2022 Coaching Carousel

Perhaps nepotism applies only to parent/child relationships. I don't know. The definition is "favoritism based on kinship," but maybe the state laws allow exceptions.

Recently, Jhasmin Player (former Baylor guard out of the Houston area) accepted the Associate Head Coach position at Oklahoma State; this past season, she was the Assistant Coach at SMU and Kansas before that.

She just started following TexasWBB on Instagram. Might not mean anything; but, found it interesting.

I’ll see if I can find it but she had a great video that went viral about her playing days at BU and her mom calling Mulkey to understand if she could excel at the D1 level or not.

Love how Maryland got her back and did this when some probably thought something negative was up when some players transferred.
Brenda has lost numerous highly regarded recruits over the past several years. In previous years there was Lexi Brown, Slocum, Mikesell, and Staiti just to name a few. She keeps reloading that Maryland roster and always has one of the best teams in the country. Good to see them continue to stand behind her!

It's amazing how much talent has left Maryland, including Shakira Austin, drafted #3 by Mystics, and most recently Angel Reese and Owusu. I would love to get those former players in a room to see what's going on with Brenda Freese and her program that so many talented players quickly leave the program.

Sydney Carter now following Kyndall Hunter and DeYona Gaston on Instagram.
Now that the Moody grand opening is out of the way, let's go ahead and get some coaches officially named and in place for recruiting, especially if there are 2 who are ready to be named. Whatever position Carter accepts, I think she'll be a real asset to the staff and maybe can help us get some momentum going.

Gosh, I completely left Shakira Austin out. I do remember when she left Maryland It was because Brenda wanted her to play pretty much strictly down on the low block, but Austin wanted to develop her game away from the basket as well to get ready for the next level. Looks like she made the right move even if she never got to experience NCAA tournament success. It wouldn't surprise me if Reese is leaving for the same or a similar reason.

I know Vic has his process but several big club events are beginning this weekend and Elena can’t be in Virginia (Boo Williams), Dallas (Lonestar Championship) and Indianapolis (Indy Clash), to name a few, simultaneously.

Somebody’s going to be in North Carolina for the Deep South Classic:

Just saw the tweet below from a girls' HS coach. Double agents? Maybe Vic has a couple of soon-to-be hires recruiting for Texas on other schools' dimes? If the rule is still in effect that allows support staff (Blair & Dom) to go on the road recruiting if you don't have a full coaching staff in place, that would be the biggest upside for the Longhorns - more bodies on the road. If not, I'd say it's doubtful because it seems a bit shady and looks cheap for a program like Texas.

I would just like to say I called this one I know the signs had been there and we couldn’t officially post it until the 10 days was up but I called it. She’s a great get

I like the hire, but Vic needs to come on with the assistant coaching hires. Those are most important right now.

Dom has to be promoted to assistant coach or…Vic has enough pull to get an exemption to state law, Blair becomes an assistant coach then Dom becomes DoBO.

Does anyone follow Dom Dillingham on Instagram? Her account is private. But, I have not seen her active out on social media as far as showing up on anyone else's IG as a folllower, etc.

Part of me thinks that if there were going to be an internal promotion, it would have happened by now.

I follow her and she doesn't post much but she has 'Liked' several Moody Center and player posts just in the past couple of days.
