2020 Presidential Election: let the jockeying commence

one of the joys of visiting this board is seeing the constant displays of what I call the guitar syndrome. If you live inside a guitar you only hear the one tune. I first observed this when I moved from very liberal Austin to very conservative Lubbock some decades ago. All of a sudden the obvious became dubious-----people in Lubbock were certain but not in the same way as the folks in Austin. I gradually became acclimated to Lubbock thinking and while not agreeing with a lot of it I came to understand that just because all of us in Austin were in accord on all matters political did not mean that our certainty would be validated at the polls.

Long removed from both locales, I am blessed with the lack of certainty which automatically arises to thinking people who are not surrounded by amen corners at every turn.

Most of you cannot understand why Biden might pick that thing as his running mate and that his doing so is further evidence of your conclusion that he is demented. May be. Maybe not.

Thanks to Bone Spur's lovely penchant for pizzing off people it may be that all Biden has to do is keep part of his base placated, if not jubilant, and he has the numbers at the polls to prevail in enough battleground states to eke out a victory. And then he can rule by Executive Order just like his two predecessors.

I dono. I am old enough that I no longer feel I am a member of this society--I just don't get the culture or understand a political system that can continuously give us options like the Clintons, W, Obama, Bone Spur or Biden

All I can say is that you guys who call yourselves conservative and applaud a King who rules by executive order with no success in getting the congress mentioned in the constitution to do anything for him except pass a tax bill which any Republican could have done are deceiving yourselves if you think this guy has any kind of consensus or ever has had one. Or that he is now a shoo in for November.

John Connally once said that the reason the press treats elections as horse races is because that is what they most resemble. This one is going to be on a very muddy track and anybody who thinks they can discern what equine figure or its posterior will finish first is fooling themselves.

Horse crap.

Democrats have declared after the 2016 election they would do nothing to help this administration. They along with the media have for 4 years fed the population a narrative that Trump should not be followed and that he and all his followers are Nazis. Even now no matter what position he takes, they will take the opposite. They have gone out of their way to destroy every major city they have controlled. They have gone out of their way to attack and harass this President with false claims of collusion when all along it was Hilary who broke the law with her server.

It's only now when we are seeing the depravity of the DNC and their need for power that people who were once 100% blue are becoming Red. Still even now the media is hiding the truth from the vast majority while calling the true media fake.

Black man murders a 5 year old white boy for no other reason than he is white and zero coverage. If the roles were reversed, you know there would have been riots in every street in America, the media would paint this as more white hate.

But what do we get? Rhetoric, that the boy deserved it because he was white privileged. The blood of that boy and so many others are on the hands of the DNC, the media and the left in general.

To hell with seeing their side, we should be filling the streets with their blood now. This bull crap needs to end, how many more innocent people need to die from this stupidity before we realize the war has already started.

American's need to decide, what kind of country do we want to live in? A country that gives no care to another race simply for the color of their skin, or a country that protects the innocent. I thought we moved past this 52 years ago, but I guess I was wrong, then again, the DNC will never let it go as long as they can rule through hate and fear.

I not only want Trump to win, but we need to punish the DNC, and put and end to that party once and for all. I want a purge of the left starting with their leadership and then every person arrested in these protests who didn't get the justice they deserved. Finally I want everyone of them charged with treason and given the same consideration we gave the Nazis at Nuremberg.

Yep, the post you quoted was full of ****, as usual.

Another one.

By the way, I friggin love English sausage, and I say that with an unblemished record of staunch heterosexuality.

From one heterosexual to another. I prefer the taco to sausage any day.

There are more than 2 candidates. And if I'm a RINO then so be it. I am not ashamed of being a moderate conservative.
There are only 2 candidates that have a chance. Might as well just piss in the wind with anyone else. I wouldn't even waste my time to walk across the street to vote for a 3rd party candidate. It might be the lesser of 2 evils, but one is far far worse than the other and I'll certainly do what I can to keep the US from becoming a Bolshevik Revolution.

AB
In all fairness the GOP did say they would try to stop Obama's agenda that would hurt
America but there is nor a smidgen of equivalency between whst they said and the vitriol spewed by Dems against Trump.
You correctly spelled it out.

So you will take the "lesser of 2 evils" and keep American politics in a 2 party system which CLEARLY isn't working......I'm not sure who the "lesser of 2 evils" is between Trump and Biden....

As someone who claims to be a conservative, I hope you don't really mean that. As my AirBnB host told me last night, "it won't be long before they come and take my house and have those people living with me. I've been a lifelong Democrat, but what has become of it has turned me into a Republican".

I agree the 2 party system isn't working, but other than quitting my job and dedicating 100% of my time to help create something different (which I certainly can't do), the lesser of 2 evils is the only option I have. I'm not even sure I could do anything significant if I did dedicate 100% of my time to something different.

Trump is absolutely the lesser of two evils, for his China policy alone. I will be voting him solely on that one issue. We cannot let Biden win.

SO what your saying is that you will live by the status quo and vote for 1 of the 2 morons instead of taking a stand for change? Just because I consider myself a conservative by no means do I have to tow a Republican line. The Republican party I once knew is no longer in existence and it gets further away each day.

I am well aware the Trump did not sign NAFTA...And I feel he should have backed out of NATO, when Germany and others fought back we should just left....

I "felt the Johnson" in 2016 and took enormous flack here for doing so by most of the people giving you flack now. I also said many of the things you're saying now - not on policy (I'm pro-NATO) but on opposition to Trump. I'm not sure what I'll do this November. However, I grew pretty disillusioned with NeverTrump people, and I don't know if you call yourself one, but you're basically following their mantra.

Two big things disillusioned me. First, they allowed their opposition to Trump to turn into lax treatment of the far Left and willingness to reinforce and endorse clear falsehoods from them. Second, they judged Trump by standards that no one would apply to any other President.

You're sorta doing both here. At least from a policy standpoint, if you're a conservative, you can't seriously claim that Trump and Biden after equivalent. They very clearly are not.

In addition, you're judging Trump for not leaving NATO. Like I mentioned, I disagree with you on the merits of that. However, assuming that your position is the better one for the sake of discussion, to judge Trump for not unilaterally and illegally trying to withdraw from NATO is ludicrous. What other politicians do you judge negatively for NOT breaking the law?

Does that mean you can't make a case to not vote for Trump? No. You could choose not to vote for him, because he doesn't meet your minimum standards. You could vote against him, because you don't want him to toxify the brand of conservatism. Those are serious positions to take and basically why I opposed him in 2016. However, the rationales you're stating here do not hold water. They're very weak.

Kim Ivesen has an intristing take on the selection of Kamala Harris.

Her take:
1. Kamala Harris was the frontrunner for the nomination initially. She was selected by the establishment (Hillary, etc.). Then Tulsi Gabbard took her down in the debate and eliminated the establishment preferred choice.

2. Tried to go with Budajug (spelling wrong, forgive me), but that didn't work.

3. Settled for Joe Biden. He is a long-time establishment person that follows instructions.

4. Harris selected as running mate for at least two reasons. First, Harris is basically a hand puppet of Hilary Clinton. Most likely Biden would not finish his first term. Harris could potentially serve 3 terms by finishing the first term, followed by two more cycles where she is elected. Also, Harris would be able to install previous pro-war hawkish officials who worked for and with Hilary Clinton during her stint at the State Department.

In conclusion, the tandem of Biden-Harris no only enable the Democrat establishment to get their preferred candidate into office, but do it for three terms. At least that is the theory. I think its a plausible theory.

What Mr. D said, but also, if there's something I can do that would be more impactful than writing a letter to my Congressman and throwing it in the trash, I'm all ears.

Second, how is a vote against communism, which will most certainly will result fascism with those controlling the Democratic Party, towing the Republican line?

Who said I was voting Democratic?

Voting for a 3rd party candidate that has zero chance of winning a GE (which spans my entire lifetime and then some) is throwing your vote away

It's like a 3 year old who doesn't get their way. They cry, scream, hold their breath, run in circles.... But they never get their way. Funny how that always plays out

Democrats and Republican do the same thing if their candidate loses. If Trump loses this election I can just see this board blowing up with ppl crying and whining.

I don't feel i'm throwing my vote away one bit. You can't have change by voting the status quo.

I voted for Trump in 2016, but only when he was the only candidate left. I voted for Cruz in the primary and would honestly still prefer him over Trump. While I do not like him as a person, I have a hard time arguing with 99% of what he has done. He has accomplished a lot even with an extremely biased media, a democratic house that actively wants America to fail and lukewarm RINO's with no back bone.

At the end of the day, it is either Trump or Harris. I will go with Trump again.

No kidding, what he has done with constant push back is nothing short of amazing.

How is she a Ho?

she was sexually active before marrying? I can believe that might not be true of some of you guys

she got some political help from somebody she slept with? Gee, that would be a first

did she ever pay a porn star hush money?

hang with Epstein?

say admiring things about murderous dictators?

she did rigorously enforce some draconian drug laws. I like that

I may vote for a successful Democrat if Bone Spur keeps looking for new ways to get into the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual

jeez, we’ve gone from Washington and Jefferson to this. Makes me rethink the wisdom of tossing George III
