2021 Coaching Carousel

I agree about reaching out to Wes... he's a great coach! Probably wouldn't have been able to pull him away though.
I’m not saying he would have taken it. I’m saying at least OU could say they are putting an effort into it. Because, as it stands, it doesn’t seem that way.

Agreed. I can see Cori Close not leaving California, but I thought for sure Langley would jump at that OU job. I read on a Rice message board that she's big on academics as well as athletics. Washington is ranked significantly higher than OU in that regard.

Washington is a better job than Oklahoma. You have to be in the PNW to truly understand and appreciate what UW and the PAC 12 have to offer. UW did well!

How? When they don’t have a recruiting base and recruiting in California just got even harder with Arizona on the rise. Oklahoma offers everything Washington does outside of being a great city. But the cost of living is better in Oklahoma. We’ll agree to disagree.

Does it or does it not appear that OU made some serious miscalculations in the hiring process? Thought their job was more attractive than it is to coaches? Not willing to pay enough money to get the level of coach they want? I know we are supposed to hate OU and revel in any sports weakness they may have. But I also think Big 12 WBB needs OU to make a good hire that will restore some luster to the OU program.

Fans on their message board are PISSED OFF over the whole thing.

Strange development at Vandy. A month ago she was told she would be staying:

Vanderbilt fires women's basketball coach Stephanie White, reversing earlier decision
Would've been interesting to see if Vandy would have pursued Tina Langley. She showed she could coach and win at an academically rigorous school (Rice) and the Tennessee/Georgia region is rich in talent. Throw in a cool city, Nashville, to recruit to and sell recruits on being able to compete in the SEC?

I love Nashville. I also wonder if KA is gonna have buyers remorse over taking UTSA.

May not fit with his usual pattern of choosing up and coming coaches as assistants, but I keep thinking of Holly Warlick as a potential replacement for Johnnie Harris

I would think the new hire would be someone proven in developing post players. In fact, I'd bet on it.

I know we played both Drake and OU this season; seems like they run similar offenses, but perhaps that's must my memory.

They sure did take a long time to make this hire; Drake wasn't in the NCAA tourney, but perhaps they played in the WNIT and that held things up a bit.

This isn't The University of Oklahoma we have all loved for many years. Dr Boren is gone. This new guy appears to lack knowledge in what athletics means to OU financially. He seemingly would go after a less successful coach for less money. (Not saying this lady fits that description, just an overall observation from his comments.) My opinion is that OU will be much better off looking for a new President.

And she check's all of the boxes for Oklahoma, much like Coale did. I'm just glad that the Texas staff wasn't impacted .
All of this! Their new coach is a good one indeed, we'll see how that translates in P5.

A friend and I were discussing this situation, and I mentioned that in retrospect OU probably wasn't serious when they hired Sherri who only had high school coaching experience. My friend agreed, and added that they had gotten really lucky that she turned out to be such a great coach.

I am a little surprised by this hire. I was really expecting the land thieves to throw so much money at Adia Barnes that she would leave Arizona. Adia got a bump up to $580k annually after going to the championship game. They paid Sherri Coale over a million!? It will be interesting to see what Baranczyk will be getting paid.
