2021 Season

This isn’t Longhorn related but is a sign of the times we are in:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico's men's and women's basketball teams are temporarily relocating to Texas due to coronavirus restrictions in their home state.

Athletic director Eddie Nunez said this week that the men's program will set up at South Plains College in Lubbock. The women will move to Amarillo and practice at West Texas A&M in nearby Canyon.

Under New Mexico health guidelines, athletic departments currently do not allow games or workouts exceeding five people. Anyone who travels from outside the state also must quarantine for 14 days.
At least they are trying to have a season instead of canceling the entire season m
I can't stop cussing about the whole waiver BS....
:soapbox:
I'm getting so angry and it's absolutely ridiculous at this point!!! We are 4 days away and it seems every player who turned in a waiver has received an answer & waiver besides Ebo!

The season is 3 days away and they better not have waited all this time just to announce the season will be conference only and won't start until January :brickwall:

Hmmm. This says 1pm but LHN has it televised at 2pm. Either one is wrong or the game has a one hour taped delay which would be odd.
Checked my DirecTV guide today and it is listed at 1:00 PM on LHN. Maybe 2:00 was a tentative time that has since been corrected.

UCONN and Utah WBB both suspending team activities after positive COVID tests. UCONN will be pausing for 2 weeks, scrapping/postponing their first 4 games. Also, Iowa State HC Bill Fennelly will be in quarantine for the next 14 days after coming into contact with someone with the virus.

Mine is listed at 2:00 as well so

Yeah bas season is not off to a great start. The sad reality is that things like this will continue to happen across the country. I really hope this vaccine is effective enough to really slow down the virus or at least get in under control because the only other option would be a bubble type situation.

Just posted on Texassports (deleted most of the MBB stuff):

AUSTIN - Longhorn Network, ESPN's 24-hour network devoted to The University of Texas, will air 12 Texas women's basketball games and eight men's games during the 2020-21 basketball season. Highlighting the 20-game slate are 11 Big 12 Conference matchups.

Texas native and two-time National Coach of the Year Vic Schaefer begins his first season with the Texas women and welcomes back a pair of all-Big 12 honorees in Charli Collier and Celeste Taylor. The duo also earned preseason recognition as Collier was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and Taylor earned honorable mention.

So stoked! Can't wait until tomorrow!

On ESPNW yesterday, the panel listed their top 25 players in women's basketball for this year. Smith of Baylor was #7, Joens of Iowa State was #9. Only B12 players on the list. Since Collier was not on the list, perhaps she will come back next year? The list included underclassmen (several freshmen and sophomores) so not really a WNBA list. Collier might be higher on a WNBA list. If she has a really good junior year, which we all hope for, she could shoot up the draft list.

Maybe it's been so long that I forgot but were the players ever included in media availability outside of postgame press conferences?

Vic said Kyra won't be back until next week so looks like Ashley's gonna get thrown into the deep end early.

texassports.com finally shows the game airing on LHN, and the next 3 games after that. Was worried for some reason they may not be televised. Excited to be able to watch the beginning if the Vic era.:bevo:

We for sure need Ebo to get a waiver this season. Collier & Gaston are our only 5's this season. As far as the game goes I'm very impressed with our defense

Something is going on in South Dakota. SDState wins even with Joens getting 36. SD plays South Carolina to only a 10 point loss. Missouri State beats number 13 Maryland. Early season some teams are struggling. Arkansas wins by 6 over Florida Gulf Coast. A&M wins by 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if North Texas plays well tomorrow.

I think they have a very good chance to win.

Princeton (EDIT: Harvard) grad-transfer and former Texas verbal commitment, PG Katie Benzan had 8 triples today as Maryland beat Arkansas. Really wanted her at Texas for her shooting ability.

That score was 96-115. Lol was there any defense being played in this game or were they just watching eachother score the entire time.

Wednesday game against La. Tech should be fun. La. tech won 90-45 against McNeese State. Not sure what that means except they can score. Hope it is a good challenge. Need to be ready for Sunday against aggy.

Mooooooo, despite her 3 point shooting prowess, do you think Benzan would have fit the pressure defensive system of Coach Vic?

I don't know enough about her defense to know how she would have fit it; same with not knowing how'd she'd have fit in with the prior coaching staff. But, the concern with Lambert was her staying healthy; so, that's where I think it would have been so valuable to have Benzan on the roster.

Not sure if Benzan decommitted or if the new staff didn't believe she'd be a good fit. Her wanting to come to Texas had to do with her older brother being a graduate assistant on the Texas men's coaching staff.

Maryland women’s basketball’s two new transfers eager to help their new team retain glory

Benzan decommitted; she said she wanted to play for a strong female role model.

Just watched the media availability with Collier and Schaefer. Collier is so mature. Well thought out, well spoken, she has the potential to be a great coach or announcer some day. Schaefer sends chills listening to him talk about all things his team. Can’t wait until next game tomorrow night at 7 pm. Some of the media availability or post game were simply excruciating awkward and painful this time last year. The players were all on the defensive....as was the coach. Schaefer pointed out Collier didn’t really play her freshman year....but he had no hesitancy in promoting her as potentially one of the greatest players all-time at Texas. What a difference a year makes.
