Something on transfer target Tony Fields who is down to us, WVU and Minn--
... heard some confidence in Austin regarding the conversations Texas is having and the opportunity for immediate playing time. On the Minnesota side, PJ Fleck is an effective recruiter and the Gophers have some of Fields’ high school teammates on the roster. West Virginia is home to Jahmile Addaewho will be part of the defensive leadership following the dismissal of former DC Vic Koenning. A former Arizona and Minnesota assistant, Addae has a strong relationship with Fields and his high school. It’s unclear what Fields’ timeline will be, but he’s set to graduate mid-August so a decision could come in the next two to three weeks.

Jalen Milroe interview with JR Young:
Not detecting any 'Bama stink with him. He sounds pretty bought-in to me. Note he cited McCombs School of Business as a major reason for signing with Texas.

Ooops! Wrong year, but I will leave it here.

Another possible transfer. Shane Simpson played for Towson whose conference just cancelled its season. I think he will be a 6th year player
In 2018, Simpson earned first-team All-American honors. He finished second in all of FCS with 171.5 all-purpose yards per game, totaling 2,058 yards on the season. That same season, the Pennsylvania product was the CAA’s Special Teams Player of the Year and earned three different all-conference honors: first-team at running back, second-team as a kick returner and third-team as a punt returner. Simpson would be eligible to play immediately in 2020 at the FBS level.
We are in his final 2 -- should announce tonight

He can play at the slot too which will help.

As long as he can catch. Remember 2 games where we almost blew it due to muffed punts?

Some quotes from Tony Fields who should probably announce within a week or so

" .... Texas: “When you get that scholarship offer, you can’t turn that down. You have to at least weigh out your options. I love that coaching staff. I love Coach (Tom) Herman and everything talking to them. I have to just keep my relationship with them until I can decide.”

“I don’t want to be just another guy,” Fields said. “I want to be able to stand out. That’s why I’m looking close at things like the d-linemen, the people I work with. For instance, West Virginia has those two Stills brothers that are pretty good. Texas d-linemen are huge. Minnesota’s d-linemen are huge. That’s one of the biggest factors right there, the d-linemen on the team, because without good d-line playing linebacker is pretty hard.

“I’ve never been scared to compete, but I don’t have time to compete in my career right now. It’s time to go. It’s time to go in and have an All-American season, and that’s what I’m ready to do.”

I think we are in a good place with Fields.
We got the beef up front and the LB position is thin plus we have a new DC, who will not be biased as far as starters go.

I don't see Fields beating out Overshown but he is good depth. Perhaps he'll surprise me and become a starter.

From TFB about Hudson Card.
" .... rave reviews. Such high praise that I actually wonder if, God forbid, anything happened to Sam, if Casey Thompson would actually be the back up.
Said he’s “unbelievable. Will be a bigger star than Sam”.
Again, this isn’t come from one or two folks. I’ve heard it from many. With QB it’s hard to project what will happen when the real bullets fly but it’s been a while since I’ve felt the real possibility of QB continuity at Texas. So, if Hudson is as good as they seem to think, then it’ll go a long way it establishing stability at Texas to know that there will be a competent QB ready to take over after Sam’s departure."

But many Dallas-area folks still think JQJ is going to be the man

We will see
