2020 Presidential Election: let the jockeying commence

I've been following politics on an almost daily basis since 1991. That entire time I've heard that almost everything a Republican says is a racist dog whistle and that their policy priorities are pretexts for racism. If you have a problem with crime, illegal immigration, taxes, or welfare abuse, those concerns aren't sincere on their own. They are about hostility to black and Latinos, and appeals on those issues are nothing more than appeals to white racial hostility. And of course, Democrats were the party of racial healing and morality on racial issues.

And then we hear Joe Biden make an appeal that is more overtly racial than anything we've ever heard from a Republican presidential candidate. However, the same pillars of righteousness that lecture about dog whistles didn't give two squirts of piss about it just like they don't give two squirts of piss about Tara Reade. This is how you lose credibility on something.

I noticed that Biden "apologized" for his comment. That's encouraging - not because I think Biden is sincere. Overt racial appeals have been a cornerstone of Democratic political strategy for 50 years. Biden obviously doesn't feel bad about it. If he's apologizing, that means that the Party likely has internal polling suggesting that black voters are getting tired of it, and frankly, it's about time. It's pretty offensive to tell someone he has no right to think for himself because of his race and that his race has to define his politics.

I do understand why Democrats have this mentality. They're trying to hold together a coalition of devoutly Christian blacks and God-hating white people, and in recent years, they've catered much more heavily to the latter group. Bashing Christians makes the God-haters feel good and distracts them Democratic fiscal policies they don't like, but it undoubtedly bugs black Christians. They need something to do the reverse - distract blacks from the Christian-bashing that they don't like. Racial appeals play that role. However, it's obviously becoming harder to keep that up. That's why they've had to be more overt about it.

I've said this over and over, but the God haters suddenly are sympathetic when it comes to Catholic illegal aliens and Fundamentalists from the ME. As long as they are useful as political tools then there is no problem diluting the progressive feminist vision of America. And why is there no concern? It's because the progressive feminists will rule the manor as Lord's over a feudal society.

What else could it be? Hypocrisy? Nah... that couldn't be it could it, could it?

This is the best response that Dem’s have right now to Trump’s success as a president. Let me count the ways:
- conservative judges
- regulatory reforms
- prison reform
- tax reform
- NATO spending reforms
- wall construction
- trade deals with China and Mexico
- spotlighting FBI corruption
- EPA reform and pulling out of Paris accord
- Fixing supply chain for PPE
 
It amazes me when Biden says Trump has been a failure. Dems act like there was no poverty or low minimum wage during the Obama administration, that there was no murder in Chicago or anyone else, no racism or anything else for that matter.

Somehow under Trump this country got worse. I really don't know what world they are living in.

I'm willing to allow for some criticism on coronavirus, but you cant blame Trump for all of it. No matter what, this problem is Chinas fault and the entire world has suffered because of it.

The fact is until the virus, the US was doing quite well largely thanks to Trumps policies.

Frankly, MSNBC shouldn't have this policy. What's the point? Is it to preserve some kind of facade of nonpartisanship or objectivity??? That has been out the window for quite a long time. Why try to fake it with this goofy policy? Is Weissman more of a hack than Rachel Maddow or Chris Hayes? I don't think so.

Do you really think they can hide Joe's mental decline enough to get him elected and that there are enough regular people who would vote for him?
I see the stress is speeding up his decline.

Love this post. We have been getting served complete disasters for years but partisans keep insisting their dog doesn't bite. They all suck

Biden was a joke before the onset of senility---the only reason he gets nominated is because the field is full of reds (most Dems don't like them) and the entitled

Trump is a tv geek who large numbers of people think is the take charge guy he played His accomplishments consist of signing a tax bill all republicans liked and nominating SC Justices off Scalia's wish list

I have no problem with the former and am enthusiastic about the latter. But judging him a success is akin to anointing FDR because Hitler went down on his watch. Sort of

The media will downplay it and deem any mention of it to be in poor taste. They'll also extremely friendly to his VP.

Part of the job is to avoid doing stupid ****. Trump hasn’t done anything stupid in what matters.
