2020 Senate & House

Congressional races were a disaster for the Democrats

Democrats told everyone they were "taking the Senate." They got huge money donations off this pitch from Big Tech, Hollywood, Soros, Wall Street, Unions, big media types and foreigners
$108M to beat Lindsey Graham (I think this was the largest amount ever spent in a Senate race in US history)
$100M to beat Mitch
$69M to Joni Ernst
$24M to beat John Cornyn
Steve Gaines held on in MT
Thom Tillis appears to have won in NC (although the cheating may not be over in that state)

Dems also promised their big money donors they would add seats in the House. They had a long list of Republican incumbent targets. But, in the end, it was the Republicans who completely flipped this narrative on them and added seats, including several women to really turn the knife on the Dems.
Rs knocked off Collin Peterson in MN (Rs been trying to win that seat for 2 decades)
Rs knocked off 2 Dem female incumbents in Miami (Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Donna Shalala)
R Nancy Mace beat Joe Cunningham in South Carolina
Looks like Dem Max Rose lost in Staten Island
Rs also knocked off Dem incumbent females Xochitl Torres Small (NM) and Kendra Horn (OK)
To top it off, the chair of the DCCC, Cheri Bustos, is struggling to hang onto her seat in Ill
All of that will leave Rs with about +10 seats and over 200 seats total in the House, instead of somewhere down in the 180s, which is where Dem leadership told their donors they would leave the Reps.

As you ponder all this, ask yourself if it doesnt make more sense that Republican voters also carried Trump into the White House too?

To your last question, not really. The total ballots for 2018 were about +10MM in favor of Democrats, so even if they lost half their ground, it's still +Dem in a generic sense.

Dems underperformed across the board.
They wasted about a quarter of a BILLION dollars on the races they lost

Sure. I've never been a big believer in how funding shapes elections, though. Some candidates will measure up regardless of how much is spent, and this goes from school board seats all the way up to Congress and the WH. Go read the Freakonomics chapter (a little outdated now... when did Steve Forbes run for President?) or listen to one of their several podcasts about it.

Republicans also had a bunch of down ballot successes

For example, in the New England area alone, both GOP Governors were re-elected.
Susan Collins was re-elected
Reps flipped the New Hampshire state legislature
And Reps are still leading in several upsets in Rhode Island

I think funding can definitely make a difference. Candidate, records, etc may be the most important factor naturally but the grossly out spent candidate on average rarely wins. Certainly all other things equal the spending will matter.

It's your choice to ignore the big picture in this area
Doesnt matter to me

Basically every state legislative Democrat in a conservative leaning rural area lost last night throughout the Midwest. They got killed.

Some more Texas --

Results are still unofficial, but so far, all 5 five of the repeat Dem congressional challengers in Texas lost by bigger margins in 2020 than they did in 2018
Siegel in TX-10
Bell in TX-14
Kulkarni in TX-22
Jones in TX-23
Oliver in TX-25
Again, consistent with the idea R-voters drove this election (including the race for the WH)

Colorado passed a constitutional amendment saying only American citizens can vote in elections 63-37%.

Florida also passed a state constitutional amendment saying only a citizen can vote passed with 79% of the vote

This will hurt the effort by liberal cities in their effort to use the illegal alien vote to control local elections

Sullivan is going to win AK Senate, but media wont call it

Lots of contested house races that may close the gap even more for GOP.

Ok Help me out here. EVERY GOP gov won and one Dem gov got replaced with a GOP.
The GOP House held their seats ( except maybe one) flipped 7 some dem seats
Every GOP Senator held and we picked up 2

So HOW can Trump be losing?

I argued that above and someone objected for some reason

Not every gop senator held

Apparently more House gains for GOP on the way. Not a single Dem flip
To clarify, there were some flips due to redistricting in NC, but equally offset with GOP flips too. Overall I think there will be one true Dem flip.

Joe,

Where is a final count and distribution on house and senate numbers?

Is the senate still 52/48?

Some races are still going
But so far Republicans have picked up 11 seats in the House and maintained their majority in the Senate.
