2020 Recruiting - WBB

That's putting it mildly. Glad, though, that Ashley and her teammates got a state championship!
This sentence makes my brain hurt:
Sierra Canyon reached the Open Division final after losing to Windward in the sectional final – the team’s lone loss of the season.

Ware sounds like a player who would fit in with Texas. Good post moves but I really liked the blocked shot she had. We have really missed having a skilled shot blocker.

I still don't remember where N Dakota is! Forgot there was such a state, to begin with.

Last I remember, Texas was looking at Natalija. Nice to see CBs in WBB, even if they are just best guesses of those following recruiting.

From wbbblog, a bit on Daje Kelly:
Deja Kelly, 5-8 PG, Duncanville HS (TX): Oregon is expected to be in Duncanville this weekend visiting with Kelly, ranked in the top 25 in the 2020 class. Notre Dame made the trip last week.

While Kelly and Ionescu are different players – Ionescu is 5-foot-11 – and no one will be expected to come in and replace her production, the two are similar enough that Oregon projects Kelly in that role.

“That was the main thing they brought up when they spoke,” she said. “(Ionescu) won’t be there by the time I get there, so I could definitely take that role, because they need another guard to come off the pick-and-roll and make those reads – whether it’s a pass or a shot, just be able to see the whole floor and make the right play.”

Hoping to further build the relationship, Oregon is expected to visit Kelly this weekend.

Not sure who the one Big 12 school not recruiting her is, but the 5-10 Emily Ryan is the 2018 Kansas Gatorade POY and was recently named the2019 Class 1A and All Classes POY in Kansas.
From wbbblog:
Emily Ryan, 5-9 PG, Central Plains HS (Claflin, KS): According to Sports in Kansas, Ryan has offers from nine out of the ten program in the Big 12, as well as several others. She’s ranked in the top 60 in the 2020 class.

Impressive background. I didn't connect her last name with her father having played FB at Texas.

Shay sounds a lot like Celeste. She certainly has to be fast to have set and still be the 200 meter record holder at Westlake.

Great advice from her dad about always giving effort and energy.

Thanks for linking the article, jusme.

I thought the same thing about Shay and Celeste, Babhorn. I think their energy bodes well. #GutFeeling . . . it’s all I’ve got.

More post season honors for Ashley! :hookem2:

A look at the Los Angeles Times’ All-Star girls’ basketball team:...
Ashley Chevalier, Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, 5-7, Jr. Committed to Texas, Chevalier showed hustle, defense and clutch scoring to help the Trailblazers win the Open Division state championship.

And Sierra Canyon HC Alicia Komaki is COY.:hookem2:

Maliyah Johnson has an offer from Texas.

Maliyah is one of the most intriguing players in the 2020 class. Based on her great length but very slight build, she reminds me of LaToya Sanders (Mystics). Anyone who watched Ariel's rookie season probably remembers Sanders playing the 4/5 despite being listed at 6' 3", 170 lbs. She averaged 10.6 ppg-6.2 rpg and racked up more starts last season (25) than she had in the previous 5 seasons combined (7). While not suited to bang down low with centers like Griner/Charles/Fowles, her athleticism made her a great fit for the fast-paced Mystics.

CyFair Elite with a lot of Longhorn offers (1 commit - Shay Holle). A few players I can identify:

Kyndall Hunter
Aaliyah Moore
Jordan Merritt
Maliyah Johnson

Hopefully Shay can find a few minutes to put in a few good words for the Horns.

A few weeks ago, the DMNews put out awards. I don’t believe anyone ever reported it. So a little late but still relevant is offered for your Monday enjoyment. POY- E Rogers. Newcomer of Year - Sa’Myah Smith(frosh) of DeSoto. First Team...N Green, R McKinney, J Merritt, J Oliver, J Owens, R Thompson. (McKinney is a junior from Argyle and R Thomson Frisco McKinney going to North Texas this fall). Second Team...M Gordon, J Spear, H Turner(only listed ones we are interested in). Third Team...S Andrew, D Kelly. Honorable Mention.....T Jones. There are a LOT of wonderful players in Metromess. Who would have thought an Oregon State is honorable mention, Andrews and Kelly third team, and Texas has zero commitments from this list although a lot had or does have offers. Certainly Texas is not going to be shut out from one of the hot bed of girls basketball in the country(DFW) and state and have to go to NY and Down Under to get recruits ?? Happy to get Taylor and our new Mates but no Texans?
