2019 Recruiting - Football

Well, the two OL Herman poached from other Big 12 schools late in the process in 2016 both have been solid starters this year (Kerstetter and Cosmi). He had more time and more evaluation for the 2017 Class and three of the four were more highly rated that our current right side starters. Of the four OL redshirting this year … maybe every one of them will play for us as soon as next year. We still need to take more than 2 OL this year, but the cavalry is already mounted to take care of the graduation losses.

I'm much less concerned about graduation losses than I am building depth. That is my biggest concern right now, we will never compete with a Bama or Clemson until we build the kind of depth that lets us plug in the next guy without missing a beat. I think it will take 2 more classes like the last two and we will be there. Frankly, I'm sick of seeing Bama and Clemson, and Oklahoma in the playoffs, I want to see Texas there kicking names and taking ***.

Guaranteed to lose Heard. I think Texas has a lot more spots than people think. They can take up to 28, IMO. We can guess who might leave due to playing time or due to being unexpectedly red shirted (Carter, Buechele, Christmas, Urquidez, etc), and then there are guys who will leave that no one expected — like Hemphill-Mapps last year.

If current commits stick and Texas takes 10 more, something like:

1 RB: Sanders, Cain or someone new
3 WR: Washington, Lewis, Higgins?
2 OL: Coker, Henderson, Juco, etc
2 DL: Warren, Leal/Fatuitele
1 LB: Johnson, Pappoe
1 DB: Catalon

Powell and McCoy are more athletes that could plug in in place of others listed above

i sure hope we don't take 3 additional WRs.

When Coach Sumlin flew up to see Kyler Murray and Kaden Smith at the Allen vs Flower Mound Marcus game, my wife and her friend Angela knew all about it, and they follow college recruiting like I follow Dancing with the Stars.

Visitors for Baylor

2019s
S, Jalen Catalon, Mansfield Legacy
LB, Caleb Johnson, Fullerton College (Fullerton, CA) OV
WR, Kennedy Lewis, Melissa OV
ATH, Peyton Powell, Odessa Permian OV
OL, Javonne Shepherd, Houston North Forest
Anyone know if Shepherd made it? Reports on demeanor?

4-star CB Chris Steele (6'1.5/187) from Calif de-committed from USC
We used to be in the mix with him

More on this one. Probably explains why we dropped out of the mix.
From my perspective, however, a swirl of dark clouds around USC might help push some of the other recruits were are going head-to-head with them in our direction.

While 2019 St. John Bosco HS CB Chris Steele claims USC isn't the perfect fit for him, the Trojans actually parted ways with him because of the high potential for NCAA drama.

Shortly after Steele committed to USC, the Trojan compliance office was approached by multiple parties, including USC247.com, with evidence he took improper benefits. The evidence shows these benefits were funneled from USC recruiting reporters. Scott Schrader of TrojanInsider.com and Ryan Young of TrojanSports.com are the two reporters accused of doing so. Ryan Abraham and Gerard Martinez of USCFootball.com were also said to be approached about providing improper benefits to Steele, but there's no evidence they did.

Commit Jordan Whittington (Cuero) -- the film is at distance, but it lets his game speed show, he outruns everyone on both teams

BC retweeted Brooks' tweet

Brooks is also a very good player (5-star) and has reached out to us, among others. But he also has some not so good rumors swirling around him as well, so we may not, probably dont, have the same level of interest

Attention La Familia McCoy -- Rumors out there that USC boosters are targeting Jack Del Rio as their next coach.

Rumors out there that USC boosters are targeting Jack Del Rio as their next coach

Not to dispute your post, Joe, but this is not a rumor. They are in full blown negotiations, because:

1) They need a coach

2) They need a recruiter

3) They are losing recruits

4) USC has never experienced decommits and is in shock that a kid given the opportunity to play at USC would consider any other school.
