2021-2022 Season

It appears Ashley is throwing down the gauntlet, drawing a line in the sand saying that the point is “my”position and nobody is going to take it from me. God I love this kid! She is going to be so much fun to watch this year. The whole team will be exciting. Gosh I am so ready for November to get here!
Throwing down the gauntlet much like Jody’s National Championship group. Love it!

Now... If we could JUST get a schedule!
:hookem2:
I’ve made a few attempts at trying to reverse engineer the non conference schedule by checking opponents Texas has played recently (UTSA, UTA, Lamar, LaTech, Louisiana Monroe) because a lot of them have released their non-conference schedules. Haven’t seen the Longhorns on 1 yet.

Kansas State will be playing at South Carolina in the Big 12/SEC challenge. So, that could mean we will play at Miss. State or Kentucky; or, we could all be surprised if our game at Tennessee is deemed part of the challenge.

Since this thread is about this season, here we go.

It is very easy to become giddy with the number of tools Vic has at his disposal this year vs last. True, that is partially influenced by the impatience we all feel at this time of year to get the new season started. But adding to the excitement is Vic's demonstrated history of deploying talent successfully on the court versus just what's on paper.

Which factor will take precedence, especially early in the season against a quality opponent and during the slog through the B12:
  1. a small core of experienced leaders like Jo and Audrey who have actually been there and know what is required to be successful
  2. weaving six brand new players, who will be crucial to this team's success and who collectively bring a level of athleticism we have not seen around here in forever, into a culture that demands blood, sweat and tears beyond anything they have experienced?
Texas lost three key cogs that were instrumental in propelling us to the Elite Eight. As fun as this season will be to watch unfold, next season should really be the advent of Final Four expectations.

With so many new, but critical pieces being molded into this year's team, another Elite Eight appearance would be a satisfying barometer for a successful season. Failing that, a B12 Championship would be an acceptable alternative.

Can Vic surprise me with something even better? Of course, but I have to remind myself that I'm feeling giddy in the wake of Latasha's enrollment.

I really wish we had the schedule to pour over and anticipate matchups etc. AND start planning which games I can attend. I’d even take a list of known non conference teams without finalized dates as a pacifier. Is Tennessee and Stanford our only know non conference teams right now? Remind me when the UCONN series starts.

Finally found Texas on a school’s 2021-2022 schedule: Oklahoma Baptist on November 4th. Don’t ask how many I went through to get that 1.

The addition of Latamore is huge, and to get her over Baylor?! I’m calling at least one victory against them this season…We could be a final four team next year, hell maybe even this year. We made it to the elite half with less than talent we are about to have.

If Ive heard correctly we are moving to the SEC starting 2025? If that’s true, we will get at least one b12 championship by then and immediately compete for SEC title contention. Man, I like Vic Schafer. We are about to witness a new brand of women’s basketball here at Texas.

Wow! I trust that game is in Austin? Is this the level of competition we have to accept to entice teams to play here?

It is in Austin - they play aggy the day before. Every team has at least 1-2 of these games in the noncoference schedule. They allow the head coach to try different combinations and gauge where the team is without much danger of losing.

True. I'm just concerned that unlike past seasons our entire non-conference home schedule will have to be against these cupcakes. Paraphrasing what Vic said, teams do not relish playing against his full-pressure style, especially now that he can trot out a bunch of athletes.

If I'm not mistaken OBU is a NCAA Division II school. If true, that would make the game an exhibition... which pretty much coincides with it being scheduled the first week in November.

If UCONN doesn't have problems scheduling quality opponents for home games I'm sure that Texas won't.

I think we need to take Vic's comments about nobody wanting to come to play his team in Austin with a grain of salt. With road games against Top 25 teams like Stanford, Arizona, and Tennessee on the schedule, I'm sure he was trying to reach agreements with other Top 25 teams to come to Austin in order to have a more attractive home schedule. Perhaps he reached out to Top 25 teams like Louisville, NC State, Kentucky, Georgia, Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, etc. and none were willing to start a new home-and-away series on the road based on their other scheduling commitments.

Could be that he is putting out somewhat of a buffer to explain why the home non-conference schedule is not going to potentially feature (m)any Top 25 teams coming to town to play.

Coach Schaffer and Coach Jackson-Durrett meet almost all the players on there first day of classes. This is how you build championships!

Good stuff, Ellis. Thanks for sharing. No Audrey or Latasha? Possible their schedules do not include Wednesday classes.

Maybe we should come up with an easy way to refer to them, given their names are so similar.

Old NCAA football terminology for separating teams into divisions might assist us.
1-A and 1-AA
