2020 Recruiting - WBB

A few weeks ago, the DMNews put out awards. I don’t believe anyone ever reported it. So a little late but still relevant is offered for your Monday enjoyment. POY- E Rogers. Newcomer of Year - Sa’Myah Smith(frosh) of DeSoto. First Team...N Green, R McKinney, J Merritt, J Oliver, J Owens, R Thompson. (McKinney is a junior from Argyle and R Thomson Frisco McKinney going to North Texas this fall). Second Team...M Gordon, J Spear, H Turner(only listed ones we are interested in). Third Team...S Andrew, D Kelly. Honorable Mention.....T Jones. There are a LOT of wonderful players in Metromess. Who would have thought an Oregon State is honorable mention, Andrews and Kelly third team, and Texas has zero commitments from this list although a lot had or does have offers. Certainly Texas is not going to be shut out from one of the hot bed of girls basketball in the country(DFW) and state and have to go to NY and Down Under to get recruits ?? Happy to get Taylor and our new Mates but no Texans?
Indeed very concerning...
:(

ESPN’s top recruit in the 2020 class committed to UCONN today. Highly doubt this is an April Fools situation.

I'm a "broken record" but I truly hope that our staff is making the recruitment of Harmoni Turner a priority. Look at the stats, she has an impressive all-round game.

Defensive player of the year......that is a huge honor....and somewhat of a surprise. Highlights all focus on her ball-handing, passing, shooting, etc. Guess they by definition are highlights. And defensive skills are harder to capture. I have not seen her play, but that is my primary goal for this next fall high school season. From watching video, She just has so much flair in her offensive game, it would seem to be a slam dunk she would be a priority for Aston. Now knowing she is recognized for defense even makes her more of a priority. Wish we knew where she was leaning.

On an anxiety filled Saturday night, I am thinking that we are done at the point guard position for 2020. With Chevalier committed, I think it is unlikely that a top point guard like Andrews or Turner or other comes on board. As much as we and Aston want another dynamic point guard that year, it is rare when you see two top players at one position commit the same year. We may get a second tier point guard but I am thinking the Aussie point guard in 2019 and Chevalier in 2020 are it at that position for now. Perhaps we sign a combo guard that thinks of herself as more of a 2 guard but can fill in at the 1 in an emergency might be what happens. I don't think Taylor is that type of combo guard. So I am tempering my hopes for Andrews or Turner. I think that 2021 will see the next true point guard. Unless the Aussie point guard is seen after playing this fall that she isn't an answer at the 1, then I don't see why another top point guard would sign and have to compete with Chevalier. Perhaps I am paranoid.....or simply crazy...……..but that is what I am feeling. Doesn't help to have to watch Baylor tomorrow. Convince me I am wrong, or as a minimum, agree that I am crazy.

I would agree. I just don't think we get Andrews or Turner, but stranger things have happened. While Chevalier looks fairly impressive in some of the videos I have watched, she has fallen out of ESPN Hoopgurlz Top 60 (at one point she was ranked a 3 star at #60). And while she most certainly could develop into a very good player on the collegiate level, I just don't think at this juncture we should consider her a "top prospect".

While I certainly am no Baylor fan, I have to respect, appreciate and take my hat off to what Mulkey has done at that school. I have my doubts as to if they can actually beat Notre Dame. It should be an interesting matchup of old school blue collar physical basketball vs the balance and half court genius of Muffet McGraw. Should be an outstanding game.

Hate to say it but I am feeling Baylor tomorrow. I don’t like any of the final four but “may” watch some. Don’t want either to win but ??

We made Lauren Ware's top 10 list. Anyone have a guess as to what she means "for basketball and volleyball"? Does that mean she plans on playing both sports in college?

Since Lauren is from North Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska are the closest to home. Her other choices will be further away. Hopefully, we'll get a visit.

Ware is a high level player in both sports. A media article in Mid-March said she was unsure which sport she will play in college. Maybe she hopes to play both sports? Lauren Ware making North Dakota a hoops recruiting destination

UConn has early momentum with two commitments in the 2020 class. With Baylor winning the NC, they could land a 2020 recruit in the near future. Same for Notre Dame and Oregon.

Five star players that are still uncommitted include, Haley Van Lith, Sarah Andrews, Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, and Hannah Gusters.

Gusters to Baylor? Kim Mulkey says: "We will get you the ball." Then again, with the recent elite guard commitments to UConn (and a rumor that Evina Westbrook will transfer in), maybe it is time for the remining elite guards for 2020 to begin claiming their spots. The competition among schools for the fewer in number elite posts could be intense!

Edit: Need I mention that I know nothing? Just having fun speculating.

Empress, Theresa Nunn, and Austin Elite Liked this tweet — clues(?)

According to ESPNW today, UCONN has a 2020 commitment to Croatian point guard Nika Muhl. Over 50-60 colleges recruited her. Paige Bueckers, a combo guard, and number one recruit in the country is the other commitment to UCONN right now. Rumors are that next up will be a Polish point guard Anna Mukurat. Looks like they are loading up at guard for a few years and takes them out of the sweepstakes for the remaining point guards for 2020.

I don’t understand why this thread no longer shows up in my feed. I have to search for it to keep up with the 2020 recruits. I’ve signed out and signed back in, and even turned off and restarted the devices. Anyone have an idea?

Charli C and the rest of the girls goin hard after Sarah Andrews on Twitter tonight. Lol. Love it!

Celeste, Joyner and Brianna Taylor involved. Can’t say that I remember this kind of open team effort for a recruit before. Definitely underlines the belief the program has in her.

Sasha Goforth released a final three of Arkansas, Oregon State, and Texas A&M.

Down to three for Fayetteville's Sasha Goforth
This is disappointing Texas did not make her final cut at least. She is a Texas legacy since her Dad is a Texas grad. I took note of her comment in the article on Gary Blair and ATM making her final cut because "he's a really good guy". I'm afraid Coach Aston has lost her appeal as being a top Coach that you just want to go play for because she will win championships.
