will probably still finish five. We would need another to move up.

I hope safeties are as good as advertized. Safety play last year was the worst I have ever scene. I will never forget one of safeties rolling around on the ground like a mangy mutt when Williams stepped over him for a TD on 3rd or 4th and 1. Not to mention that the same one later flailed around like a school girl on a 50/50 bomb in the same game. What a nightmare.

We've had so many four star secondary players flame out lately I don't get excited about them anymore. Like you I just hope they are better than what we have.

We desperately need a stud WR from the portal. Burden, Evans, Williams, and perhaps Coleman were the only HS recruits that appeared to have immediate impact potential and they are all now in the rear view mirror. We saw last night how much impact not having stud WRs brings. Bama was no where near as potent as they were in the SEC Championship game. You can get away with having a solid WR corp if you have a really strong run game and your QB has all day to throw. We won't have either of those next year against quality defenses without quality portal help on the OL, which doesn't appear to be coming either. If we don't get a stud WR in the portal, Zay will likely be doubled up all next season because defenses will be able to get away with doing it. We have nobody else that will make a DC scheme around them. Whittington is solid, but certainly not uncoverable and he gets hurt every year. Then, there is a huge drop off after him, after the huge drop off to him after Zay. I don't get why they didn't go after Cowans, or bunch of others, frankly.

Agree to that we could use another stud WR but I am optimistic that the running game will be very good this fall. BR is the best in the game and I believe that the OL will be a better unit — perhaps much better — than what we saw last year.

Yeah ...without another stud wide receiver and OL we won't be as good as the Bama team that lost to Georgia last night.

If Worthy can maintain his high level of production,
If Whittington can stay healthy,
If Omeire is as good as advertised,
If Dixon continues to develop,
If one or more of Alexis, Cain or Harrison emerge as a player,
If we find a receiving TE threat,
If they figure out a way to use Keilan Robinson out of the slot,
our passing game might be serviceable.
Yep, I agree, need at least one stud, immediate impact WR from the portal.

If all you say comes true and Sanders is the TE/WR we hope he canbe we may not need portal help so much.
And if we use the TE on a regular basis.

7 Bama players enter the portal this morning. Wonder if Sark is on the Bat Phone reeling in some of these that could fill some gaps?

Alabama had seven players enter the NCAA's transfer portal a day after the team's loss in the College Football Playoff National Championship, including reserve tight end Jahleel Billingsley.

The group of Alabama players appeared in the portal late Tuesday afternoon. Billingsley, a junior from Chicago, had 35 receptions for 543 yards and six touchdowns the past two seasons. He was a preseason All-SEC selection but played behind Cameron Latu at the end of the season. After recording a total of nine receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown in wins over Southern Miss and Florida, Billingsley had seven receptions the rest of the season.

Other Alabama transfer portal entrants included linebacker Drew Sanders, who had 24 tackles, 1 sack, 4 quarterback hurries and 2 pass breakups. Reserve quarterback Paul Tyson, the great-grandson of former Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, also entered the portal, as did offensive lineman Tommy Brown, who started one game this season.

Georgia, which beat Alabama 33-18 in the championship game, had two players enter the portal Tuesday: defensive back Ameer Speed, who started three games and recorded 13 tackles this season, and wide receiver Jaylen Johnson, who had three receptions for 29 yards in 14 games.”
