2020 Recruiting - Football

He looks like a throwback combo of Dick Butkis and Ray Nietzsche
He has a bit of the "crazy eyes" look the linebackers you mentioned had when playing. And he looks much older than 16 or 17.
That kid's intensity would fit well with Herman's.

Rivals.com - Three-Point Stance: Sleepers, Texas' big run, five-stars on the bubble

How impressive have Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns been this summer? More impressive than Mack Brown ever was.

Huh? That’s certainly saying something when you consider Brown won a national title, went to another title game and consistently finished in the national top-10 in recruiting every year. However, Herman is doing it in a different way. Brown, who is a great recruiter and is showing that at North Carolina, held early junior days and was able to pick and choose from the top kids in the state, finishing the majority of his classes by June. Herman, meanwhile, is picking up big, meaningful commitments during the summer.

The summer is a very underrated time when it comes to competitive recruiting battles thanks in part to official visits being allowed earlier. More and more kids in Texas have a chance to see other programs before the season starts now, and with Lincoln Riley recruiting so well at Oklahoma and Jimbo Fisher and his recruiting prowess at Texas A&M, things are ultra competitive in the Lone Star State. Throw in Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and others that have come into the state and you have a very popular region for big-time recruiting.

Herman has landed in-state prospects Prince Dorbah, Jerrin Thompson, Princely Umanmielen, Quentin Johnson and Joshua Eaton all since July 4. But what’s even more impressive is Texas reeling in prospects from Florida, Arizona and Utah during this span, led by five star running back Bijan Robinson. Texas is ranked No. 6 in the nation now with a gaudy average star ranking and if the Longhorns continue to recruit at this clip, then Big 12 titles and possibly a national title could be in the cards

Where Herman and staff is absolutely overwhelming every one is on evaluation. Not just athleticism, but also culture fit and character and academic capability.

Other programs are noticing and bird-dogging him and/or resorting to negative recruiting. Ruhle, Day, Satan, Smart and even Riley.

Satan, Smart and Riley are expected and understandable, but Ruhle - talk about throwing bricks in a glasshouse.
Ruhle last year immediately descended on Hookfin and Powell right after they visited Texas and tried to catfish them. He almost had Hookfin drink the Baylor green bear piss but Hookfin pulled out and signed with Texas. No such luck for Powell as I think Ruhle pointed out how deep Texas was (before transfers) in the QB room (athlete Powell's preferred position which previously only Texas would let him try out) compared to poor Baylor who only had little Charlie Brewer. Have not seen where Powell is listed on Baylot's roster yet but did see two other QB listed this summer.

This year he tried to catfish Quentin Johnston away from committing to Texas but the force was too strong.

Previous to Herman scouting these gems (two were lower 3 Stars when Herman recruited them) Baylor had no interaction with them. tOSU had spotted Powell but could not connect/gave up too easily.

Texas wins this year ( Big 12 title ), and negative recruiting will do no good at all. Texas will get err'body Herman wants !! Go 13-0 and play-offs Nick and Dabo will be quaking.

Definitely! These are all losing strategies except Herman's. Most of the other coaches are trying to pad each one's résumé for the next position to which each one hopes to ascend.

Herman will dominate NCAA recruiting within 3 years. He is building his credibility as a player's coach more interested in the life long success of each recruit than just what that recruit can do on the football field for four years under scholarship.

Sounds like Powell is on the first bus out of Waco
I do not know. He is a gifted athlete from Odessa Permian. He might like the cozier confines of Waco. But he was thrilled with the Texas offer which he received before the Baylor offer.

He is #17 on the roster listed as WR/QB. The reality has set in.

Update: Reality can be a ***** and Joe Fan is her Master. Powell is in the transfer portal presumably on a bus out of Waco. Does Herman go after him? I think not as the QB room will be full next year. My call is the Biggest Catfisher out there, Day of tOSU.

But some of our recruiting experts think we backed off. Maybe focused on LVBunkley-Shelton and Smith-Njaba.
Hester sounds like Missouri. We will see

Well he has no interest in OU although OU might be interested in him. One of the things I liked in his film was his linebacker play. He also likes how Texas uses tall receivers. I say Texas takes him. They can work around the other guys with EE and transfers.

Update: It seems there may be a "numbers issue" and UT may have backed off. I think it may be more of a Quentin Johnston issue and who else may be available. Mike Roach has changed his CB to foggy, but no one else has yet.

RB...
Hoff or Evans ?
If we can't flip McClellan from OU we need to get Hoff to go along with Robinson for 2020. We have to get two quality backs..... I've seen Evans twice ( vs Duncanville 2018 and Katy 2019 ). Shows flashes of take it to the house, but 5* #1 rated RBs usually show up for big games...Twice now he has underwhelmed and been shown up by opposing players and even players from his own team. Maybe he had a couple bad games, so gotta give him some slack..but right now I would go hard after Hoff and McClellan. JMHO
Hoff has speed power and ablitiy to wear down defenses like a former Texas back named Foreman. I know Porter didn't pan out like we hoped, but this Katy kid ( Carolina transfer ) just might.

Hoff's family moved to Katy from South Carolina this year.

No comparison with Porter, other than Gary's RBs can read the defense and pickup the blitz.

Hoff is bigger and stronger than Porter

Jaxon Smith-Njaba (6'1" - 188 lbs. WR) is 100% CB to Jawa by 247Sports.

So how many CB are participating? 2. How many of those predict tOSU to win. 1.

So who is this one CB? Bill Kurelic, tOSU Insider and blogger on Bucknuts who is also the "Lead Expert" on the recruit. The other CB is a Notre Dame "Insider" gives it a "Who knows?"

See the pattern here? I think this "commitment" is a little less than solid. More smoke and mirrors by Day and tOSU. Yeah, Jaxon did give them a verbal commit last year, but that is a long time ago in the life of an 18 year old.

Mookie? Ransom? Y'all coming too?

Visitors for LA Tech
Will be more for the game next week

2020
QB Hudson Card, Austin Lake Travis
DE Alfred Collins, Bastrop Cedar Creek
DE Princely Umanmielen, Manor

2021
TE Lake McRee, Austin Lake Travis
OL Jager Burton, Douglass (Lexington, KY)

2022
CB Jaylon Guilbeau, Port Arthur Memorial

IT's take on Collins and the Jager Bomb-
DL Alfred Collins, Bastrop Cedar Creek: It’s interesting that Collins will be on campus for the season opener vs La Tech, then reportedly take an official visit to OU when they host South Dakota State next weekend. La Tech and South Dakota State instead of Houston and LSU is one way to go about it. Maybe there's still a chance he shuts things down soon. Maybe. That could be wishful thinking but that's an odd itinerary.

OL Jager Burton, Frederick Douglass HS (Lexington, KY) - 2021: The four-star junior from SEC country will trip to Austin. At 6-foot-3.5, 284 pounds, and a 77.5’ wingspan, Burton holds 16 offers, including Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Penn State. Even with a fantastic in-state OL group from 2021, Texas is still turning over every rock.
