2020 Recruiting - Football

Taye McWilliams RB

Intresting guy: 4:48 in 40, 38.3" vertical, upright runner and strong but also ran track. Could play safety or build into LB. Fair hands. Runs upright like Milton and has some jump cut moves. Can take several defenders with him on a tackle or do a 10 yd. "culture play" on his own Looks very underrated as a low 3 Star looking at last year highlights.

Cool if Herman poaches Ruhle for a change.

If intangibles line up, a positive take.
If those numbers are legit, then that's pretty impressive. I'm usually a bit skeptical when I see a 40 time reported under 4.5, especially on a guy who is not real small and lightweight.

Ii would say he is very lithe yet strong. Pretty sure all times are track times since he has participated.

No video of him tackling, but I do like him with Bijan, Hullaby, Jordan in the RB room. But LB is more lucrative and a longer career in the NFL.

Chop,

While I generally agree with your assessment, and rarely believe 40 times, I have a choir for you shouting

Billy Cannon
joe Don Looney
Norm Bulaich
Ross Montgomery
Edwin Simmons
Rod Choate
Marcus Dupree
Herschel Walker

and the fastest of them all Curtis Dickey

:hookem2:

I think I remember hearing somewhere that Joe Don Looney was a creep, and his mere presence kills the grass. :smile1:

You realize the he came to Texas on a track scholarship and then transferred to OU. Head case? Absolutely, but he only hurt himself.* Tremendous athlete and a great punter.

*The two drunks he threw through the plate glass windows at the 19th Street Toddle House don't count because they were picking on a crippled guy in there.

aggy Perroni think Princely now leans aggy (of course) or Auburn --

"I'm not sure how hard (aggy) will re-engage him with spots at a premium."
Boy, that is the ultimate disrespect. Not Aglet SEC good enough?

Wish this poor kid luck. Got to believe in yourself first, "mentors" last.

Collins is the big fish here, though.

I will call you and raise you a Bo Jackson.

I met Joe Don in Fort Worth after he was out of football. Still young and built like Atlas. He was walking his dog, a giant white dog.

He was as nice as could be. Friendly, polite, and did not "high time" us at all. I wish life would have turned out better for him.

"His concerns over Texas from the beginning were the three-man front they run most of the time. They alleviated those concerns enough over the summer to get a commitment, but they reared up again. He wants a defense that uses bigger ends in a 4-man front. Both Auburn and (aggy) do that. I'm not sure how hard (aggy) will re-engage him with spots at a premium."

This is such a terrible year for defensive linemen and corners. I still have the same rankings from the beginning of the season.

1. Collins is the must have, he is elite and much much better than his rankings.

2. Broughton - He is a 3i DT and I would have him #1 if we would switch to a 4-3 defense.

After than there isn't much to talk about. Princely U-D-Man most years would have been a 2nd tier player, but because things are so thin this year he is the 3rd best dlinemen in this state.

If we switched to the guy that is the 2nd key is Prince Dorbah, he becomes our biggest defensive recruit as he would probably become a WDE and be the guy that racks up the big numbers.

So much for 1000%:

4-star CB Joshua Eaton decommits from Texas

The young are ephemeral. Dust in the wind.
TH is going to own this one. You cant continually have one of the worst defenses in the NCAA and year over year exceed the worst defense in UT and expect defensive kids to want to come here. Again, imagine if we only had a middle of the pack defense. Would we have won either game we lost this year? How about last year?

OU may have won the Natty last year with a good defense as great as their offense was. They may win it this year now that they ditched that 3-3-5 and put a real defense on the field. Texas blew so many chances to win conference crowns with East/West offense, and now the 3-3-5 defense will hold us back.....

Youre right that we have had two good or even great classes in a row. And, in fairness, it has not been a great stretch for in-state DLs since Herman has been in Austin. But there have been a couple gems. After those gems, the fall-off was big, thus missing on those couple players was painful. Our best interior DL, Coburn, was not even in the top 10 in state. And Ojomo was outside the top 50 in state. And I would add T’Vondre Sweat to this list because i think he still might be a beast - I never figured out why the recruiting services did not like him because his film was good.

The two biggest in state Giles whiffs IMO have been --
2017 -- K'Lavon Chaisson (#5 in state and #4 at his position nationally) - Giles #2 worst whiff. I loved this guy and he was an early Texas lean (I think Giles started off on him, then we tried throwing Meeks/Orlando at him). This one hurt. The very next day a/ the Chaisson to LSU announcement, Giles reached for JUCO transfer DL Jamari Chisholm. He also was also responsible for inking DE Rob Cummins in 2017, but not Graham (Mack Brown) or Bimage (Naviar/Orlando).
2018 - Giles missed on Ron Tatum, Bobby Brown (yay) and Chasen Hines but did well with who was there in Coburn and Ojomo. However, Giles needed help to land both players - Coburn with Meekins + Ojomo with Beck. And Beck landed Ossai too, not Giles.
2019 DeMarvin Leal Giles #1 worst whiff obviously. He was a 5-star (#1 or 2 in state). He liked us and we blew a huge early lead to lose him. Guys like him are like unicorns -- in-state 5-star DTs who liked you as a 10-year old. You have to close these guys. We replaced him with the 3-star Sweat (#74 in state per the 247 Comp). He was poorly evaluated by the services, IMO, but that's a pretty big drop off for us. We did land Peter Mpagi this year but again Giles needed help from Meekins.

There have been several others in-state whiffs -- Marvin Wilson (#1 overall in TX and #1 DT nationally), NaNa Osafo-Mensah, Vernon Jackson (went to aggy to be a RB instead), Marcus Stripling, Rodas Johnson (Texas native) + multiple out of state DLs.

In any event, hopefully we can follow Broughton, Dorbah and Van Fillinger with Collins (visits next week). That would be a great haul for anyone.

We were talking about 2017 some time back
Dobbins was part of that class

I know it's just bad timing but this post was right before OU's "real defense" gave up 48 in Manhattan.

Did you watch the game ? KSU got great field position due to turnovers and poor punts, etc...against a very good physical offense. Wait until this KSU team gets a hold of our Horns.
