2020 Recruiting - Football

You know a commit from Ringo would swat a lot of these flies away for awhile.
Just saying Kelee if you’re reading this now is a great time to pull the trigger.

OB says Pouncey told them he is solid and plans on to be an EE.
He wants to get in and have our doctors conclude the treatment his torn labrum

OB says Fillinger told them, "as of right now, I'm locked in."

Meanwhile 2019 Javonne Shepherd has already cleared his locker. He is supposed to be the one who advised 2020 Princely Umanmielen not to commit to Texas.

One thing about Umanmielen and Fillinger and potentially Collins is that Herman keeps saying at his post-game pressers that "stats don't matter for D-linemen" -- this may be true and it may be how he really feels, but I am not sure it helps us recruit them. (so in case he has people reading here, I advise you to stop saying that). On top of that, its probably pretty easy in general to negative recruit our defense at the moment.

RB being recruited by Orlando?

Wait, did not HornFans and BON fire him?
Taye McWilliams RB

Intresting guy: 4:48 in 40, 38.3" vertical, upright runner and strong but also ran track. Could play safety or build into LB. Fair hands. Runs upright like Milton and has some jump cut moves. Can take several defenders with him on a tackle or do a 10 yd. "culture play" on his own Looks very underrated as a low 3 Star looking at last year highlights.

Cool if Herman poaches Ruhle for a change.

If intangibles line up, a positive take.

aggy Perroni think Princely now leans aggy (of course) or Auburn --

"His concerns over Texas from the beginning were the three-man front they run most of the time. They alleviated those concerns enough over the summer to get a commitment, but they reared up again. He wants a defense that uses bigger ends in a 4-man front. Both Auburn and (aggy) do that. I'm not sure how hard (aggy) will re-engage him with spots at a premium."

I am not sure what to say about the Orlando tag for this player. I looked for some LB highlights for him and everything was for RB. But, then again, his LB recruiting has always been confusing. Maybe the tag is just wrong? But he is almost 6'2 and 200+ ....

Herman is merely noting that being a disruptive DL does not get recorded but does in fact alter offensive opponent's offensive games.

Van Fillinger 3 Star rating is an example of how his play is far more valuable than his rating. Tough guys are appreciated on DL and LB by Herman. Also on OL too.

There is no Sensitive Guys' Room at UT.

Losing Shepherd and Princely may be a good thing if they each do not believe he can compete.

So Texas should be an NFL minor league team and not prepare its athletes for real life off the field? Like say Alabama or Clemson or LSU? I would walk away form UT if they made that choice. At Texas, like Herman has said, it is not about the next 3 or 4 years, it is about the next 30 or 40 years of the athlete's life.

Newsflash: Charlie Strong has not been here for the last 3 years.

1) You read too much into my post. The elite players want to go pro. Is it so much to ask if Herman can bridge the learning/experience gap that makes them a first round draft choice? Do you think a top recruit looks at Orlando and thinks, "This guy will coach me up?"
2) My Charlie comment was merely an observation as I realized the coincidence. There is nothing more to it except that Herman is treading on shaky ground in this regard.

McWillians shows plenty of athleticism to play LB if he can tackle. The second coming of Gary Johnson? Maybe half a step slower at 10% larger.

Where is GJ? Always thought he would be a safety in NFL.

1.) At LB, yes. That is his position assignment. I generally think Texas has good talented guys that play well. You think Ossai, Adeoye and Mitchell are failures? Gbenda has no talent?

2.) What "coincidence?" Maybe it is merely a personal perception problem? "Treading on shaky ground?" Weak sauce on your part.

Speculative fiction is no basis for action, let alone crticism.

I don't know what game you're watching but the one I'm watching tells me I'd look elsewhere for coaching if I played defense.

What speculation? KANSAS. We almost lost. That was a measuring stick in the past. A line we should neer cross.

I have to admit I have no idea what you are talking about.

Some updates from Inside Texas

" ......... The sky isn’t falling. Texas is still No. 15, 5-2, and have a straight line to Arlington if they win. They also still have a Top 5-10 level class for 2020. The sun will almost assuredly rise tomorrow.

Alfred Collins. ... Today, we still feel as though the Longhorns are the team to beat. There are whispers of UOVs potentially, but that's hard to see right now. Texas and coach Oscar Giles just have to hold steady.

Ethan Pouncey. .... His older brother, Jordan, is a wide receiver at UT and it looks like little Pouncey is still following big Pouncey. Jordan is happy in Austin from what we’ve heard.

Kelvontay Dixon. .... I believe you could see some movement here as soon as the next few weeks. I don't want to say this is done, but we've dropped enough bread crumbs to spike the board’s insulin levels.

Josh Eaton. ... If he flips to OU soon, don't be shocked. I don't believe Texas will replace him, but they do have contingencies like Pflugerville Connally CB, Baylor commit Jahdae Barron. And let's not forget Kelee Ringo. ...

What about 2021? ... t behind the scenes, it's still gaining steam. UT is still in a great spot for guys like Donovan Jackson and the Brothers Brockermeyer. Another guy that UT appears to be gaining on is five-star CB Tony Grimes .... This is setting up to become genuinely worth following....."

.

He does seem to run angry, which seems like something you might want at LB
I am sure some of these paysite gurus have seen him up close and personal, let's see what they say about it

So you do not know the difference between a W and an L on the record? come back when you learn.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda is not a viable argument in any field.

Please report back. I do not participate in paysite, although I will support HornFans in the future most likely. The tone around here is less hysterical although there are infiltrators.

I think McWilliams is like Owens, Tillman, Lewis et al in that he is a superior athlete with speed for his size. Notice all of them were 3 Stars when first noticed by Texas.

Given the continued slide of our defensive performance, I too wonder how we hold recruits. Herman can say all he wants to deflect but the bottom line is our D is the reason we have lost 2 games and are near the bottom of 120+ D1 programs. What he should do is think what if we were in the top 30 in D, how menacing would it be for opponents to play Texas!!! Man up and get a better DC.
